Tough Love Part 30
Liked the last part? Well, letâ??s get started with this 1! Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. Chapter 30 The Confrontation Donovan has basically been ice cold to me since Wednesday. I donâ??t blame him though. Well not ALL the way. But you just canâ??t say things to that to a girl in front of a group of guys. Then the locker room didnâ??t make it no better! If he passed me in the hall, I could tell he was stiff. Even if his arms were swinging, they looked like they barely were once he got closer to me. He barely raised his hand in class, and when he was called up to the board once to explain something to the class that only he and our teacher knew, he looked directly at me with unreadable eyes for two defined seconds. Itâ??s not my fault that I CANâ??T make him AND Michael happy at the SAME time! I sorta had an opportunity at lunch when he hopped down to my far right at the lunch table. He was on the opposite side while talking to some of my friends, so I was able to see his face. He looked over at me out the corner of his eye, and rolled them. Even if he wasnâ??t obviously doing it to me, I knew it was directed to me. â??What will you be doing this weekend, Donovan?â? I heard my friend Ana ask him. â??Aww, shooting some guns with my bro hopefully.â? After an awkward silence, he started laughing. â??My brother is a cop, so when we go to the shooting rink, itâ??s legal.â? â??Are you under age?â? â??Why care? A lot of us do things that are wrong and weâ??re too young.â? I saw one of the guys give him a â??guy hugâ?. â??But I might go fishing also. You know California is ALWAYS sunny, so I can do that.â? â??Okay.â? She said. â??He done snapped.â? Patricia whispered. We started laughing. â??It SHOULDNâ??T be directed to me.â? When the surrounding people looked over at me, I said, â??Well, his brother REALLY is a copâ?¦from what Iâ??ve heard.â? Thursday was reasonably sunny, but today, Friday, it seemed darker because of periodic small rain showers. And I had to go to the Jacksons estate tomorrow. I guess if YOUR shy, twenty-year-old son finally braved up to move out the house once again, and you find out that a â??sexyâ? sixteen-year-old live under that same roof, you would want to know whatâ??s up also. But Clarence is ALWAYS watching us. I speculate that he lets us wrestle around like brother-and-sister, but with NO incest going around. â??How has your week been?â? I asked Clarence as I was putting the fish nuggets through its batter. â??Good, I just hope that one of my colleagues would spend more time with his wife. Sheâ??s pregnant, yâ??know.â? â??Oh, his first child!â? â??No,â? he said. I looked over at him. â??No?â? â??She was raped by her ex-boyfriend, and Navara put his you-know-what in JAIL! They decided to keep the baby, but heâ??s been distant from her since. I wish they would spend more time together.â? â??He must be going to work with you tomorrow?â? â??It barely NEVER fails! He is.â? â??Why donâ??t you go fishing or something?â? â??Iâ??m going in Sunday after church. Wanna tag along?â? â??Wait, I think the last time you said something like that, Michael threw me a secret party!â? â??That I know of, thereâ??s no special parties for you right now, so donâ??t worry.â? â??Okay.â? There was real thunder as the three of us watched TV as we ate our dinner on the couch together. At first, I was gonna sit in the middle, but then I decided to sit to the left of him to shake things up. Luckily he got the hint and sat in the middle. As we watched the dramatic film, I would breath in and out sometimes from my nerves. I felt something bump into my foot, then I snuck a peek at the couch. I saw his hand on my foot, so I snaked my hand into his. Just like the next morning at breakfast when I found out Michael would be staying with us, he did a sneaky thing and held my hand. When my dad got up to put his plate up, he asked if he could take ours. Coordinately, we let the hands go, and handed our PLASTIC (yes, plastic again!) plates to him. When I was sure he was out the room, I leaned on the couch and looked over at Michael. He was smiling too. Michael never told me what time he planned to go to his folks, so when I awoke nineteen minutes before nine the next morning, I grabbed some chips and a soda pop. I turned on the TV, and was flipping through the channels. I came to an episode of Soul Train, and just about wanted to jump out of my skin! It was an episode that Michael was on by himself, I believe and he performs â??Whatever You Got, I Wantâ?. Though I just missed the song, I got to see one of my favorite parts: the interview! I saw how he would sort of look away and back away from Donâ??s microphone. Sadly a commercial came on, but then Michael was back, and he had to answer questions for the kids in the crowd. I saw how both times, this girl got her own question in. Don saw that, and when he brought attention to it, I saw Michael had a real genuine smile. Thatâ??s when I was happy, once again, that I was beginning to see that smile more often. Not to say thatâ??s things ARENâ??T awkward, I just think that we have a way of bugging each other, but as soon as one of us REALLY ignore the other, one of us gets itchy about it. He was about to perform â??If I Donâ??t Love You This Wayâ? when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around, nearly about to scream, when Michael put his finger over his lips. He shook his head with wide eyes. Then he plopped his way onto the couch, and I sat by him. â??So I see youâ??re having a Michael mania this morning.â? â??And I see youâ??re just obsessed.â? I said, referring to myself. â??But I always liked seeing you in this interview.â? â??Why?â? â??Because itâ??s evident that youâ??re shy.â? â??Yeah,â? he scratched under his nose, â??I hate doing interviews and such.â? â??Why?â? â??Lyric, Iâ??m totally shy like you said. Itâ??s a one-on-one thing like you said, and it IS true.â? â??So if you donâ??t like interviews, then you donâ??t like talking to GIRLS?â? â??No, I wouldnâ??t say that. I like â??em â??cause they sure are a looker! I just donâ??t like nobody throwing their ways at me. I mean gosh, be a lady.â? â??Michael, are you keep referring to me?â? â??Why do you say that? My every comment about a girl doing wrong isnâ??t directed to you.â? After that, I really didnâ??t have a response. I just kept looking at him helplessly while he looked back at me. Though it is wrong, I was sitting beside him with my back pressed on his chest. â??Everything I say ainâ??t directed to you.â? He whispered. Michael helped me make breakfast, and we decided to make it mainly for my father. I saw how he cracked the eggs and put the bacon in the microwave for me. â??How do you do that?â? I pointed to the bacon as he was about to cook it. â??Put it in the microwave?â? â??No, silly; how do you be around all this meat whenâ?¦â? â??When Iâ??m supposed to be a vegetarian? Lyric, Iâ??ve had meat before in my life, too. I know I donâ??t supposed to eat it, but my mother isnâ??t standing here with me, so Iâ??m fine.â? â??But your faith and all?â? â??Sometimes I donâ??t wanna think about â??faithâ?? because people put labels on it. Sometimes I just wanna live my life.â? â??Well excuse ME then!â? I said as I swerved my neck while smiling. He only laughed a little. â??Take this up to your pops, maiden!â? he said as we finished. I got to the stairs, and I said in a sultry, but whiney voice, â??Help me, Captain!â? Then I skipped my way up stairs. He only laughed and shook his head. I didnâ??t bother about knocking on the door of my fatherâ??s room. I just slid the door open even more, and I plopped on his bed with the tray. He slowly opened his eyes and rubbed them. â??Whatâ??s this for?â? â??For being the best father in the world!â? â??What do you want?â? â??To leave you in silence.â? I had to go, or he might be asking for the salt next. I didnâ??t think to bring it up with me. I went back to sleep after finishing up my chips from this morning, because Michael said we would be heading out at about noon. Though that wouldnâ??t NECESSARILY give me enough time for both, I crawled into my bed again. When I did get up again, I felt that I was shaken out of my nap. It was 11:09. I sat up, yawned with my arms sprang out from me, and saw that the bathroom was empty, so I took my chance and got ready in it. The thing that probably took the most time was my hair, of course, but I was capable of getting it right the first time around. I stepped out into my room, and saw that it was 12:15. I had gotten my things packed in a bag. Including perfume and deodorant. I was walking down the stairs, when I saw my dad seating on the arm of the sofa that was closest to the door heading outside. Michael was standing by it. I could tell he was anxious. â??So, honey, who did you choose for your date?â? I heard him ask again. I remembered that there was food in the kitchen, so I looked in the refrigerator like I was really searching for something. â??Sir?â? I asked. â??Who are you taking to the ball?â? My dad asked again. Now he followed me into the kitchen. After I closed the door to the fridge, I walked back into the living room. â??I thought you said I could tell you when I was ready.â? â??But I think I know, so take a gamble on your â??ole man.â? He said as he sat back on the couch. â??Lyric, you ready?â? Michael asked in a somewhat nervous tone. â??Yeah, I am.â? I said as I turned toward him. He was unlocking the door. â??No, tell me, Lyric.â? My dad got up and reached for my arm. I heard the door open behind me. â??WHO are you taking?â? I breathed in real quick, and said nearly out of breath. â??Michael.â? I saw his eyes get bigger, then he breathed in, in shock. He already had on his uniform, just not his top part on, so he was in his white tee. I was able to back away as he grip got weaker. â?? Come on,â? I heard Michael say through a whisper. I turned to him with big eyes, and we jetted out there. I looked up again at my father as Michael was unlocking the doors. His expression never really changed. Only now, his eyes were squinty. I only got in the car once I heard Michael open and close his door. As he backed out the drive way, I watched as my dad shook his head in a disbelieving way. I felt bad for hurting him like that, but I would have to forget about it for now because Michael had pulled out on the road, and the sun was shining because itâ??s supposed to be a non-cloudy day today. Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. What did ya think? Things should be getting INTERESTING soon. Vote up!! Also, this is the link to the Soul Train interview I was talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUAHR8T-tnA *I hope it always work! ~Aariyan.
