Amber's Heart Part 10
Okay Part 10â?¦ The things that were going through my mind wereâ??Iâ??ve never been bitted by anything else other than a mosquito or a fire ant. Now I felt like Iâ??ve been bitten by a scorpion. I thought poison was going to feel my veins, make them burst then kill me. Michael: Oh shush Amber. None of this is your fault. He kissed my head as I silently whimpered. I think Janet and Pamela just watched with closed comments. He didnâ??t speed, he went the maximum and easily swerved through traffic. We got to the hospital in no time. He carried me in there also with Jan and Pam not too far away. Clerk: How may I help you? Michael: Yes, my girlfriend has been bitten by a crab I think, and we want to make sure sheâ??ll be fine. He said girlfriend! Clerk: Okay, we need you to fill this typical form out. Michael: Please, didnâ??t you just here me, I told you sheâ??s been bitten. What if her toe falls off, weâ??re suing you. Me: Michael, itâ??s not that serious. I inched myself out of his arms and limped on my other foot. Then I took the papers from her. Me: Thank you. I mumbled Clerk: Iâ??ll call someone up for you; just finish that up sweet cakes. Me: Okay. I sat in a leathery seat followed by Michael on one side of me, and Pam and Jan close by. Michael: I didnâ??t know your middle name was Chiyan. I smiled Me: Yeah, itâ??s like Cheyenne or Cheyanne: just spelled differently. Michael: Amber Chiyan Logan-Jackson. Me: Too long Michael. Michael: Amber Chiyan Jackson. I gave him a fake annoy look, then he leaned over and kissed me on the nose. When I finished up, an emergency person had a wheel chair for me. Employee: Hi, Iâ??m Max. Thanks Yolanda. Yolanda: Youâ??re welcome Max. I needed a little help getting in. We didnâ??t bring any of my things in here with me, so I was barefoot. Michael tried carrying me again, but Max said he had it. He pulled the wheel chair up to me and helped me lift from one chair to another. Max: Okay, this is the room youâ??re going to be tended to, Room 309. Me: Thank you. Max: Anytime. The three were still with me. Michael: Jan, Pam, I think once we call Amberâ??s mom, yâ??all can go on home. I know the feeling being in a hospital. Pamela: Dead people are in the basements. Then she and Jan shivered in unison. I instantly got the shivers and grabbed hold of my pillow. Max sat me on the bed and was coming back shortly. Michael: Guys, youâ??re making her nervous. Stop with all of this madness. Janet: Well, get to that phone as soon as possible so we can leave. Pamela: Maybe she doesnâ??t want us to leave her yet. Me: No, itâ??s fine you two. You know how long hospitals can take, so I can stay here until theyâ??re done. Michael: Iâ??ll be back. Janet: Followed by Jan and Pam. She said smiling I was there in the hospital bed, alone. I looked around in the all white. It smelled like stuffy profession. The rest of the hospital smelled like medicine and the rest of the hospital things. Max: Okay, here we go. He came in with a nurse. After she left from taking a little of my blood, Max sat on the edge of my bed smiling. Max: So, how old are you? Me: Sixteen. Why? Max: Oh, Iâ??m nineteen. I gave a quizzical look Max: Yeah, this is a little job I do from time to time, to pay off my college debts. Then he laughed and I laughed Max: So how did you get bitten by a crab? Me: I was just walking in the sand like everyone else. I was barefoot. Max: You know, walking in public places without protection on your little piggies, thisâ??ll continue to happen. Me: I know now. He just grinned a little. Max was Caucasian, with brown hair that stood a little. He was somewhat attractive. Then he took my toe that was soon to be wrapped, and tickled it. I wasnâ??t one-hundred percent comfortable with that; but my guts were giving me away. Me: Please stop Mr. Max. Max: Haha. Me: No, stop. He wouldnâ??t, and I just kept at it when Michael came in. He just stared with his eyes open. Max: (looking embarrassed) Iâ??ll be back with your blood samples. Michael: Yeah. When he stepped out, Michael sat in the chair that was in the room. It was too heavy for him to try and slide it over to my bed. Me: Iâ??m not going to lie. Youâ??re way better looking and better in my league. He just started tickling my toe. It felt like someone made me sniff a whole bag of black pepper. My senses were sensitive, because Iâ??m guessing in the bottom of my feet, are my nervous systems. Michael: Of course, I trust that explanation. Something about this Max guyâ??I donâ??t know. Me: Oh how adorable, Mickey is jealous. Michael: I am not. And this is your first time giving me a nickname. Smiling Me: I know. We stayed in silence then I could faintly remember crying in my sleep. Pain was rushing up and down my toe. I think in my whole leg because it seemed no circulation was going through it. ?: Yes Maâ??am. Mom: Will she need anything more? ?: No, she just need to use this ointment on her foot â??till a week from now. The pain seems a lot greater for now. So she should stay off of it. Twenty-four hours should do. She needs to stay here for two more hours, she hasnâ??t eaten anything yet. Mom: Okay, thank you Maâ??am. Nurse: Youâ??re welcome Ms. Jenkins. Then I heard the clink of heels and nothing else. I opened one eye and I saw Michael staring at me intently. I wasnâ??t in my dusty bathing suit and big sized tee anymore. I was changed into the little dress hospitals provide. I opened my other eye and squirmed a little. Michael: (getting up and resting his hand on my forehead) hey look whoâ??s up. Me: Hi Michael. Michael: Hey Amber. He bent down and kissed me in the mouth. Wow, so much for waking up! Then he got on the other side of me. Michael: I hated seeing you so hopeless Amber. Iâ??m not sure if you remembered crying. Me: A little, in my sleep. I did. He kissed me again Michael: First, I had the poopies. Now this. We laughed Me: Yeah, I guess so. What a pair, donâ??tâ??cha think? Michael: Yep. I ended up having a ham sandwich on thick wheat bread. I usually eat white. The lemonade was too sour. I made a horrid face and choked. Michael had to hit me on the back a couple of times. Michael: Take it slow Amber. Donâ??t choke it down in one big gulp. Me: (recovering) fine, you try some. Michael: Fine. So he did. I could tell he had the same problems I had, but was able to gulp it down like a man (rofl). Me: Seems you have it down pact. Michael: Itâ??s called being tough. Letâ??s just say hospital food isnâ??t always the best. If Iâ??m not mistaken, I think I fell asleep again. Michael never left my side. When I scooted down more and went for his shoulder, he just held me tightly. Michael kissed my forehead and that made me fall asleep with a smile. Mama came around an hour and a half later. Iâ??m not too sure if she was fine with Michael being next to me, because when he left the room, she gave me a stern look. Mom: Amber donâ??t move. Iâ??m gonna sit on the edge of this bed. Gulp Me: Ma, before you say somethingâ?? Mom: Amber, shush Hon. I know Michael seems to be a nice guy. He called me five times. A dollar twenty-five was spent on you. Unless he called from the desk. I think I like this Michael. Just be careful Honey. Me: Iâ??m getting older Mama. The older I get, the more serious Iâ??ll get. Mom: I know Honey, thatâ??s what worries me the most. She squeezed my hand and gave me a weak smile. Mom: Yeah, I know that. Thatâ??s why with being older and more serious, having more common sense is also essential. Me: Soâ?¦? Mom: I donâ??t mind you seeing Michael; just donâ??t get too over your league. Me: Okay. I left soon after, with the stinky ointment on both of my feet actually so my other toes wouldnâ??t become contagious. I thought I would wear a cast but I didnâ??t even have that, cheapskates! For some odd reason, I decided to wear this yellow cotton dress with shrubby sleeves and some slides. Michael: You look beautiful Amber. He looked so innocent and gorgeous. I reached up to kiss him. Me: Thank you Michael. Janet and Pamela helped out a teacher post some things on the wall, so as I was entering the cafeteria, I had no one to join me. While I was in the line, I spotted Michael talking to some football players. He compared to them, they could easily break him into two. He was smiling and came over to me. Michael: Come on Amber, I want you to meet some football jocks. Me: Wait, Iâ??m hungry. But I was pulled away from the line. He led me to five football players. Michael: These pipsqueaks are: Todd McLain, Lloyd Perry, Yankcee (Kevin) Zing, Hunter Woods, and Daniel Dung. Todd and Yanckee are Caucasian. I could tell Yankcee was from Alabama or Texas. He had yellowish-blondish hair. Hunter was Puerto-Rican, Daniel was African-American. Lloyd (like the singer lol, the actual one. Heâ??s cute too!) appeared to be Native-American, East Indian, and African-American (like Chilli from TLC, they have the same complexion.) He had his hair plaited in a thick braid. Me: Hi. I said shyly. Michael: Jan and Pam are not going to eat with us today, so do you wanna eat with us? Me: Sure. I thought for once, me and Michael was going to eat alone. I can cross that out now. I wasnâ??t sure what the football players were doing, but they got in front of the line. I didnâ??t like that, but it seemed everyone else didnâ??t mind. I told Michael I would go to the end of the line. Michael: Why do that? Me: Itâ??s just not right. Michael: Theyâ??re nice people so people donâ??t really mind. Me: Okay. I said suspiciously. When we got our trays, we sat at the back of the cafeteria. I was squished in between Michael and Lloyd. Lloyd: You must be the new girl, Amber Logan. Me: Yeah (swallowing a piece of lettuce) thatâ??s me. Hunter: So how do you like it? Me: California always seems to be so pleasant to visit, so itâ??s magnificent to actually live here now. Hunter: Well Iâ??m from here. Daniel: Me too. Yankcee: Iâ??m from Alabama. Todd: Iâ??m from Texas. Michael: Indiana. Me: Georgia. Lloyd: Here. Me: Georgia. I said shyly. I think Lloyd was subtly looking at me. once we finished eating, Michael went to talk to a teacher, the other football players left to go to their lockers, so me and Lloyd was left alone. Lloyd: You think you and Michael are going to last? Me: I hope so, I really like him. Lloyd: Why? Me: If you were in my shoes, you should know why. Lloyd: (laughed) I think Iâ??m going to like you Amber. Me: (I felt like I was swallowing a brick. I smiled and walked away. Then I remembered he took P.E. with me. Yeah, now I remember. All of those jocks gathered together. I never talked to any of them because you know how cocky boys are. They talk about girls behind their backs so I wanted no part of it.) I was looking down at the ground when Michael got into step with me. He could detect something was wrong. Michael: What is it Amber? Me: Huh? I looked up. Michael: What do you mean â??huh?â??, whatâ??s the matter. Me: Oh nothing Baby. I kissed him lightly on the lips and went to my next class without him. Like?
