I Still Love You (3): Rehab
Had another two hour ride in the back of cab with another driver telling me how great my dad is, as if I didn't know this already, but I just smiled and agreed. I finally made it to the streets of Baldwin Hills. I got out the cab and began walking around the streets asking if anyone had seen my mother. So far, all I've gotten are "no's" and drunk people speaking in an unknown language. But suddenly I came across this tall, thin, beautiful woman. She was standing against a wall smoking a cigarette. I hesitated at first but I approached her. "Excuse me, ma'am?", I said. She looked at me. "Yes?" "Umm..do you know a Ka'Tya Mavré? I'm her daughter and I been look-" She cut me off. "Wait, your Ka'Tya's daughter?", she asked seeming a bit surprised. I nodded and a wide smile spread across her face. "Wow... Ok I know exactly where your mom is. This card has all the information on it", she said pulling out a card from her back pocket. I read it. "She's in rehab?", I asked. "Yeah. She ain't been in there too long. I just sent her there yesterday", she said. I don't know what came over me but suddenly I hugged the lady. "Thank you so much! What's your name?", I asked. "Jane. And you're welcome Gia", she smiled. "You know my name...", I said "Yeah, your mom talked about you all the time. Now look you better go before visiting hours are over", she said. "Alright. Bye Jane", I said walking off. "Bye Gia. Tell your mom I miss her, ok?", she said. "Ok, I will", I said as I continued walking. I looked down at the card to see where the rehabilitation center was. Hmm, not too far... just a couple blocks up. I can walk there. Sure beats the awkward cab rides. As I walked I noticed men staring at me and checking me out. Ugh, pervs. I should've changed out of this dress before I left home. I'm sure they wouldn't be staring if I was dressed like a bum. I rolled my eyes to myself and continued walking. I finally reached the building. I took a deep breath and then walked in. There was a lady sitting behind a glass so I went up to it. "Ma'am?", I said. She turned around in her chair and looked at me. "Yes?", she responded. "Hi, I'm here to see Ka'Tya Mavré", I said. Please let her be here... "Right this way", she said. She stood up and signaled for me to follow her. We began to walk until we reached a room that had multiple tables in it. She led me to a table and I sat down. "What is your name?", she asked. "Gia Jackson", I responded. Her eyes widened and she began to write on a notepad. "Jackson..? Alright, I'll go see if I can find Ka'Tya for you." I nodded and waited. Minutes later the lady walked back in and a tall woman followed. She was about my complexion with light brown hair...she looked just like me. That's my mom... has to be. They walked over to the table and the lady left. Now it was just me and the lady that I now know is my mom. She smiled and just hugged me. I hugged her back. "Gia..oh my gosh I can't believe you're here", she said releasing me and sitting down. I sat down in front of her. I wiped away tears that managed to escape my eyes. "I know. After dad told me the truth about you two, I wanted to find you", I said playing with my nails. She smiled. "How did you find me?" "Well I looked up your name on the web and Club Strawberry came up so I went there..", I said. "You did what?!", she yelled in a whisper, "How did you even get in?" "Uhh, fake ID", I said. "Don't do that anymore. But what made you come here since I wasn't there?", she asked. "Well this guy named Tony told me that he sees you around the "streets" sometimes so I went to Baldwin Hills", I said. Her eyes widened. "Did you say Tony? Gia, please, stay away from him." "Why?", I asked. "He's not right...he's part of the reason I'm like this", she said looking away. "But he seemed nice...a little creepy..but nice", I said. She let out a sarcastic laugh. "Yeah that's how it starts ...he's all nice, giving compliments and next thing you know you're like me...please, stay away from him Gia." I sighed. "Alright... I won't go near him anymore", I say. She smiled. "Good...wait, does your dad know you're here?" "Um, no...I told him I was at the library", I said. "What? Gia you've gotta go now. I don't want him to get worried", she said getting up. I got up too. "You're right. Well, bye... I'll come back again soon." "And with yourfather's permission", she added. I smiled. "Right. Bye... mom", I said hugging her. Mom... I gotta get used to saying that. "Bye Gia", she said letting me go. I turned around and headed down the hallways to the exit. I stopped by the glass to sign out. When I turned around and looked out the door there was paparazzi everywhere. All I could see were the flashes of cameras. Crap... how am I suppose to get outta here now?? And how'd they know I was here..? That desk lady... I know she told! I spotted a phone on the wall nearby. I dialed my dad's number. I waited and he finally answered. "Hello..?", he answered. "Dad! I need you to send a limo to me right away and some security! There's paparazzi everywhere", I said. "You're at the library right?", he asked. "No. I'm at the Baldwin Hills rehabilitation center... please just send someone to get me now. I'll explain everything when I get there", I said. "But-", he began. "Dad, please", I pleaded. "Fine, I'm sending a driver right now", he says. I can tell he's angry. He hung up and I sat in a chair waiting. *4 hours later* I finally made it home and dad is so mad. But I haven't even explained yet. "What were you doing at that rehabilitation center??", he asked pacing. "Well, I-" "What would posses you to even go into that area?", he asked. "See-" "How could you lie to me?", he asked. I didn't answer. "Well??", he said impatiently. "Can I talk now? Are you sure there's nothing else you wanna ask?", I asked with a slight attitude. He rolled his eyes. "Just answer the questions." "I was there for my mom", I said lowly. "Your mother...what are you talking about?", he asked now calming down but with a face of confusion. "Somebody told me that she was there so I went and I talked to her", I responded. "So you did find her... who told you?", he asked. "I think her name was Jane. She lives on the streets...but she was the one who sent mom to rehab", I said. "So your mother is getting better. How did she look..?", he asked. Suddenly I heard the clicking of heels entering the room. It had to be Lisa. "How did who look? And, oh, look who finally decided to come back", she said eyeing me. "Yes, I'm back. Now that we're done stating the obvious...", I said turning back to dad, "She looks so great. She's only been in for a day but she looks so pretty." "Who looks pretty?", Lisa asked. "Um, don't you got somewhere to be?", I asked annoyed. "Gia stop...", dad said. I sat back and crossed my arms and legs. "Are you going out Lisa?", he asked her. "Well, I was but I think I'll stay here now", she said looking at me with a smirk. "How pleasant..", I said flashing her an obvious fake smile. "Mhm", she said sitting down next to dad and raising an eyebrow. "Gia found her mother today. She's in rehab", he said partially smiling. "Wow..that's great. I guess", Lisa said nonchalantly. "I told her I would come back to visit but this time with your permission ", I told him. "Ok. But you're grounded for a week. Don't ever do this again", he warned. "I won't, I promise", I said. "Hm. So she remembered you? Guess she wasn't as doped up as I thought", Lisa said with the smirk still there. "Why are you still here? Aren't you suppose to be in some other man's bed right now? Leeching off of another family, maybe?", I asked ending it with another fake smile. Lisa's mouth opened as if she was trying to say something but nothing came out. "Exactly", I said with a small laugh. "Stop, you two", dad said sighing. "Look, can I go to my room now?", I asked. "Yes", he responded. I ran up to my room and closed the door. Great, I'm grounded. Guess I'll just write... *Michael's P.O.V* "Lisa... you can't say things like that in front of her. You shouldn't be saying those things period", I said. "The woman left her-", Lisa began. "We were young! You have no right to say negative things about her mother when you don't even know the whole situation", I said with anger in my eyes. "But you told-", Lisa began, again. "When you and I first got together, I told you things but only out of anger. Yeah, her mother did leave her, and it was wrong, but that does not define her as a person so do not sit here and talk about Ka'Tya like you know her", I said sternly. "Why so defensive? You're defending her as if you're still with her but you're not. I'm with you now Michael ", Lisa said. "I know I'm not with her but she is still the mother of my child and I'm not gonna allow you to disrespect her in my home because when you disrespect her, you're disrespecting my daughter also", I say getting up. "Fine", Lisa said. She walked out the door. I wasn't even gonna stop her this time. I walked up to my room and closed the door. | 8:17 a.m. | * Gia's P.O.V * Ugh.... it's summer break so why am I getting up this early? Skip it, I'm going back to sleep. I laid my head back down. "GIA!", I heard dad yell. So much for going back to sleep... I got up quickly and ran down the stairs. "Is everything okay?", I asked frantically. "Everything's fine. I just had a question", he said. I straight faced him. "You interrupted the rest of my beauty sleep for a question?", I asked. He giggled. "It's important. Now who did you say helped you find your mother?" "Uh... Jane, in Baldwin Hills..", I said. "Do you remember exactly where she is in Baldwin Hills?", he asked. "Well I remember where she was but I don't know if she'd still be in the same spot..she was only a few blocks away from the rehab center", I responded with curiosity. I wonder what all the questions are about. "Ok", he responded as he walked over to the coffee table. He picked up a pencil and a notepad and began to write. "Ok, what are you up to?", I asked crossing my arms. "I'm going to find that lady so I can properly thank her. Let her have lunch here with us", he said. I laughed. "Dad, she's in Baldwin Hills." He stared. "Yeah?" "Dude, you're Michael Jackson. You can't just go struttin' around in a fancy limo in that area", I said still laughing. "Hmm..you're right. I can't but you can", he said. "Or you could've just driven the tinted-window Escalade...but since you already offered, ok!", I said running upstairs to freshen up. | 15 minutes later | I looked into the mirror. Hm, how come I never wore these shorts before..? They are cute! "Gia, come on!", I heard dad yell. "Alright!", I yelled back. I went downstairs and headed for the door. "Gia, come straight home and be careful", he said. "I will", I said kissing his cheek. I ran out to the Escalade and hopped in then began to drive off. | 2 hours later | I made it to Baldwin Hills and began to drive around. Where in the world is she? Ugh, I don't have time for this. I continued to drive around as I became increasingly frustrated. Finally, I spotted her once again sitting against a wall smoking. I walked up to her. "You know, you should really break this smoking habit." She jumped a little startled. "Whoa, what are you doing here? And alone?", she asked. "My dad wants to meet you. Unfortunately he found out about my little rehab trip", I said rolling my eyes. "Am I in trouble?", she asked. "No, he wants to thank you with lunch", I said reaching out my hand to help her up. She got up and dusted off the back of her pants. "Well, that's nice of him...I guess we should go now", she said. "Alright", I said as I walked to the truck with her. We hopped in and I drove off. *An hour into the drive* "You know your lil' trip to the rehab has been on the news all day, right?", Jane said while reading a magazine. "What?! How do you know?", I asked frantically. "Went into a shop and saw it on a tv", she said nonchalantly. "Oh crap...", I said now nervous. | 1 hour later.. | We made it home and both rushed to the door. I hoped he hadn't seen the news yet. I got my key out and we walked in. "Dad! I'm back!", I yelled. We waited a minute and finally he made his way down the stairs. "He's even more fine in person", Jane whispered to me as he approached us. I couldn't help but laugh a little. "You must be Jane. It's a pleasure to meet you", he said shaking her hand. "The pleasure is all mine", she said in a flirty way. I cleared my throat. It was getting too awkward. "Ok dad, where's the food?", I asked. "Out on the patio", he said. I grabbed Jane's hand and led her to the patio. There's no way I was leaving her alone with my dad. We all sat down at the round table and began to eat. He had almost every type of food possible out here. "So, Jane, I heard that it was your idea to put Ka'Tya into rehab", dad said as he cut up the vegetables on his plate. "It was. When Ka'Tya first got out there, she was young and wild...she was doing everything, but at the same time I knew she was different. When she wasn't trying to "make money" she was always reading. There ain't too many people out there like that...I just knew she was smart. It took a while but I finally got her to go to rehab because I know when she gets better, she'll be able to get back on her feet and be there for Gia", Jane said. I smiled while looking down at my plate. Dad smiled. "Well, I appreciate you doing that for her. It would be really great to have her around", he said. "You're welcome. I try to help out anyone that I can", she said smiling. I was about to say something when I spotted Lisa coming our way. "So what's going on here?", she asked clearly confused. "You'd know if you stayed around..", I mumbled. Dad gave me a look and then cleared his throat. "This is Jane, the woman who helped Ka'Tya into rehab", he said smiling. "Oh, and why is she here?", she asked looking over at Jane. Jane stared at her with straightest face while taking a sip of her orange juice. "She's here because I invited her, is that a problem?", he responded frustrated. She just shrugged and walked back into the house. I just shook my head. "I'm sorry about Lisa...she's just", he began. I cut him off. "Annoying, bratty, spoiled, irrational, a jerk", I said. "I was gonna say, she's just not very comfortable with strangers being in our home", he said. Jane shrugged. "I get it. She didn't intimidate me one bit but I think I should go." "Well actually I was thinking you could stay the night", dad said. Jane's eyes got wide. "Wha- no, I can't do that." "Yes you can. You deserve it! Just stay, pleaseeee? We can hang out and stuff", I said. She was silent for a moment. "Alright fine. But y'all gotta promise to keep that Lisa chick away from me", she said folding her arms. "We'll try but she's like that annoying bee that just won't buzz away", I said rolling my eyes. "Gia..", dad said. "My bad. Well come on Jane! Let's get on some rides!", I said getting up. "Ok cool", she said. I grabbed her hand and we ran toward the rides. *Michael's P.O.V* I watched as they ran to the rides and then went in the house to find Lisa. I walked up to our room and found her laying on the bed watching tv. "Lisa, you were really rude down there", I said sitting next to her. "Rude? Are you kidding me? Bringing a total stranger into our home without telling me is rude!", she yelled. "Maybe you should stay around instead of spending all your nights and days out at God knows where!", I yelled back. "Are you serious?", she asked. "Does it look like I'm kidding? I'm tired of you asking for an explanation of things you could know about if you would just stay around! Where do you even go?", I responded. "With friends", she responded. "These friends of your must not have a life. You spend every waking moment with them", I said irritated. "They have lives but they also have time to do get out and do things", she responded while sitting up. I let out a laugh of frustration. "You really think I'm dumb. Lisa, is there someone else?", I asked. She sighed heavily. "No, Michael, I'm not about to do this right now." She began to get up. "Of course you're running. I don't even care anymore", I said laying back putting my focus on the tv. She sat down on the edge of the bed and sighed. "Michael, it's just- this life...", she spoke trying to find words. "The life is too much, I get that, but you knew what you were getting your self into when you got with me", I said. She nodded but didn't speak. I continued focusing on the tv. I was turning through the channels when I heard Gia's name. I stopped and watched. "Gia Jackson in rehab? We spotted Jackson's young daughter in the Beverly Hills rehabilitation center late yesterday and that really raised some eyebrows. Is Gia following the footsteps of her mother? How is Jackson dealing with this? We'll keep you updated on this developing story", the reporter said. I turned off the tv and put my face in my hands. "Don't worry about it Michael...you know how the media can get", I heard Lisa say. I took my hands off my face and looked at her. "Of course I know but this isn't right. Involving my child with their attempts to make me look bad...this is not right", I said lowly. "What are you gonna do?", she asked grabbing my hand. "I don't know honestly. I could get my representatives to give a statement but they won't believe it", I said. Lisa nodded her head in agreement. *Gia's P.O.V* | 4:03 p.m. | Jane and I are having so much fun! But I think we should've waited before getting on the rides because the amount of throwing up going on was ridiculous. "So what are we gonna do now?", Jane asked. "Well, we could go to my room and have girl talk!", I suggested. "Sounds good", she agreed. We went into the house and walked up the stairs. On our way to my room, I noticed dad's door close. Oh boy, that means that he's either mad or him and Lisa are....never mind, I don't even wanna know. I slightly cringed at my thoughts. We made it to my room and closed the door. We both took our shoes off and sat on my bed. "So, what's it really like being the daughter of a King", Jane asked. "What do you mean?", I asked with a slight laugh. "C'mon, I see it from the outside and it looks so perfect but as we both know it's not even that way", she said. "You're right. I mean as we both know my mom hasn't exactly been around so that's hard for me and my dad. Then he has his monster of a girlfriend living with us...", I say rolling my eyes. "Yeah, what's up with that Lisa chick? I always thought she would be cool", she said. "Me too. When I was younger she seemed so nice but as I got older she got so....annoying and bratty and bitter. She don't know what fun is at all which is why I have no clue what my dad saw in her", I said as I stretched. "He's a man. For them, beauty conquers all", she said with a laugh. I giggled. "But usually my dad can spot the good from bad...guess he slipped with this one." "Enough about her. You are 17, right?", she asked. "Yep, why?", I asked furrowing my eyebrows. "So do you got a boyfriend yet?", she asked smiling. "Honestly...no", I said lowly. Her face fell. "Oh, why not?" "I have no idea. Maybe it's because of who I am", I said shrugging. "Who you are? What's wrong with who you are?", she asked confused. "I'm Michael Jackson's daughter. When people look at me, all they see is my dad. Some people glorify me as being the princess of a king and the others like to call me "the daughter of Jacko". No one knows who I am....I'm just a shadow of my dad", I said nonchalantly. "I can understand that. Well, you shouldn't rush it anyways girl. Having high school boyfriends is overrated anyway. I mean their hormones are all over the place...they be just about ready to do anything with two legs. They confuse love with lust and will have you thinking they're the best thing ever. Take your time and one day that special one will come along", she said smiling. I hugged her. "Thank you so much for that advice. I don't really talk to my dad about that kind of stuff 'cause...well he's my dad", I said with a slight laugh. "I get it. Men were not made for those convos", she said. "Exactly. I tried talking to him about boys once and all he said was "boys are no good and if you kiss one you'll get pregnant". After that, I knew not to talk to him", I said getting off my bed and turning on the tv. She laughed. "He had a point though. It just doesn't happen that quick." "I know", I said laughing. We both continued to laugh and talk until I heard my name on the tv. "Breaking News! We've just heard from a representative of Michael Jackson that a statement will be released, in response of late yesterday's events, tomorrow. If you're just catching up, we spotted Gia Jackson, the daughter of King of Pop, Michael Jackson, insure of the Beverly Hills rehabilitation center. It's gonna interesting to hear what Mr. Jackson has to say about all this", the reporter said. "Man...I'm already grounded, this is just great", I said frustrated. "Sorry about all this. What you think the representatives are gonna say?", she asked. I got off the bed. "I don't even know but I'm gonna find out." I walked out the door and I could hear Jane following behind. I walked to my dad's room and opened the door. "Dad, what are we gonna do?", I asked him. "Next time, you mind knocking?", I heard Lisa ask. I ignored her and waited for his response. He let out a deep sigh. "Honestly, I have no idea but I'll have something for the representatives to say by tomorrow." "You know what, I wanna make a public statement", I said. "Gia, you're a child. They won't listen to you", he said. "I'm not a baby anymore. I think I should have a say in this situation", I argued. "Fine. I'll let you handle this...I just hope they really listen", he said rubbing his forehead. "Oh, trust me, they will", I said with a smirk. I walked out of his room and back to mine.
