Part 4. - Nicole XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX Chapter 4: Happy New Years Michael walked in the party feeling like he was missing something without Allison's hand in his. He had taken Allison back to her house so that Steve could pick her up only a few hours ago and already found himself missing her. "I was wondering when you were going to get here!" Diana walked towards Michael through the crowd of people swiftly and kissed his cheek. "Sorry I'm late. I'd give you an excuse, but I don't have one." He said jokingly. Diana laughed and brushed off his apology with a pat on the shoulder; "Don't worry about it." They continued into the party, Diana stopping to greet certain people and purposely avoiding others. Once they were on the other side of the room where the chatter was quieted down a bit, Michael cleared his throat. "I hope you don't mind that I invited Allison." He said in an almost apologetic tone. Diana smiled; "I don't mind at all... Where is she?" Michael swept the room quickly before turning back to Diana. "They must not be here yet." Diana gave a glance around the room and pointed; "Looks like they just got here." Michael couldn't help but smile knowing that Allison was here, but felt it quickly fade as he remembered that she wasn't alone. "Hey Michael!" Allison exclaimed excitedly as she got closer. He gave her a smile; "Hey Ally." Allison broke away from her date and quickly wrapped her arms around Michael's waist for a short hug. "Oh my God, I haven't seen you in like... three hours." She said jokingly. Michael laughed; "I know, it's been so long." Suddenly Allison remembered who she came here with and quickly returned to her now uncomfortable looking, date's side. "Michael this is Steven, Steven, Michael." Michael unwillingly shook his hand and forced a smile; "We've met before." Allison gave Diana a small hug and thanked her for allowing her to come before standing next to Steve once again. She looked around for a second; it wasn't exactly a huge party, but in no way would it be considered a small party either. "Michael, I want you to meet someone." Diana said with a smile. Michael looked down at her; "Who?" She took his hand; "Over here." Michael and Diana disappeared through a group of people, leaving Allison and Steve alone. "So, we could dance if you wanted to." Steve said nonchalantly. There were only a few people actually dancing, and it didn't even look right that they were. This was more of a talking party than a dancing one, Allison decided. "Um, I'm good right now actually. There's a bar over there though." After they were both sitting at the bar with a drink, Steve turned to Allison. "You didn't tell me that you were friends with Michael Jackson." Allison shrugged; "Didn't think it was that big of a deal." She could see where some people were coming from with the whole freaking out over Michael thing, but to her, he was just her friend... her best friend actually. "He's a pretty big deal, I'm a fan." Steve said with a smile. Oh please don't ramble on about Michael. Allison thought. Fortunately, Steve caught on that he wasn't exactly getting a positive reaction from Allison with this topic and dropped it almost immediately. "So, had you ever met Diana before?" He asked, only veering slightly off of the Michael subject. "Yep, several times actually." Steve nodded and took a drink of whatever brown alcohol that was in his glass. "Now you have to tell me some celebrities that you have met." Allison said with a smile. He chuckled; "Ummm... let me think here. Well one time I met... No, that was... Ah! Got one, not too long ago I met Michael Jackson and Diana Ross." He said jokingly. Allison laughed; "Was it just recently?" She asked with an eyebrow raised. He continued laughing and finished the rest of his drink as Allison did the same. "You want one more? It's on me." Steve asked, nodding in the direction of the large wall of alcohol behind him. "I'm good." She said with a nod. Allison didn't exactly think that this was the type of party that you just got drunk at. "Oh come on." He urged. She shook her head; "Nope, but you go right ahead." "Fine, but you should dance with me." Allison looked over her shoulder and noticed that the small group of people that were dancing earlier had increased in size quite a bit, the room looking more like a dance floor than a living area. She sighed and turned back to Steve; "Fine" He smiled and took her hand, leading her out into the center of the several people that were dancing before twirling her around a few times to the fast-paced song. "You're energetic." She said once they were face to face again. He just smiled and twirled her again. Michael stood near the dancing people, not really wanting to become involved in the dancing, but enjoying the music nonetheless. Diana was still talking to someone in the other room and Michael decided to take advantage of this time by looking for Allison. He nonchalantly scanned the room a couple of times before he noticed her in the middle of the â??dance floor', Steve's arms wrapped around her waist as the song slowed. He felt himself getting angrier the longer that he watched the two of them and had to look away. What is wrong with me? He thought. This was Allison, his best friend, not his girlfriend. He had nothing to be jealous of if she wasn't his in the first place. Suddenly the music stopped and everyone's attention was called to an indoor balcony of sorts, where a man in a tuxedo was tapping his glass of champagne and smiling. "Well it's ten minutes until the New Year, and I just wanted to say thank you our hostess, Diana. This has been a beautiful party and I hope you do the same thing next year." Michael felt an arm loop through his and looked down to see Diana watching the man talk. "And I hope you all have an amazing New Year." He nodded and walked away as everyone clapped and watched the clock as it slowly ticked down the last few minutes of the year. Everyone made small talk for a couple of minutes before someone pointed to the clock; "Ten seconds left!" Everyone began counting it down. Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. Everyone simultaneously yelled â??happy new year' and began hugging the people they had come to the party with, or just random people. Michael hugged Diana and told her happy New Year before looking once again for Allison. He physically felt his stomach drop when he seen her... kissing Steve.
