Another Part Of Me - Part 10
I thought at first, How will I ever know? But then I realised, I could get a DNA test for the baby. But it wasn't born yet, so I would have to wait until it was born. 7th December 1984 I was close to the wedding. The wedding was on the 11th, and we were having the 'big move' on the 13th. I was really big and I had been given the baby's due date - the 19th. I felt unwell all the time and I was worried I'd not be well enough for the wedding. I yawned and went into the kitchen to make coffee. I realised the kettle was packed in a box for the move. I sighed and got some orange juice out of the fridge. My eyes were barely open, I was really tired lately because of the pregnancy. I reached into the fridge and pulled out the glass bottle of orange juice. I had a sip of it from the bottle and realised it didn't taste right. I had a look at the label, and then realised it was ALCHOHOL. "Oh my god! I shouldn't be drinking this!" I eclaimed. "Thomas! Thom, get in here!" Thomas came into the kitchen. "I drunk some of your lager!" I panicked. "I thought it was orange juice!" "It won't harm the baby... probably," Thomas replied. "Are you sure?" "Yeah." I sat in the living room watching TV, feeling tired. Before I knew it I had fell asleep! I woke up with a yawn. I looked out of the window and realised it was the next day. I stood up and walked towards the stairs, when I lost my balance and everything went black. "Wh... Muh... Thomas... What happun..." I murmured. "Britney... you passed out," he answered. I took a look around and realised I was in a hospital bed. "What am I doing here?" I yelled clearly. "You're about to have the baby, Ms Summers," said the nurse. "But... but... It's not due until the 19th! And I have a wedding in three days!" I cried. "Not all babies are born on the due date. Some come early, some come late!" concluded the nurse. "I want you to push," she told me. "What now?" I cried. "I can't watch this. I'm outta here!" exclaimed Thomas and ran out. "Thomas!" I shouted. "Come back!" But I realised he wasn't coming back. I always thought I'd have somebody with me right now, I thought bitterly. Three more pushes and a LOT of pain, and the baby was born. "It's a girl!" exclaimed the nurse and went to clean her up. She brought her back soon after and handed her to me. "Well, thanks. You were more helpful than my fiance," I said. She laughed. "What's her name?" she asked. "Honestly? I don't know yet!" A while later, Thomas came in. "Glad to know you were there for me," I remarked sarcastically. "Baby, you know I can't watch hospital programmes on TV." He took the baby. "I'm gonna call her Lucy," I told him. "No. I don't like that name. There is no way you are calling her Lucy," protested Thomas. "How fat is she? God she is heavy." "She is 7lbs 2 ounces," I answered. "That's way too big," complained Thomas. "I don't know why I take this sh*t," I told him and took the baby back. Six hours later, I was home. I went straight to bed and told Thomas to sort the baby out. "Can't you take any responsibility for her?" whined Thomas. "Uhm, can't you try not to call her too fat? Now, read, 'Becoming a Father For Dummies' and be a man," I argued and went upstairs. The next day, I got a DNA Test on the baby. After everything was done, I was expecting the results on the 11th. The wedding day. I thought, Isn't that a little soon? I was concerned they wouldn't turn up in time for us moving to France. Of course, I also had to avoid Thomas seeing them. 11th DECEMBER 1984 I had a stylist doing my hair. My dress was ready as well and I felt like a total princess. All of my sisters were there helping me get ready. "Britty! Ya got post!" one of them called. "Bring it up!" I called. A short while later, Paige arrived and handed me the post. "Thanks, Pay," I said. "Anytime, Britz." I sorted through them and found the letter I was expecting. "I'm just going to go in the bathroom," I told everyone. I walked out and when I was in the bathroom I locked the door. "Now then," I thought to myself. I opened the DNA test. I read the results anxiously. "I thought so," I said to myself.
