Michael Jackson--Long Live The King
â??Remember the Timeâ? you â??Got to be Thereâ?? There in front of your television when the Jackson 5 first grabbed the attention of the nation on "The Ed Sullivan Show" singing a medley that included â??ABCâ? and â??The Love You Saveâ?? Ahhh yeah! They were â??Badâ?! Not in a â??Dangerousâ? way â?¦ well, at least not for us. Some folk recognized the familyâ??s potential and lo and behold â?¦ The Osmonds showed up. An all-white Mormon family (does it get any whiter?) that was extremely talented and soundedâ?¦ just like The Jackson 5! The Osmonds and The Jacksons seemed to get along famously, but at that time society was still too vested in pitting Black against White. Not long before, The Beatles came over the pond and folk went crazy! And rightfully so â?¦ their music was world changing, too; thatâ??s why Michael bought it! But this was our time! We were in a land at a time when all Black folk felt that â??They Donâ??t Care About Usâ?. It didnâ??t matter whether you were â??Black or White,â? â??Billie Jeanâ? King or Bobby Riggs, a â??Tabloid Junkieâ? or a â??Stranger in Moscow,â? you danced whenever a J5 â??Jamâ? came on â?¦ even if there was â??Blood on the Dance Floorâ?! You just couldnâ??t â??Beat Itâ?! Before things were off the chain they were "Off The Wall"! Health scares began to arise. With AIDS coming on the scene, the last thing you wanted to see on the dance floor was blood. The gay community wrongly bore the brunt of the blame, humiliation and violence at that time. Being quiet was no longer the answer â?¦ they couldn't â??Keep It In The Closetâ? any longer. So they began to â??Screamâ? to be recognized, heard and respected. As time moved on, so did the Jackson family. Motownâ??s Jackson 5 became The Jacksons of Epic and added Randy. That â??P.Y.T.â? Janet graduated from having a crush on J.J. as Penny on Good Times to having a crush on Willis as Charlene on Diff'rent Strokes. Jermaine tried to hang on with Motown, but broke up with Berry Gordyâ??s daughter. As Jackie dated Paula, LaToya donned her headband and Rebbie had two hits in one with â??Centipedeâ? â?¦ her first and her last. Through all of this, Michael, who had to be a man as a child, grasped for childhood as a man. Ahhh, but he was such a â??Thrillerâ?! Amid all accusations, â??This Time Aroundâ? it was all about Mike, the fame and the â??Moneyâ?. He forced us all to â??Come Togetherâ? through his music in an effort to â??Heal the Worldâ?. He even told folk in the most remote third world countries, â??You Are Not Aloneâ?. â??Looking Through the Windowsâ? of my life, I recognize there was never a time when there was no Michael Jackson. From the time my mother took me to see the Jackson 5 at the Civic Center (now the Mariner Bank Arena) in Baltimore, Maryland in 1972, until yesterday â?¦his voice and those infectious rhythms still course through my veins as I am sure they do yoursâ?¦ In all of us there is always some bad mixed in with the good. As it is for you and me, so it is for Mike ... itâ??s â??Human Natureâ?. But now, â??(S)heâ??s Out Of My Lifeâ?. He spent his childhood creating the soundtrack for our childhood and beyond. He never stopped. And for that, Michael, I love, thank and applaud you. â??I Want You Backâ? and I would love to â??Rock With Youâ? for many more years, but it is not to be. I choose not to be depressed about the fact that you are gone but rather to rejoice that God decided to allow you to visit for a whileâ?¦ besides â?¦ and I donâ??t â??Wanna be Startinâ?? Somethinâ??â?... but I think you really checked out some years ago. But now you can rest. So, when I look at the â??Man In The Mirrorâ? and think about your music and â??The Way You Make Me Feelâ? I will remember you as the â??Smooth Criminal,â? who stole our hearts, sang and danced your way into our lives and stayed there. Thank you and thank God for you. Rest now, Michael â?¦ just rest. *Dimplez* Sum parts in this story may hav been offensive, but I didnt mean it in the way u mite hav took it.
