Amber's Heart Part 7
Here it goes I thought I mightâ??ve heard murmurs which was either a good or bad sign. I wiped my irritated face, and my nose was out of luck. I rocked back and forth on my heels like a baby. Should you even like Michael? Thatâ??s what I asked myself. Have you ever heard of the saying about reading through a person? They seem so charming at first and very intelligentâ??then out of nowhere they try pressuring you into things. This was so random, there was no way I could go around the fact I liked him. He knew it, Pam knew it, and Jan knew it. I wouldnâ??t be very surprised if Katherine knew too! If I wanted this thing to be buried, I would have to be on good terms with Michael again. But what if that was his true personality. â??Seriously, all I did was ask you a simple question and you take your anger out on me. So what is this a confession? What you like me?â? Those words kept buzzing through my head. Not even my response came close to my mind, just his. What he said wasnâ??t harsh, just how he said it. Was the fact my feelings were showing and what he said was supposed to intimidate me or what? I knew we were going to have to talk this over so my heart could ache a little less. Maybe we could stop rubbing each other the wrong way. (I just heard that saying on Snapped lol) I heard soft steps opening Michaelâ??s door with a squeak, then closed. Now I heard feet migrating around his room, trying to find me. I got nervous and more nervous, much unprepared for the volcano that was about to erupt once again. Someone approached his closet door then opened it. I was facing sideways and without saying anything, someone lifted me in a brideâ??s way onto a bed, then someoneâ??s lap. Since my parents were separated, I never felt one-hundred percent comfortable on a manâ??s lap, not even Santaâ??s or the Easter Bunny. I was sitting on Michael of course. I never knew I was that light other than in my feet. Michael: (Finally managing to get my eyes to dilate with his. He just stared in my eyes. No matter how many times I looked away, he patiently waited for me to look back at him. He understood my heart was shelling up like a stone, and knew that had to melt away fast. When I kept looking from him, he couldnâ??t help but smile a little and giggle.) Amber? Me: What? Michael: Iâ??m sorry. Me: For what, that, that I, what made a fool out of myself? Michael: No, how I treated you. I didnâ??t even watch my friends play baseball. Iâ??m not even sure if baseball is even at our school anymore. I went to the park. Me: Why? Michael: I wanted to think, clear my mind. Victoria sees you as a threat. Me: I never did anything to cause that, whatever it couldâ??ve been had to be minor. Michael: Sheâ??s been trying to get me back. Me: Then she can have you; her feelings may be strong enough to have you again. I got up from his lap and went to his bathroom for the first time to get the rest of the snot from my nose. He followed me to the mirror. Michael: Come here. Me: (I stood there staring at my horrid face in my reflection, then back at him.) Michael came up to me and took my wrist then stood behind me with his hands on my shoulders. Michael: What do you see? Me: Puffy red eyes and a girl looking depressed. Michael: I see someone who is battling their feelings for me. And I like you too. I turned around in total shock. How could this boy act like a jerk then get me? How could I fall for it? Michael: Yep, you heard me. Amber I like you a lot. I donâ??t know what it is about you. Youâ??re more than a pretty face. You want to be so perfect and I can tell you hurt inside. But if you let me, Iâ??ll be your boyfriend. I acted that way because you werenâ??t that subtle and earlier, I was very frustrated. I wasnâ??t sure if you were playing with my feelings. Me: Well I thought the same. One minute youâ??d tease me; the next you would ignore me. That made me so mad, Michael. Iâ??m not much of a dater, and for you to act so cold at times made me mad. I was hurt and furious. I donâ??t like that feeling at all, so why do it, huh? Michael: I want you, youâ??re gonna be mine, I swear. Me: As if. I went back to his bed and sat there. I looked around it and wondered what was really behind these walls, how could I read through all of the bull to reality. He just leaned in his doorway staring at me. Me: What? Michael didnâ??t say anything. Me: What Michael? Still nothing. He just strides to my side and sat beside me and put his arm around my shoulder. After a few minutes, I started crying again and buried my face in his shoulder. He just patted my head and stroked my hair, quietly shushing me. I wasnâ??t holding onto anything anymore, I just kept crying. Me: Iâ??m so sorry Michael, I really am. Michael: Donâ??t worry Amber. I think we both gradually leaned over and lay on his bed. After a while I stopped crying. My head was a little dizzy, but no snot came running, so my head felt stuffed. I sat up and hugged my knees. Me: Sorry Iâ??m acting like such a baby, I havenâ??t cried this good in a while. Michael: I was hoping so: you cried a river. Me: (giggling then turning serious) I like you Michael, I really do. I just donâ??t want a good thing to go downhill. Michael: How will we ever know if we never try? That was a good point. Michael looked me in my eyes, so I knew what that was all about. He gently took my chin in his hand and leaned forward, so I leaned forward too. Our lips touched so softly at first, and then it grew a little firm. It felt weird at first because I havenâ??t kissed in so long. The last lips were scratchy. He pulled from me slowly, making me wanting more. He silently laughed because I looked so awkward and timid. Me: What? Michael: You look scared. Me: Oh really? I started to tickle him. I had to pin him down and tickle his bellyâ??which wasnâ??t much of a belly because he was healthy. It wasnâ??t long before I was pinned and he started tickling me. When one ticklish spot was blocked, he would go to the other. After I pleaded for him to stop, he kissed all over my neck. I grabbed his face and kissed him. We just laughed and hugged one another. He kissed my forehead and giggled. Pam and Jan busted in his room, rolling over like they were the Charlie Angelâ??s. Janet: Aha! I knew you two liked each other. Pamela: Ooh Michael and Amber. Then she started making kissy expressions with her hands Me: Pam! Jan! I ran after them and closed Janetâ??s room door. They were jumping all over my shirt. Janet: See, I told ya! I knew you liked Michael, I knew it! Pamela: Congrats. Me: How could you? Janet: We didnâ??t plan any of this; we really thought Michael was at school. We just thought he was lying about the baseball part. Pamela: All that noise in there, we were afraid it was more than just tickling. Me: No way Pamela. They didnâ??t need me to tell the story, they knew all of it. Me: Did your mom hear us? Janet: She went to sleep. Sheâ??s like old people, she goes to sleep early. Me: Thatâ??s mean. Janet: Itâ??s the truth. We talked some more on the floor and watched TV then we were tired, that was around one. Janet: Who wants to share a twin bed? Pamela: I wouldnâ??t mind sharing. Janet: You sleep at the foot of my bed Pam. We donâ??t know if Michael will try to come in. Me: Haha Jan. Janet: Good night you guys. Both: Night. Jan lay at the head of her bed with Pamela at the foot. I was alone in the other twin bed, facing her wall. I fell in a good sleep, but an hour later I grew thirsty so I went and got some water from downstairs then went to use the bathroom real quick. When I went out, I saw a figure walking out of their room. Michael: (whispering) Amber? Me: (growing terribly shy again, I wanted to dash in the stall but knew I would be trapped) Yeah? Michael: Come here. Me: Why? Michael: I canâ??t go to sleep. Me: Try. Michael: I need you. Me: Michael. Michael: Please, Amber. He kissed me on my cheek. Me: Fine. He took me by the hand and cut on his lamp and the TV. Me: Hey, Iâ??m not going to be in here all night, okay? Michael: Kay. Unlike Janet, Michaelâ??s bed was about my size, maybe a queen size. Hers was pretty much the same sizes, just bisected. (Bisect(ed): cutting an angle in half or half. Itâ??s a math term I learned lol.)He offered me some covers again. Me: I donâ??t know Michael. Michael: I wonâ??t try anything crazy Amber. Please. Me: Sure. I got in with him and watched some TV. It was silent in the room. Michael: I shouldâ??ve gotten some snacks, Iâ??ll be right back. Me: No Michael. Michael: Please, I know youâ??re hungry. Me: Go ahead. Then I patted his behind to give him a head start, he turned around and acted like he was going to bite me. I just squealed and put the covers over my head. When he came back, he had popcorn and two big plastic cups filled with Coke. Michael also had two turkey sandwiches and some rice krispies. Me: Michael, no way? Michael: Yes. He sat the stuff down and kissed me on the forehead. Me: Thank you. I hugged his neck and kissed him. I took the sandwich and started eating. Me: Wow Michael, this is delicious! Michael: Thanks. When we were eating the popcorn, I saw him staring at me. I tried thinking to myself what does a teenage boy has on his mind, and then I knew. He was eating more of the popcorn than me so I wondered if that was why he was staring at me. I grabbed some of the popcorn finally and chewed slowly. Did I mention I have braces? I didnâ??t want popcorn kernels between my teeth, so that was another reason I ate slowly. Michael: Why are you eating like a toothless mule? Me: Maybe I like that. Michael: Maybe I like you. (We went on eating popcorn. Once we finished, he sat all of the stuff on the floor beside his bed.) Me: Iâ??ll put the stuff away. Michael: No, Iâ??ll do it. While he was away, I started falling back to a soothing nap. Michael came back and closed the door slowly. When he got back in the bed, he started kissing me. Me: (sleepily pushing him away) Michael, stop. Michael: (kept kissing me) Me: Michael, stop, now, please stop. Michael: Alright. Me: I need to go back to Janetâ??s room. Michael: Stay with me some more, please. Me: No Michael. I canâ??t stay. Michael: Fine, one more kiss? Me: One more kiss. As I was slipping out his bed, I leaned over and kissed him. Me: Night Michael. Michael: Bye Amber. I closed his door again and eased back in the bed. I went back to sleep, then I felt a presence getting in my bed. I was about to scream out in terror, when a hand cupped my mouth. Michael: (putting a finger to his mouth) Sshh. Me: Get out the bed, go to your own room! Michael: I still canâ??t sleep. Me: Thatâ??s your problem, not mine. I turned back over towards the wall. He didnâ??t say anything else, just hugged me by the waist. As you can see, this is nothing Iâ??m used to. A boy sneaking in a room youâ??re sleeping in at a sleepover, and then heading to your bed because he is attracted to you is nerve wrecking to me. After a while I didnâ??t feel so stiff anymore, I just calmed down and started breathing normally again. I wasnâ??t sure if he was still awake, so I nudged him a little bit and asked if he was awake. Michael: (whispering) Yeah. Thatâ??s how I went to sleep that night. When the sun had rose, I was still a little sleepy, but knew I needed to leave, so I got up. I didnâ??t see Michael beside me, so I went to use the bathroom and gather my stuff. I told Jan and Pamela bye, then I knocked on Katherineâ??s door and told her I was heading for my house. She asked if I wanted to be driven and I said I was fine. Before I left, I wanted something to drink real quick. I looked in their fridge and saw some orange juice. It wasnâ??t too much and I didnâ??t want to mess with any of the dishes, so I opened the flap and drunk from the carton. I didnâ??t put my mouth to it; I had my mouth inches away from the carton, so none of my DNA got on the flap. When I put it back, Michael said boo. Me: Michael, jeez you really like scaring me. Michael: I just like to see you jiggle. Me: Euww. Michael: What? Me: Well, Iâ??m leaving. Can you cut your alarm off? Michael: Sure. He decided to walk me home again. Michael: Let me hold your luggage for you. Me: Thanks. So where did you go once you left and when? Michael: I went back to my bed at five. Me: Oh. When we got to my porch, Michael leaned down to kiss me. Me: (turning away) I hadnâ??t brushed my teeth yet. Michael: So? He wrapped his arms around mine and kissed me. Michael: Cook me up something brilliant! Me: Iâ??ll try. Then he slapped me on the back thigh. Me: Michael! Michael: See you at five Amber. I threw a nearby branch at him. Me: Eat that! When I went into the house, Sandy was just steeping away from the window. Sandy: New boyfriend? Me: Maybe. Sandy: Spill it. So I told her about Michael being at â??baseball practiceâ? and the rest. Sandy: Wow, and I thought Cassandra Adele Hicks was mentally challenged. Me: Shut up Sandy. Sandy: The chicken is ready to boil. Me: Okay. I put on an apron and started cooking. Sandy put my things away. Beanie: Cooking Amber? She just woke up Me: Yeah. Can you ask Sandy to do my hair? Beanie: After I get some waffles. Me: Beanie. Beanie: Donâ??t worry, Iâ??ll make them. It took a while for the chicken to boil, but when it did, Mom said she would do the rest. Me: I want my hair to be in small curls and I need to do the dessert. Mom: The pineapple upside down cake will probably be finished while weâ??re eating. Me: Did you get the bread sticks also? Mom: I ended up getting three loaves of white bread instead. Me: Thatâ??ll work. Thanks Mommy. Mom: Youâ??re welcome Baby. Also about this guy, whatâ??s his name again? Me: Michael, why? Mom: Thatâ??s Janetâ??s older brother right? Me: Yeah, they live on that side of us. I said pointing Mom: I havenâ??t seen him yet. Me: You will later on. I went upstairs to take a shower. Sandy told me to wet my hair a little, and then she would put moose and the rest. I briefly stuck my head under the spray before I got out, then went to Sandy. She sat me down and put moose and some spray in my hair. She said to get dressed before she put my hair in the actual style. I went to my closet and didnâ??t know what to wear. I spotted Sandyâ??s old dress she gave me last autumn. It was a striped dress with brown, baby blue, and white. It had a bow in the front that was brown and I choose my brown slide-ins with it. I chose some small brown hoops and silver studs. I looked pretty. Sandy took me back into the bathroom and put my hair a French role with the back that was in a ponytail down in curls. Sandy: Tada! Me: Thank you Sandy, thank you, thank, thank you! Sandy: Youâ??re welcome. Now tell me about this guy. Beanie: (sneaking up) yeah tell me. Me: Beanie hush. She just rolled her eyes. Beanie: This blouse is itchy. Me: You look wonderful Beanie. Too bad Pamâ??s brother isnâ??t here. Beanie: Heâ??s dead? Me: (laughing) No, Peter is going out with her parents. Beanie: Rats. Give me Pamelaâ??s number. Me: Why? Beanie: Just give me the phone number. Me: Fine. I wrote it down and she dialed Pamelaâ??s phone number. Sandy: Now, your face. Me: I donâ??t want too much. I do want to eat. Sandy: Iâ??ll put on a little blush, mascara, lipstick and gloss, some eyeliner too. Iâ??m glad you wore my dress, I can use brown so your eyes will pop out some more. Me: Okay. She put all of it on carefully. Me: Wow, I look beautiful! Whatâ??s the time? Sandy: Two-thirty. Me: Iâ??m going back down there. Sandy: Okay. I went to work on the dessert. The main dish was still cooking and the bread was baking. This took a little longer than I would think. By four the dessert was slowly baking. The pineapple upside down cake probably wasnâ??t going to be the best, but I was going to make it work. Mom: (walking downstairs) Amber, how about adding some frozen punch? Me: Do we have time? Mom: Yes, I did in advance: I just need to get extra ginger ale. Me: Why didnâ??t you get it beforehand? Beanie: Itâ??s called being cheap! Sandy: Ha, good one Beanie. Beanie: Hey, thanks. Mom: Guys hush. Iâ??ll be back in a sec. Beanie: Byeee Auntieee. Mom: Uh-huh. Then she left. Sandy was upstairs reading some old magazines, while Beanie was playing with a bouncy ball in her room. I was stuck making sure the food was still smelling good. Four-fifteen was when I got a home call. I was a little nervous if it was Michael. When I last laid my eyes on him, we were teasing each otherâ??I was still stiff and shy around him because I liked him. And you know how most boys try going off with their first instincts by aggravating the girl so much, she ends up liking them, then marrying them. Which that would be an odd story to tell their grand-guppies (I love that saying). I answered the phone with shaky hands. Me: Hello? Janet: Hey girl. Me: Hey, what is up haha. Janet: Nothing. Michael is dressed up nice. Me: Donâ??t tell me what heâ??s wearing please, I want to see it. Janet: Too late, look through your kitchen window. That just came in my head, the last part that Janet said.
