Tough Love Part 6
Got my computer back! Have to thank my cousin, Neressa! You pretty much say it the way itâ??s spelled, lol. Okay, here it goes. And since it is the 16th of May, and I actually forgot the date today, happy birthday Jan! Sheâ??s going to be in the story of course, but watching the showâ??s marathon today, I got an idea of Lyric impersonating some of her lines, lol. Another sleepless nightâ??throughout most of it, my eyes was just closed. Twice, I went to my window, opened it, and breathe in the cool night air. I looked at the stars, and thought, gosh; yâ??all just donâ??t know how lucky yâ??all are. When it comes to stars, and Astronomy, it can become very sacred to me. Anyone admire you guys. Yâ??all are light years away, but I can always feel your presence. When one of you died away, you can be missed by a member of your star family, but arenâ??t mourned for for too long. It isnâ??t too painful, another star can be your substitute, and humans like me will never know. Well, that gave me something to think on. I still couldnâ??t go to sleep, and I was wondering if everyone else was sleeping over this incident pretty well. I snuck down stairsâ??intentionally keeping the magazine under my pillowâ??to see if Michaelâ??s pulse was racing, or if it was in normal speed. It was. Despite my cold fingers gently touching his wrist, he stayed still. Though his head was slugged over in a sloppy way. I grew hungry, but didnâ??t want to make much noise, so I chose some salt-tine crackers to melt on my tongue. The little scar in my gums started to itch again, so by my third cracker, I put the rest up. Just to see if his conscious was guilty or not, I checked that pulse again. Still, it was normal! So I shrugged back up the stairs. My dadâ??s door was pushed all the way up, but wasnâ??t closed. Every inch I pushed it open, the squeak got louder. (Clarence) â??Lyric, that you?â? His voice wasnâ??t that slurred, since he feels he needs to be alert at all hours of the year. The smart thing to do was to NOT shrug that off. He wouldnâ??t let it go once we woke up. (Me) I hesitated though, and fidgeted with my toes. â??Yeah?â? (Clarence) â??Got problems sleeping?â? (Me) â??Uh, yeah, actually, I am.â? (Clarence) â??Come in, and close the door after you.â? (Me) â??Sure.â? I went in, and closed the door. Then I went over to his bed. He scooted over for me, and offered to let me get in also. I responded with no by shaking my head. Dad and our talks during late at nights were always done in the dark. That was to make things easier mainly for me and my face expressions. Dad rarely lost his temper. He just seemed to be there, blocking all arrows that are targeting one another. Before he got a chance to sit up, I just let my head collapse on his chest, and linked my arms around his waist. He hesitated, sighed, and let out what was on both of our minds. (Clarence) â??This must be about that magazine.â? (Me) â??It just doesnâ??t seem to make sense.â? (Clarence) sighed, â??Michael has had girlfriends. Heâ??s a young man. Now, donâ??t tell me you like him.â? I saw the outline of his smile, as he sat up. (Me) â??I donâ??t! Really, I donâ??t. I know you can sense all the intensity behind what I just said. He isnâ??t my type, Dad. I really just want to focus on Lyric. And the person she wants to be.â? (Clarence) â??Thatâ??s a good outlook. I like it. But what about Ian Russell?â? I rolled my eyes. (Me) â??What about Ian Russell? I made it up! Heâ??s just a friend who has a crush on me. Itâ??s awkward! Well, it was! But Dad, Iâ??m letting the fact that Michael is staying here not affect me or my social/emotional life change either.â? (Clarence) â??Whyâ??s that?â? (Me) â??Because, heâ??s the nanny, remember?â? (Clarence) â??Oh, yeah. Just know that.â? (Me) â??I guess Iâ??ll go to bed now.â? (Clarence) â??Since you neglected choir practice yesterday, you really need your rest.â? (Me) â??Okay. â??Night, Dad.â? (Clarence) â??Love you Lyric.â? (Me) â??Oh, Dad, is Michael coming with us? I thought his family was another religion.â? (Clarence) â??Jehovah Witness.â? (Me) â??Well, I donâ??t know about that. I donâ??t practice any type of Islam. Iâ??m Christian, and I want my childrenâ??s blood to be fully that. (Clarence) â??Well, Michael believes in God, you know.â? (Me) â??But not Christmas!â? Then I slammed the door. (Lol) I went to sleep a little better then. I woke up, stretching, feeling a bit better. I slid to my mirror, and smiled. My hair is kinda short. When itâ??s curled, it reaches either above or on my shoulders. I used to cut it every month or two, but I let it grow out more and more. I got ready by putting on my white dressy shirt and skirt church clothes, and sitting my robe (or whatever itâ??s called, I forgot!) out on my bed, so I could put it over my church clothes. I went downstairs, and saw Michael dressed up, sharp! Now, my heart nearly dropped. He looked so formal. I wouldnâ??tâ??ve been surprised if I saw him get up, and walk out with a brief case under his arm. I could tell his picked his afro last night. or at least mad it nappier. Me, I always thought it was the craziest thing for even women to have nappy hair, and not get laughed at. I loved my afro, but had it straightened out for a little. He looked up while I was still staring with my mouth agape (or agap). (Michael) â??Well, good morning to you too, Lyric. My magazine is gone, I know.â? (Me) â??Your magazine? Michael, I donâ??t know who bought it, but Iâ??m pretty sure it was already here before you, or even I got here.â? (Michael) â??Oh boy, one of my brothers mustâ??ve put it in my stuff when I was packing.â? (Me) â??To make me jealous? So what, I wouldnâ??t want to you? Mustâ??ve shown them a picture of me, or something.â? (Michael) â??You took it from me!â? (Me) â??Yeah. I surely did!â? (Michael) â??Where is it?â? (Me) mimicking him, â??Where is it? Where you think it is, Einstein.â? By the time we were leaving, Clarence announced Michael was going to church with us. (Me) â??Dad, I know.â? Once we got there, I went with the rest of my age group that was singing this Sunday, and got ready. Church that day wasnâ??t much different. I sanged my heart out as usual. (Clarence) â??Take that rob off Lyric, â??cause weâ??re eating out today!â? (Me) â??What for? We usually change into normal clothes, and eat fish!â? (Clarence) â??Not today, Buns. Michael said heâ??s paying.â? Then he ran off to talk to Ms. Alexander. When I looked around for Michael, he was talking to the pastor, doing a few moves with him. Show off, I couldnâ??t help thinking. I like singing and dancing and writing too; but that doesnâ??t mean Iâ??m going to do that 24-7. If I was to, or anyone, somebody must not have a life. I went for Clarenceâ??s keys, so I could crank up. Once I did, Michael came rapping on the window, and opened the door, and got in the passengerâ??s seat. He started whistling a song I singed solo. I was still confused by his anger over the stupid magazine, so I turned the music down, and looked at him. I mean, literally, just looked at him. (Michael) â??If Iâ??d known the cover wouldâ??ve caused you this much pain, I wouldnâ??tâ??ve had in either yours, or your fatherâ??s sight.â? (Me) â??So now youâ??re blaming my father too?! Michael, I, I just donâ??t wanna talk about it anymore.â? (Michael) â??Why? So, when it was you and Ian, everything was good and such. But me and Tatum, itâ??s chaos in the mind of Lyric.â? (Me) â??In the mind of Lyric?! Michael, Ian happens to be one of my friends! Okay! I said that, because I didnâ??t feel like fishing around you two! To be perfectly honest, I feel no good connection towards you! Ian and I are just friends. At the table, I had to think of him being someone muscular. Someone cool. But, for you to throw that in my face. Michael, I read the part Tatum put. Now, there is a you, Tatum, and Stephanie all in one. There was a picture of you and Steph!â? (The picture with Michaelâ??s arm around Stephanieâ??s shoulder, sitting on the couch.) (Michael) â??The relationship was cut short, Lyric.â? (Me) â??So!â? I was getting red in the eyes. My chest was swelling up, heaving. I got out the truck, slamming, and walked away to the back of the church. My emotions were getting the best of me. Michael grabbed my arm, which surprised me. (Michael) whispering in my ear. â??Come here.â? For the first time, I looked at him with fear. He carefully grabbed me by the elbows, and put me in the back sit of Clarenceâ??s truck. I know why, because he was coming over. (Clarence) â??Ready you guys?â? (Michael) â??Yep.â? (Clarence) â??Lyric, whatâ??s wrong?â? I sat up, and said: â??Nothing, Dad.â? When we got to the restaurant, we had to wait 15 minutes until we were able to be served. (Me) â??You shouldâ??ve made reservations Michael.â? (Clarence) â??You canâ??t eat your cake, and like it too.â? (Me) â??Uh, Dad, I think you mean, â??you canâ??t have your cake, and eat it tooâ??.â? (Clarence) â??Then, whatâ??s the point of even having it!â? Gee, fathers! Dad was called over to some people he knew, and it was one more seat left. While this womenâ??s boyfriend went to the bathroom, she winked at Michael. (Women) â??Here Sugar, have my seat.â? She was demanding it in her eyes, so Michael had no choice. (Michael) â??Thank you Maâ??am.â? (Women) â??No problem. Just call me Tootsie.â? He so blushed. After the womanâ??s boyfriend came back, he looked at her like she was crazy, until their names were called. I was walking up and down the narrow lane, arms folded, head down. (Michael) â??You know Lyricâ??you donâ??t have to be this down and out.â? (Me) â??Stop trying to sing to me Michael. I donâ??t want to hear it.â? Some kidâ??s toy was right in my pathway, and I tripped over it. I fell into this random guy who was with a bunch of other guys. Once I regain my balance again, I looked up. (?) â??Well, hello there.â? (Me) â???????â? *Note, for anyone or any other religion, no offense. Including Islamic. This â??personâ? is kind of real. At my school, thereâ??s cops, and one is kind of cute, or something like that. And we share last names. Mine is real different, so that was a real wow. It took me all day to get it real special. Itâ??s 7:13 Eastern time.
