Tough Love Part 17; Part 3
Today I decided to type because this date is important to the story in a sense. Today is Halle Berryâ??s birthday. SHE is Lyric Swan in the story. I tried avoiding that at first because at first, that seemed so typical, but Lyric kept growing as a person in my mind, so I decided to choose Halle for now at least. Plus she is beautiful to this day, so I barely had any other choice. Now that you know, please keep reading on. -Aariyan %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Chapter 17; Part 3 â??Heâ??s Just an Old Friendâ? When I first saw Foster, I was excited. Then after a few seconds had settled in, I was worried. The last time I saw and talked to Foster, we werenâ??t on great terms. â??What are you staring at?â? Janet asked. â??Come on, youâ??ll see.â? I grabbed her arm, and we skated towards the basketball court. One of the boys threw the ball at Foster. He caught it, dribbled the ball, and threw it back at the boy. Then they checked it and started playing. â??Whatâ??s this?â? Janet asked. â??I, I think I know them.â? â??How?â? Foster was siking a guy out on the court. When he glanced over at us, thatâ??s when I told Jan. â??Thatâ??s Foster.â? â??Foster who?â? I didnâ??t say anything because he looked back at us, and lost the trace of the ball. After the guys that were on his team fussed at him, Foster tried doing better. He got even worse. By the end of the game, I heard the guys say that Fosterâ??s team lost 38-17. I know he is better than that, so he seeing me must have taken him by surprise very much. As the boys started walking away, half of them grumbling while the others were giving high-fives, I tried skating away with Janet. I knew if I needed to see Foster, I could get the number through Katie some way. I tried tugging Janet, but she wouldnâ??t budge. â??Whatâ??s up?â? I asked. â??A guy looks like heâ??s running towards us.â? Well, I knew who the â??guyâ? was. Janet wouldnâ??t let me leave without turning around. So I did. For the first time in a couple of years, I saw Foster up-close again. He smiled his gorgeous smile again. Thatâ??s when I saw his two front teeth. I always loved how they were never a hundred percent perfect. Now that I think about it, that was something which made him a little self-conscious whenever he would be around me. Thatâ??s when I remembered about my short hair. Out of habit, I touched it and felt unenthusiastic about it; or even shy. The last time he saw me, my hair was longer. I didnâ??t have it cut prior to that time. We stared for a few more seconds, until he evidently let out his breath. â??Wow Lyric! Two years already?â? â??Ye-yeah.â? I basically whispered. His voice changed its tone. I donâ??t know why Iâ??d thought his voice would still sound like a young boyâ??s voice should. Now itâ??s a tad-bit lower. I must say I miss the old Fosterâ??s voice. Foster started speaking after those awkward seconds of silence. â??I almost didnâ??t know it was you!â? â??Yeah.â? That was all I could offer to say. â??Youâ??re nearly taller than me! And your hair is short!â? â??I know Foster.â? â??But you look beautiful.â? He grabbed my hands after he said that. I must say a shock or something went through me. My heart started to beat harder. I felt squirmy down there. And we started staring in each otherâ??s eyes. â??Aww, thanks.â? I said. I couldnâ??t help giggling a little. I donâ??t always have the best luck with guys, but I couldnâ??t help doing what any girl do. Meaning I grew bashful all of a sudden. â??My true pleasure, Lyric.â? I started looking a little uncomfortable, so he slipped his fingers away from mine. â??So, what are you doing back here?â? â??What, you didnâ??t want me back?â? I didnâ??t mean to say just that, so I quickly added on â??Here?â? â??No, I NEED you back. And Iâ??m siked youâ??re here. But really, what you doing back here?â? â??Well, I moved back.â? â??You and your mom?â? â??No. Just me.â? â??Youâ??re with your dad?â? â??Yeah, Iâ??m staying with him.â? â??Oh.â? He said, and then nodded. â??Yeah. What could I say, daddyâ??s girl?â? I said and shrugged. I looked to my left. Janet had her arms crossed while watching us intently. â??Hey, this is my friend, Janet Jackson.â? â??Hey. So youâ??re one of the Jacksons.â? Foster said as he shook her hand. â??Yeah. And youâ??re a southern version of us.â? â??Jan!â? I hissed. â??Yeah, but my brother, Edmund, provided the voice for Marlon on the Jackson 5 show.â? â??So?â? â??Lyric,â? Foster said as he grabbed my arm and walked a few steps forward. â??I gotta go soon, but could I see you again.â? â??Where?â? â??Umâ?¦as the sun sets. In a remarkable area.â? â??Speak English to me, Foster.â? â??Downtown. Letâ??s meet at the Watts Station.â? â??Why there? Thatâ??s downtown L.A.â? â??Remember, thatâ??s where I stay?â? â??Oh, yeah. But why do I need to go there?â? â??Because I want to give you a whole new tour of the city. We also need to reconnect.â? â??Only as friends. Enough guys have already ruffled my feathers. I donâ??t need you to be another. Me seeing you again is suppose to make me happy. Make us happy.â? â??Well, could I just borrow you this upcoming Saturday?â? â??Iâ??ll think about it, Foster.â? â??There are no guarantees youâ??ll find my number in the phone book.â? It seemed like this was a now or never situation, so I took him up on his offer. â??What time?â? â??How about 2:25 p.m.?â? â??Why 2:25 p.m.?â? â??I donâ??t know.â? â??Are you sure youâ??re really gonna show up Foster?â? â??Of course, Lyric.â? â??But do they even use that railroad anymore?â? â??They probably still use the railroad, but not the station.â? â??How can you be sure?â? â??Iâ??ve lived here for the past four years that you were gone.â? He said jokingly. â??Iâ??ll show up though. Believe me, Lyric.â? â??Okay, okay Foster.â? He wrapped his arms around me, and hugged me tight. Before he let me go, he kissed me on the cheek. â??See you then.â? He said, then winked. â??Bye Foster.â? I said with a smile, and waved as he walked backwards. When one of the boys called his name, he waved one last time, and turned away. â??Donâ??t tell me you like him.â? I heard Janet say. â??Oh, I donâ??t.â? I said as I looked at her. â??Heâ??s just an old friend.â? â??Oh God, how many times have I heard THAT?â? â??Come on, Jan.â? I said laughing. â??Letâ??s go. I said an hour.â? â??Okay.â? As I followed Janet back to her house, I noticed she picked up speed a little, so I had to fight harder to keep up with her. Itâ??s a miracle I didnâ??t fall. The most I did was stumble a little. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% I KNOW. NOT the most fun part. I know for a fact that the next part should be more interesting. Now all I gotta do is make the plot come to life! Vote up! --Love Aariyan
