Tough Love Part 95; Part 2
**I know things havenâ??t been pertaining 100% with Lyric and Michael like it has in the past. But since this story revolves around both of them, their lives, and how they will live it, things have to be complex, interesting, and a story arc. I didnâ??t want things to be too simple because I feel this story is has more to it than that. **But the true craziness/relationship between them hasnâ??t even gotten started yet. Thatâ??s what 1979 is for :). It wonâ??t be good if the story is rushed, so I ask you as readers to please hang in there with me and be surprised by whatever is put in the story that was unexpected because there are a lot of moments like that because itâ??s really that way in real life. -Aariyan. â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ Chapter 95; Part 2 Christmas Day, 1978 What was standing in-front of me was Mindless Behavior. M.J.â??s friends that I had met at that party last month. They had a present in each hand and they were smiling in a way that there was no doubt in my mind this was already planned. But on that same token, I was wondering WHY would they bring presents to me? Iâ??ve only met them once beforeâ?¦.How donâ??t they know Iâ??m not a brat or something? â??Lyric, M.J.â??s friends were so generous that they INSISTED to drop off some presents for you.â? I looked at each guyâ??s hand as they stood with a present in their hands and their quiet smiles. â??I can tell,â? I say as I begin to smile harder. All of a sudden I began to get shy. I donâ??t like all this attention on me. â??Thank you guys,â? I say as I go up to greet them. After I hugged Prodigy, he handed me my present. Roc Royal did the same. Then Ray Ray was last. â??On another token, weâ??d like to perform a song for you.â? Prodigy says. â??Okay.â? We back up out of their way as Ray Ray plug up the radio. â??This first one is called â??Christmas With My Girlâ??.â? â??Okay,â? I say again. Then I look at M.J. because I thought he was going to perform it with them. â??But I feel bad. I didnâ??t get yâ??all anything for Christmas.â? â??We know. You werenâ??t expecting it so it isnâ??t your fault,â? Prodigy explains. The music starts with Prodigy saying â??Aye, come here. Let me talk to you for a minute. Heh, itâ??s Prodigy. Ray!â? Then Ray Ray starts: â??Your presence is the only present that I really wanted (Uh) Itâ??s priceless Whatchu got on it? (Uh) Cominâ?? over? I got something gorgeous (Gorgeous) Iâ??ve been saving up so I could afford it I kinda over did it, but I got Mistletoe wishes Cocoa goddess, marshmallow kisses Only thing been on my mind since Thanksgiving Is getting your permission, are you with it?â? Ray Ray had a cool demeanor while he first started, but it was when he said â??Iâ??ve been saving up so I could afford itâ?, he came up to me and teasingly touched my nose and smoothly moved back into his performance. My eyes finally left him because Prodigy started singing again. Then it was when Prodigy mentions the mistletoe when he really gets one out. I thought about Michael and started laughing to myself. That made him smile briefly as he kept on. Then Roc had his solo in the middle of the song. He acted like he was buttoning up my sweater when he said that part. Then he briefly hugged me when he says â??Look, itâ??s everybody already think we go together. Thatâ??s what Iâ??ma tell â??em. Ight!â? When they finished, I clapped and we teasingly asked for an encore. â??We werenâ??t prepared for another song,â? Ray Ray reveals. â??Man hush up!â? Prod says as he opens up the radio and look at the CD curiously. â??Oh I know,â? he whispers to Roc. He nudges Ray Ray and they huddle up real quick. When Prodigy starts the song, I look at M.J. I remember this song because I remember the first time I was upset with him for raising his voice at me, he sanged this song to me as he was going to basketball practice and I was working with Nick for the magic show. But this time, Prodigy is singing up until the second verse because Ray Ray does that part. Unlike Prod, Ray Ray takes it upon himself to hold onto my hands as he says â??Wish I could meet your mom to show her that Iâ??m decent Wish that I could tell you that â??I love youâ?? Girl I mean it I doâ? But when he says, â??What Iâ??m saying is that girl I gotta Future!â? he really plays that part of the begging â??boyfriendâ? because he drops to his knees as the rest of us clap for his commitment to his singing part in this song. Everyone got a chance to say something in the bridge of the song. But Ray Ray picks up the last part of the bridge again. Once again we clapped. Then the boys suddenly huddle up again. It was about two or three minutes of pure silence and the rest of us started looking around at each other in confusion. The boys never prove that they were going to do something else although I could see Ray Ray and Prodigy was seriously communicating with each other with their eyes. Then Ray Ray calmly starts another song and THAT music starts to play. They started off with: â??Ray: Yo Roc? Roc: Hey what up Ray? Ray: She wonâ??t even talk to meâ?¦ (Missing you) Roc: Just give her some time. Ray: But I didnâ??t even do anything wrongâ?¦â? Then Ray Ray continues. Though weâ??ve never communicated like he said, he made his part believable again as the fake frustration was on his face. When they got to the chorus, he was a little more embracive. But I DO gotta give the boy credit..he basically kept my attention the whole time as he sang this truthful ballad to me. And the other boys kept up as well as they made noises with their mouths to imitate the music. But I think it melted Mrs. Leviâ??s, KiKiâ??s, and my heart when Ray Ray presses his hands together like heâ??s praying and say, â??Iâ??m sorry Alaricâ?. We just sit there for a moment. I think the rest of us were surprised by their performance but more importantly, Ray Rayâ??s interpretation of the song and his delivery of it. They begin to stare at us as well with obvious confusion. I was the first to clap for them, and then the others followed. Thatâ??s when their smiles appeared again. I went to hug each of them. First it was Prodigy again, then Roc Royal. Then as I hugged Ray Ray, I noticed his hug was firmer than the first time. When I went to quickly look at him, he was smiling like he was when we clapped for him, but I was smart enough to know that was a disguise. I just let it be a bygone and innocently winked at him for delivering such a commit-ful performance to the rest of us. â??Why youâ??re in that cast?â? Ray Ray pointed at it. â??Oh itâ??s a long story,â? I try to shake my embarrassment off. But M.J. tells them for me. After M.J. finishes, Ray Ray asks for a Sharpie. â??For what, son?â? â??To sign her cast Mr. Levi.â? Ray Ray signs the back of my cast and the Prod and Roc Royal does next. â??You guys want something to drink or something? It may be California, but I know yâ??all wouldnâ??t mind something like some hot chocolate or something.â? Says Mrs. Levi. â??Sureâ?¦but Lyric has to open her presents first.â? I look up and see Ray Ray was amused by that idea since heâ??s the one that suggested it! â??I know but shouldnâ??t we open up presents last? I thought they always went last,â? I chirp in. â??Right,â? she says as an afterthought. After we follow her in the kitchen, Mrs. Levi says, â??I actually fixed us some egg nog as well.â? â??Sounds yummy,â? say Ray Ray. After everyone gets a cup, we actually donâ??t sit down at the table. Everyone except for M.J.â??s parents just stood on the edges of the kitchen as we caught up with each other. I was laughing with Roc Royal because of the jokes he was making. Then I started talking with Prodigy. But what stood out is that he revealed something he thought I had already known. â??And could you tell Danielle Iâ??ve been trying to call her? You know how shy she gets and after we went to the movies, sheâ??s been getting cold feet I think, but I know sheâ??s been thinking about me like Iâ??ve been thinking about her.â? After the first part of his second sentence, I wore a confused expression. But I say â??Ohhh,â? as I quickly piece together what heâ??s just said. â??Iâ??ll tell her,â? I say with a smile. Then he smiles back. â??Now here we go with presents time!â? Ray Ray says. â??I wonder why heâ??s so happy about it,â? I tell Prodigy. â??Probably because he didnâ??t show us what he got like the rest of us!â? Prod says as his voice gradually gets louder so he could use his words as a double meaning for Ray Ray to hear. But Ray Ray ignores him. Everyone sit around the Leviâ??s coffee table while I open my present from Roc Royal first. â??Wow, thank you for the pen and hat, Roc.â? â??No problem.â? Then I get to Prodigyâ??s. â??Wait, wait. But I want M.J. to open his up first,â? Prod says through laughter. â??Okay,â? I agree with him. â??Iâ??m sorry.â? â??No itâ??s okay.â? I say again as M.J. gets his present from Prod. When he opens it, what we see is a Hungry Hungry Hippo box staring back at us. As Prodigy is already cracking up, Roc Royal, Ray Ray, and I are starting to giggle. It turns out the boys always get each other silly gifts before they hand over the real stuff. Then to top it off, what could be better than getting M.J. a Hungry Hungry Hippo game that just came out this year? When I opened my present from Prodigy, I got a stylish scarf that had shades of brown in it. And he also got me a small bottle of perfume. â??Thank you too Prodigy,â? I say as I hugged him next. â??Now itâ??s your turn,â? I say as my hands slap my thighs. â??Okay,â? Ray Ray grabs his present and hands it to me. When I open it, Iâ??m astounded by the beautiful, huge snow globe, but immediately confused by the goggles that were in my hands. â??Man you actually bought that snow globe? That thing was expensive!â? Prodigy whispers to Ray Ray. â??I told her I over did it,â? he said as he referred to their Christmas song. â??The snow globe is beautiful! But the gogglesâ?¦?â? â??I got those because I wear â??em all the time,â? in fact he wa wearing some red ones right now, â??and the guys always tease me about it so I decided to get a pair for someone else this time and I got them for you.â? The goggles were purple. â??My favorite color,â? he smiles. â??But thereâ??s one more present.â? I look up again. â??Can I go in that closet that I asked about?â? Ray Ray asks Mrs. Levi. â??Sure dear. Go ahead.â? So he does and when he walks over to us again, Ray Ray has puzzled me once more. What he had in his hands was something under a black trashcan bag. I thought it could be a portrait but no way. He takes the bag off and there was a portrait of me staring right back at me. Well actually no because my eyes were closed as I was holding a microphone in my hand and the portrait insinuated I was singing something. The painting had me from my shoulders and on up. â??You said you wanted to be an entertainer right?â? I was so lost in the detailing of the painting, but I look up at Ray Ray. â??Yes.â? â??Yeah, I remember Jim Lange saying that.â? â??But how did you find out I liked snow globes?â? He just smiles. â??I kiss but donâ??t tell.â? â??Yeah, how man did you figure that out? I never told you!â? I start to hear that irritative voice rise up in M.J. again. I attempt to calm him. â??No itâ??s fine.â? â??My art teacher had us making portraits and I got an A+ on mine. Then afterwards I had to paint over it because she wrote on my art,â? he smiled again. â??Here you go,â? after I sat it by me, I gave Ray Ray a firmer hug than I gave the rest because I felt he put more in his gift giving. â??Thank you,â? I smile. â??No problem.â? Up until they left, M.J. stayed closer to my side I noticed. â??Yâ??all know yâ??all are welcomed to stay.â? â??Yes maâ??am Mrs. Levi but do you know what my mom would do if she didnâ??t know where I was at?â? â??Me and your mom know each other. She wouldnâ??t mind if I just picked up the phone and told her yâ??all was over here, Ray Ray.â? Then he laughs. â??Iâ??d love to stay over but I got relatives at the house and we were eating dinner together.â? â??Okay thatâ??s fine.â? Then she looks at Prodigy and Roc Royal. â??Same for me,â? Prod says. â??Similar scenario,â? added in Roc. â??Okay.â? â??We can take a cab so donâ??t worry about it Ms. D,â? says Ray Ray. â??Well yâ??all be careful. But Iâ??m going to call yâ??all one so yâ??all wonâ??t have to wait outside on some corner.â? â??Okay,â? they agree. M.J. had went on ahead and told them bye because he went to the bathroom, so that just left me with the rest of his family and the group. This also meant I felt I could tell them bye in a lesser â??intimidatingâ? environment. We waved them bye on the porch and I hugged them before they left again. But it was after the family walked in the house that I stayed there to make sure that they left safely, when Ray Ray turned around before walking up to the porch again. â??I hope you enjoy your presents.â? I just stand there a moment because Iâ??m surprised heâ??d even walk back to me just to say that. Thatâ??s when I pull him in a hug again. Probably because I was in a good mood. â??I will,â? I whisper before I kiss him on the cheek out of generosity. He just grins from ear-to-ear before he gives me a quick wave and get in the taxi. Then as the cab drives off, the boys wave at me while I wave back. â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ â?¢ Michael will be in the next part. & in the story, I decided to have Orlando Jones as M.J.'s dad.
