five girls - five jacksons pt.11
hope this'll finally post!!! shout out to norah, vicky, my other mjsitebff tegan and everybody who likes my story! for TatYaNa, my fellow-number-one-german-off-the-wall-mj-fan (love you!!!) for michael joseph jackson (thanks for inspiring me so much :) PART 11 *Friday, 11 am* Stevie: Okay, lets just do that last bit again and make sure you sing those harmonies TOGETHER! This isnâ??t a one-girl show, weâ??re a GROUP, we should sound like one! We were in our living room where we had been going over the songs we were planning on performing for Quincy Jones. Jay and I were sitting at the piano with the others crowded around, snapping their fingers or drumming on the surface of the black instrument in time to the melodies we were playing. It felt just like the â??old daysâ? in Garyâ?¦â?¦back then we had spent almost every afternoon like this â?? just jamming on the piano and singing our hearts out. Weâ??d been at it for two hours and were making good progress. Stevie may have been complaining, but that was just so she could have her word in (as usual ;). In fact I felt REALLY confident about today and I simply couldnâ??t wait to meet Quincy and sing in front of himâ?¦â?¦I had faith in my girls and in myself! I was surprised at Stevie, because sheâ??d appointed Jay and myself as lead singers. However, we wouldnâ??t be singing all our parts on our ownâ?¦â?¦the others would have their own smaller parts to sing as well, since we didnâ??t want Stevie, Pam and Olivia to be mere background singersâ?¦â?¦their voices were too good for that. Still, Jay and I would be doing a lot of the singing. After just three minutes of singing together we had immediately noticed that we didnâ??t really need to practiceâ?¦â?¦we were still so used to doing this together that most of it came back to us naturally. The only reason as to why we were still rehearsing was so we could get used to singing the songs weâ??d picked out. Stevie: Okay, Beth â?? Jayâ?¦â?¦could you just take it from the top once more, so Pam, Liv and I can do the chorus together with you again? Jay: Sure, hit it Beth! â?¦â?¦â?¦â?¦â?¦â?¦ * later on Friday, around 4 pm * I felt my stomach contract slightly as the black conspicuous limousine pulled up in front of Westlake Recording Studios on 8447 Beverly Blvd, West Hollywood. Michaelâ??s hand found mine as he opened the door and helped me out of my seat. We had come in two limos, because the Jackson brothers and us girls wouldnâ??t fit in one together. I gulped, trying not to think about how nervous I was about what lay ahead. Looking up at the tall building that rose up in front of my eyes I shot a sideways glance at my P.Y.T.s. They seemed just as awestruck as I was at this intimidating sight. Olivia moved closer to me grinning nervously. Olivia: (whispering in my ear) So now we finally get to see where the magic happens, huh? Me: (smiling and whispering back) yeah! I hope the same magic will happen for us! Olivia: â??Course it will, keep the faith, sista (winking) Our whispers were cut short by the distinct sound of Tatyanaâ??s voice defined by her soft foreign accent drift over to us. I turned my head and saw the young manager approaching us, beaming smile and all. Tatyana: Excellent! You made it! Jackie: (grinning) Heeeeey! Howâ??s our favorite manager doing today? Tatyana: Couldnâ??t be better now that my favorite group is here (winking) After embracing Tatyana and exchanging small talk she beckoned for us to follow her into the building. We followed her through a couple of doors into a sizable entrance hall with a reception area (complete with bored looking receptionist) at one end and a staircase leading up to further floors at the other. Trudging up the stairs my P.Y.T.s looked around us taking everything in eagerly. This place did not scream celebrity and superstardom, it was just like any other office buildingâ?¦â?¦nothing glamorous or too flashy. Yet one could still sense some magic in the air as important looking people passed by, arms stacked with contracts, folders and record sleevesâ?¦â?¦the odd dude carrying an amplifier or a bass guitar and tired looking background singers. But only when Lionel Richie (!!!) ambled past us smiling amiably at the Jackson brothers and murmuring a casual â??Helloâ? to us girls leaving us completely awestruck, did I realize where we really were! We were in Studio A of Westlake Recording Studios! The place where superstars were recording and producing number one hits that would some day be legends! Olivia: (frantic whisper) BETH!!! That was Lionel Richie! Lionel Richie just said hi to us! I think imma freak out! Jay: (turning round and whispering) I know right! This is so awesome! I canâ??t believe weâ??re actually in one of the most important recording studios in Hollywood! I meanâ?¦â?¦LIONEL RICHIE!!! Michael: (from behind us, giggling) you should get used to this kinda thing! Lionel is a good friend of ours, so youâ??ll be seeing a lot of him! All we could do was simply gawk at Michael in amazement. Tatyana laughed and winked at us. Jermaine: (addressing Tatyana) Sooooâ?¦â?¦â?¦has Tyrese already shown up? To my surprise Tatyana, usually so composed and professional, blushed vigorously at Jermaineâ??s question and averted her eyes nervously. I noticed the Jackson brothers glance at each other grinning knowingly. Tatyana: (still pink) ummmmmmâ?¦â?¦yeah? So? Jermaine: Oh, nothing! Just wanted to know whether we had a sound technician in tha house! To my surprise Marlon and Jackie giggled (yes, GIGGLED) at this and wiggled their eyebrows at Tatyana who was becoming increasingly flustered. I was just wondering why they were acting weird when my thoughts were interrupted by a quiet and calm voice. ???: Michael! Michael: (turning around, face lighting up in) QUINCAAAAAYYY!!!!!!!! I whirled around and there stood none other than the man himself: Quincy Jones! He was a fairly small man with a kind face covered by heavy rimmed but stylish tinted glasses and a small beard. His eyes twinkled with boyish excitement as he embraced Michael, beaming at all of us: http://wordbandit.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/michaelquincy_crop.jpg (just imagine heâ??s wearing the same glasses as in that Thriller interview with Michael and Muscles) Quincy finally let go of Michael and embraced the rest of the Jacksons, then he turned to us and smiled. Quincy: I take it you are the Pretty Young Things Michael is always talking about! Stevie: (blushing) Well, if by pretty young things you really mean us, then yes! My name isâ?¦â?¦(cut off) Quincy: No, no! Let me guess! You must be Stephanie, or should I say Stevie? Andâ?¦â?¦(turning to Olivia and me) you two ladies are the spitting images of her, so you must be Stevieâ??s two sistersâ?¦â?¦Olivia (looking at Liv) aaand Beth (looking at me). Now (turning to Pam and Jay) I think you must be their friends Pam and Janice, or Jay, right? Jay: (smiling shyly) yes, sir! Iâ??m Jay and this is my cousin Pam. Itâ??s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Jones. Quincy: Oh, my dear! Please, do call me Quincy. All this â??sirâ? and â??Mr. Jonesâ? rubbish makes me feel so old (grinning)! So after weâ??d been introduced and had shaken hands with him, Quincy lead the way down the short hallway and into a big lounge beyond which lay the control room of Studio A. The room was quite sizable and measured about 450 square feet. I stared in wonder at the many control panels lining the room asking myself what all these confusing buttons and controllers meant. Right then I noticed a tall muscular man sitting at the other end of the room. He had his back turned, he probably hadnâ??t heard us come in, for he was wearing head phones, adjusting something on one of the control panels. When he turned to shove in a different tape for mixing he noticed us standing behind him and immediately jumped up smiling. He was frightfully good looking in a bulky, muscular kind of way. His head was shaven and he had broad shoulders, a strong jaw line and high cheek bones and eyes that were narrow but beautiful. (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers- news/attach/3/9/8/1/2/tyrese-gibson-in-transformers-2_1265858547.jpg) He came loping over. Jackie: Hey, Tyrese! Howâ??s it going? Tyrese: (grinning) Itâ??s all good! Hey, fellas! Hi Tatyana. I smiled inwardlyâ?¦â?¦so THIS was Tyrese! I saw Tatyana blush furiously as he said her name and smiled at her. Tatyana: H-hey, Ty! Tyrese: (smiling shyly at her â?? Aaaaaw, how sweet! He kinda liked her, too.) Dâ??you still wanna go over some of those tapes with me? You know, the ones you asked me about earlier? Tatyana: (weakly) Uhâ?¦â?¦s-sure! (turning to us) ummmmâ?¦â?¦Quincy? Iâ??ll umm, justâ?¦â?¦ermâ?¦â?¦the tapes! I mean, Tyrese and Iâ?¦â?¦ Quincy: (laughing) Itâ??s okay, T! Iâ??ll take it from here then. You go over whatever youâ??ve gotta go over with Tyrese, weâ??ll be in the sound booth, kay? Tyrese: (looking curiously at us) Oh, are you the ladies who are gonna sing for Quincy? Iâ??ve heard so much about you, Tatyana and I will definitely be listening from in here! Pam turned to Michael shaking her head in disbelief. Pam: (incredulously) Did you tell EVERYBODY in Hollywood about us?? How are we gonna live up to the high expectations?! Tito: Thatâ??s the point! Youâ??re supposed to give your all, remember? (grinning at us) Michael: Exactly! Anywayâ?¦â?¦you always sound amazing â?? even if you DONâ??T give your all! Jay: (mumbling) Hmph! Quincy: Well, weâ??ll see about that, wonâ??t we? Come on, ladies! We followed Quincy into the large sound booth where a piano stood a little to the side. Jackie: Well? Whatchu waiting for? (smiling encouragingly) Stevie nodded at us and Jay and I assumed our position at the piano and the other three gathered around us I saw a single microphone hanging over us and wondered what we would sound like if Quincy actually recorded us! Michael nudged his producer. Michael: Hey, lets go listen from the control roomâ?¦â?¦give the girls some space, huh? Quincy: Okay, sure! I smiled gratefully at Michael. Me: (mouthing) Thankyou! Once everybody was back in the control room we werenâ??t half as nervous and I felt the tension slowly leaving my limbs. Quincyâ??s voice wafted over the intercom giving us the OK to start. I flexed my fingers glancing at Jay, who squeezed my shoulder reassuringly. We slowly started playing the first few keys to Roberta Flackâ??s Killing Me Softly. Together: Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song Me: I heard he sang a good song I heard he had a style Jay: And so I came to see him To listen for a while Jay & Me: And there he was this young boy A stranger to my eyes Pam, Olivia and Stevie: Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song Pam: I felt all flushed with fever Olivia: Embarassed by the crowd Stevie: I felt he found my letters The three of them together: And read each one out loud Jay and me: I prayed that he would finish But he just kept right on All of us: Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song Me: He sang as if he knew me In all my dark despair Jay: And then he looked right through me As if I wasn't there Jay and me: And he just kept on singing Singing clear and strong â?¦â?¦ We carried on until the song came to an end and Jay and I played a little improvised solo to finish it off. I beamed at my P.Y.T.s I thought it had gone REALLY well! We had had perfect timing and our harmonies had been flawless! Quincyâ??s voice over the intercom: Beautiful! Beautiful! That was GREAT, girls! EXCELLENT job!!! Come in here and listen to the magic you just made! We looked at each other surprised. Heâ??d recorded our singing??? Oh god! *in the control room* The Jacksons were jumping up and down with excitement embracing us and Tatyana and Tyrese were grinning from ear to ear. Michael scooped me up in his arms and twirled me around in a circle. Michael: (yelling in my ear) That was AWESOME, Beth! Me: (giggling) Ouch! Put me down! I swear, my eardrums just burst!!! Quincy connected the speakers and turned up the volume. Quincy: Okay, girls! You ready? We nodded nervously and the next thing we knew the room was filled with piano chordsâ?¦â?¦ As I listened I felt my jaw drop! That was US singing? That was MY voice??? It actually soundedâ?¦â?¦good! Jay, Olivia, Pam and Stevie had equal looks of surprise on their faces as they listened attentively. Michael and his brothers couldnâ??t stop giggling at our startled expressions. As the song ended Everybody applauded and whooped. Quincy hugged each one of us tightly and beamed at us. Quincy: Can you give us another? Please? Something fast this time! Iâ??d love to have as much as I can on tape, is that okay? Olivia: (grinning) Sure thing, Quincy! *back in the sound booth* Stevie grinned at us and tapped the microphone. Stevie: Is this on? Quincy: (over intercom) Yup! Stevie: (winking at us) Do you have an instrumental for us? You know, so we can sing over it? Tyrese: (over intercom) â??course! What song were you thinking of? Stevie said the name of the song and I could hear the muffled laughter of the Jacksons as they heard which track we wanted to sing. They gave us the thumbs up, grinning broadly. We jammed on our headphones and the first bars of â??Forever Came Todayâ? started to playâ?¦â?¦â?¦ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHUiMadj55Y okay, i hope you enjoyed this :) don't forget to vote <3 lots of L.O.V.E. - emy -
