RAKE â?? A Michael Jackson Web site operated out of the town of Rake, population 227, has been receiving 1.5 million hits a day since the King of Pop died on June 25. Fans have been pouring out their grief on the siteâ??s message board. â??Iâ??m happy to be there for them,â? said Shari Hemsworth, who began mjsite.com 11 years ago. Hemsworth, 37, grew up in the Twin Cities but has lived in Rake for six years. She works at Rembrandt, formerly Golden Oval Eggs, in nearby Thompson. She has been a Michael Jackson fan since she was 9. â??I discovered him in my cousinâ??s record collection,â? she said. She played â??Got To Be There,â? Jacksonâ??s first solo album from 1972, and â??I was just blown away.â? Over the years Hemsworth has collected Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 vinyl albums and CDs â??that I will never part with,â? including rare items such as a collectorâ??s edition of the â??Dangerousâ? CD, which is in a black case with a fold-out inside that comes up when the case is opened, much like a pop-up book. She also owns many books about Jackson and collects magazines that feature him on the cover. Her Web site includes pictures of Jackson â?? including rare photos from his childhood â?? contributed by other fans, a message board and an auction site where fans can sell or bid on memorabilia. Although the auction portion has never really caught on, the site itself has gotten international recognition. MTV India advertised it in the late 1990s. Hemsworth said she didnâ??t even know that until visitors to her site mentioned they visited the site because they saw it mentioned on TV. Before Jacksonâ??s death on June 25, the site was getting around 1.5 million hits a month. Hemsworth said it is now getting that many hits a day. She said most of the people who came to the site before his death tended to look at the pictures and read personal stories posted by fans. But since Jacksonâ??s death, message board postings have increased tremendously as fans mourn his loss. Hemsworth, who cried when she heard he had died, said she understands how they feel. â??I was totally stunned,â? she said. â??I couldnâ??t believe it for days.â?
