Tough Love (1979) Part 5; Part 2
The last part was supposed to be â??On the Way to the Partyâ?. It was pretty early when I posted :D. and Lyricâ??s outfit is somewhat inspired by Kateâ??s from â??Ben Tucker Must Dieâ? and Nickâ??s is like Harry Styles from â??What Makes You Beautifulâ? of course :) ~enjoy! , Aariyan &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Chapter 5; Part 2 The Beach Party Now I donâ??t know if Nick saw us or not, so thatâ??s why I said, â??I got to call my dad right now to tell him whether I made it safe here or not.â? Those words came out very deliberately, awkwardly, and slow too. But at the same time, I needed to run from him. So I rudely walked away from his grasp and looked for a payphone. â??Hello?â? â??So you made it safely?â? â??Yeah, we just got hereâ?¦.You werenâ??t nervous, were you?â? â??Honey, anytime youâ??re riding with a friend, Iâ??m always bracing on something, just to make sure yâ??all are safe. Now I know youâ??ll lie if I asked if heâ??s a good driver or not so I wonâ??t ask.â? â??Well heâ??s actually decent; no exaggeration needed.â? â??Okay, well thatâ??s good. I wonâ??t hold you up any longer. Go have some safe fun!â? â??Okay!â? Now I can either see whether Nick saw what I HOPE he didnâ??t see, or I could opt to see my friends, but I canâ??t wait for the suspense. This made me walk over to Nick. â??Hey.â? â??Hey! Iâ??m just sittinâ?? this stuff down.â? â??Okay. Need help?â? He winks, then say no. â??Okay. Well Iâ??ll go search for the crew.â? â??Okay.â? And sure enough, my three friends were grouped up together again. â??Hey guys!!â? â??LYRIC!â? They squeal before we hugged. â??We were wonderinâ?? whether youâ??d make it, or how you would get here.â? Danielle says. â??Oh, Nick dropped me off here.â? And WHY did I say that. â??Ohhh, Nicholas Gatsby! I should not be surprised.â? Pat says. â??Why?â? I put my hands on my hips. â??Well he obviously,â? she raises her eyebrows twice. â??Pat is trying to convince herself that Nick likes you.â? â??I wonder why.â? I tell Danielle. â??But hey, she isnâ??t on crutches anymore. We should be talking about that.â? Sherry points at my leg. â??See, thank you Sherry. I always knew you were my favorite.â? I joke, then I give her another hug. â??Youâ??re going to have to catch us up on Hawaii.â? She says as she twists us in a circle. â??I knew that wouldnâ??t last for long,â? I mumble as I joked again. I was talking about the â??Sherry being my favorite best friendâ? phrase. â??Well you might as well get started,â? Danielle says. â??From the beginningâ?¦the VERY beginning,â? Patricia adds in. â??Well, from the beginning of time since I left the Christmas Party back in December 21st, I believeâ??â? â??Yeah, letâ??s go with that.â? â??No interrupting me, or I wonâ??t continue,â? I tell them. â??Michael and I dashed on our plane.â? Should I tell them about M.J.? Hmm, theyâ??re my closest friends. â??M.J. stops us at the airport before I got on the planeâ??â? â??WHAT?â? â??Huh?!â? I kept getting. â??Wait, but let me finish.â? So as I tell them about that and continued to update them, we eventually walk past Donovan and Nick. It seemed that none of them knew because they were happy as they conversed. This is some of what I heard: â??So youâ??re already back from CANADA?!â? â??Yeah, I was just visiting some of my family. Actually my mom and dad went up there too, so it was like a family reunion and vacation.â? â??Yeah, I meant to tell you Donovan was back,â? Pat whispered in my ear. I tried walking past those two, but then Donovan says, â??I KNOW yâ??all are not walking past us like yâ??all donâ??t see us.â? â??Lyric was telling us how Hawaii went,â? Patricia says. â??Oh yeah, I wanted to hear about that.â? Donovan smiles. â??Well Iâ??ll tell yâ??all at once.â? I fold my arms. â??Wanna know about Canada?â? â??Sure Donovan; how did it go?â? I did my best to hide my sarcasm. He has no idea that Iâ??m uncomfortable with being in a tight circle with him and Nick, even though Sherry, Patricia, and Dani was standing there too. â??Or you can wait until weâ??re all sitting around the fire.â? â??..Sure,â? Donovan shrugs. â??I guess Iâ??ll tell everyone else.â? â??Thereâ??s going to be a fire?â? â??Thatâ??s how you do a party on the beach, right?â? â??Howâ??s Tobey doing, Nick?â? â??Oh, heâ??s good Donovan. Heâ??s healing up, heâ??s feeling better.â? â??Yâ??all are going to meet him. Heâ??s Nickâ??s little cousin.â? â??Lyric knows who he is.â? Donovan and the rest of them look over at me. â??She met him the night of the Christmas party. He and my cousins were about to leave for Denver, and we held him.â? â??Oh.â? â??Thatâ??s before Michael picked me up so we could get on our plane to Hawaii.â? â??Oh.â? Maybe now that made more sense to Donovan then. â??We have some of the appetizers ready if yâ??all want to eat any of it.â? Austin announces to us. â??Oh yeah, speaking of you and Austin. You SHOULDNâ??T be worried about me. I donâ??t have the birthday at the end of the month. How are things for yâ??all?â? â??Great!â? Pat says. â??And when his birthday comes in April, it has to be special. I already talked to his mom, and since heâ??s turning eighteen, well I thought having a surprised birthday party would be justifiable enough, but itâ??s not set in stone yet.â? â??Okay.â? She smiles again. â??Iâ??m pretty excited!!â? â??Iâ??m EXCITED for you!â? I point at her. As kids ran around with kites or splashed in the water, some greeted me and asked about my leg. â??Man that was pretty badass!â? One of them tells me. â??That was super-uber cool!! I mean not being crushed by a horse, but by taking it like a man.â? â??Well thanks!â? I say. â??Everyoneâ??s splashing in the pool. I doubt you wanna do all that, but, wanna take a walk?â? Nick had undressed into his swimming trunks. I sigh. â??Thatâ??s not PDA,â? Nick whispers. â??Walking off with you is close enough.â? â??Come on Lyric, weâ??ll blend in. Donovan doesnâ??t control your every move.â? â??But his opinion matters.â? He sighs, â??But does mine too?â? â??Of course it does! Why donâ??t I just get my feet wet first? Help me out my shorts first?â? I joke. â??Oh, Iâ??d be more than happy to!â? â??Put on sunscreen?â? â??Actuallyâ?¦no I forgot to.â? He takes my hand and leads us to an empty seat. Let me put some on your left leg at least,â? then as he walks away to find my lotion, I grab a water bottle, gurgled with it, just in case if I needed it, then I spit it out. I even rubbed it on my lips ferociously until he sees me again. â??What are you doing?â? he playfully says. â??Iâ??m not doing anything.â? â??I guess this canâ??t be considered PDA,â? he whispers with a smile. After he was done, I did my arms and face. â??What about your back?â? â??Oh youâ??re pushing it!â? I say. â??Make it quick.â? I decide. We werenâ??t in the general eye view of everyone else. â??Letâ??s go.â? â??Iâ??ll put your lotion up first.â? â??Meet you there,â? I say. But since I wasnâ??t swimming, I kept my bathing suit covered. â??Even with your bathing suit covered, Iâ??m still highly attracted. Just the MYSTERY of what youâ??re wearing intrigues me.â? â??Iâ??m sure it would Nick.â? I just kept splashing my feet in the water with my head bowed. Then I decided to sit down on the bank a little as I watched Nick play in the water a little. â??I guess youâ??ll feel better if we get our walk out the way now.â? â??Well, thereâ??s a lot of rocks. We could hide.â? â??Then thatâ??s what I was saying,â? Nick smiles at me. Once I stand up, we begin to climb over some of the sandy turf. â??Watch your step.â? He tells me. I had on my Converses now as he was in his â??guy flip flopsâ?. Though I tried not to, were holding hands. â??Another reason I chose this beach is because I wanted some privacy for me and you.â? â??Ahhh, so there we go!â? â??But even before I knew were going to â??be togetherâ?? I chose this beach because I thought it was creative.â? I suddenly sit down. â??Youâ??re okay? Is your leg fine?â? â??Yeah.â? Nick sits with me. â??I just wanted to sit and talk,â? I pat his thigh. â??Why January 4th for a beach party?â? â??Well originally it was New Yearâ??s Eve, but everyone had plans, and Sam needed me to watch Tobey because she knew I didnâ??t have plans. I thought everyone had plans, but then you came overâ?¦.I just chose a day that I knew everyone didnâ??t have plans.â? â??So what, you just decided to throw a party?â? â??Pretty much. A New Yearâ??s Day party. Thatâ??s all.â? I play in my hair a little. Then I put my head on his chest. â??My birthdayâ??s in a month.â? â??Yeah?â? â??February 1st.â? â??Oh yeah, youâ??re one of those special people who has a birthday on the first of the month. Seventeenâ?¦whoah.â? â??Wanna know what I want for a special gift?â? I hope heâ??s not being shallow right now. â??I hope youâ??re not being shallow right now.â? He laughs. â??Ohmigosh, not THAT Lyric, if thatâ??s what you were thinking. I just wanted to hang out with my girlfriend. Just to have a special dinner or something.â? Then he gets quiet â?¦â??That gives me an idea.â? Then he leans us back and kisses me in the mouth. â??What is it?â? I smiled. â??Itâ??ll make up for me not getting you a Christmas present.â? â??Are you sure about that?â? When he looks confused, I looked down, then he smiles. â??And YOU call me the naughty one.â? â??Ohmigosh, stop tickling me! And why weâ??re talking, â??girlfriendâ???!â? â??Oh no, not that again. Yes, youâ??re damn skippyâ??girlfriend. And I mean it.â? I look down. â??I donâ??t think Iâ??d call it that.â? â??Sssh,â? he suddenly says. Two of our friends were walking over us. When they finally passed, Nick relaxes again, but I get off his lap. â??Got my clothes damp.â? â??Theyâ??ll dry in the wind.â? â??Yâ??all can finally eat.â? â??I was wondering where â??ole Lyric and Nick went.â? Donovan says as he hands me some potato chips. â??We were just walking her leg off.â? â??How is it anyway? I meant to ask you but I was talking about myself.â? He laughs as he squats down and checks out my leg. â??Itâ??s doing better. My doctor said I had a strong leg, I just have to take things very easy.â? â??Do you have a little leg wrist you wear?â? â??Uhâ?¦even if I havenâ??t seen it yet, Iâ??m sure I have one.â? I laugh. Then Donovan rubs my leg again, kisses it, then stands up with a smile. â??Tell me what you want to eat? Give your leg a rest!â? â??Actually I was going to fix it.â? Small pause. â??You gave her leg a walk. Let me fix her food,â? Donovan laughs. â??Actually, I got it.â? â??Youâ??re sure?â? â??Umm hmm. â??Scuse me.â? I get around Austin to fix some food. We were sitting in a circle as we ate. Patricia leaned on Austin. I didnâ??t see Prodigy, so Danielle leaned on no one. Sherry was sitting back-to-back with Quinn. So I just sat down beside Danielle. But then since no one was to my left, Donovan sits in that empty spotâ??probably before Nick wouldâ??ve. He kisses my cheek then begins to dig into his coleslaw. I knew that why I was sitting by him, I was going to be awkward, so I just talked to Danielle and did my best not to make it seem obvious that I was excluding him from the conversation. â??Whatâ??s wrong?â? he whispered. I just shake my head then laugh at Danielleâ??s joke. When Donovan wraps his arm around my waist, and Nick sits across from us, I couldnâ??t take it again. â??Excuse me,â? I abruptly say. Then I throw my food away and watch the other people dance. Donovan eventually gets over there and sensually eyeballs me. â??Can I have this dance?â? â??Yeah,â? I scratch my head, â??sure.â? After â??Love Donâ??t Live Here Anymoreâ? goes off, I try walking away. â??Hey, can we talk?â?â?? â??Donovan,â? I try not to exasperate. â??Itâ??s getting dark now, so I need to speak with you before itâ??s get too dark. Walk with me like you did with Nick earlier?â? he nods his head in Nickâ??s direction. I look off to the side real quick, â??Uh yeah. Sure.â? He offers his hand so I take it. â??Letâ??s not go too far in the dark though,â? I tell him frightfully. I thought about Dylan Cooper and how he messed up my truth. â??Sure, sure.â? He tells me. â??See I havenâ??t cut my hair yet,â? he plays in it for a second. I smile. â??Iâ??ve been thinking about the aerospace thingyâ??â? â??Your military career? I mean your POSSIBLE military career?â? â??Yeah, yeah that.â? â??What about it?â? He stops our walking, then holds my hands. â??What do YOU think about it?â? â??Well how will I know, damn Donovan, Iâ??ve never dated anyone in the military. Of course I never want you to leave..â? He stops our walking again, and it feels that heâ??s looking RIGHT into my soul because his eyes began to reflect mine. Then he tries to kiss me again. I was thinking, You donâ??t want to kiss me. â??Are you okay today?â? I stop in our tracks, â??Iâ??m just distracted today Donovan.â? â??I thought we were good after our phone call.â? Itâ??s been a week Donovanâ?¦things have been changing. â??Did you and your brother enjoy Canada?â? He sighs, â??My brother didnâ??t even go to Canada.â? â??Why not?â? â??I really donâ??t know. He just does his own thingâ?¦like me.â? I just nod my head and keep it hung. â??How did YOU spend New Yearâ??s Eve?â? I look up to him as if he was a priest and I was about to confess. â??Um nothing, I just, I just stayed at the house. BORED as ever!â? â??Well I thought about you. I know I sounded harsh about Canada, but I wish you were on the plane with me. I wouldâ??ve paid for your ticket.â? He steals a kiss then. â??I love you.â? he leans in again and kisses me in the mouth. After that he says, â??I love you, I love you, I LOVE YOU!â? â??Stop it.â? â??Before we get back to our friends, I wanted to ask you, do you still want to go to the JROTC Ball with me?â? â??When is it?â? â??January 27th.â? â??..I donâ??t know.â? â??What do you mean you donâ??t know? The first time I asked you were more than HAPPY to say yeah.â? But you donâ??t know about Nick yet! Not that I would WANT you to!! I rub the back of my neck, â??Umm, I might be having something going on that weekendâ?¦um, Iâ??ll have to see.â? â??Well okay.â? â??Come here,â? I kiss his neck, then I take his hand until I see we encounter the teens again. â??You know, I wouldâ??ve driven you out here, but since Nick invited you and this was his event, he said he would.â? â??Ohâ?¦yeah.â? I look away again. Donovan frowns momentarily. Then he leans down and gives me one more soft peck. â??Hey Indian boy, time to tell stories around the campfire!â? â??That is so insensitive of you Max!â? I say. Then I see Jerome for the first time. â??Where the heck have you been?â? â??Trying to flirt with Danielle,â? he jokes. â??Well good luck.â? When all of us were grouped around the fire, Nick made sure to sit by me. We told about how weâ??ve spent the holidays so far, and I couldnâ??t get out of telling them a little about what went on in Hawaii. Then Donovan tried telling a spooky tale about when he was in Canada. Obviously he was making up as he was talking. While he had us half intrigued, because we were roasting marshmallows, everyone seemed interested in what he was saying. Everyone but Nick that is. For one, he had his arm around my shoulders. â??Think you can wrap up the rest of this party? I have to get Lyric home.â? â??Yeah, sure Nick.â? Then Donovan pulls me in and when he tries kissing me, I hug him. â??Iâ??m just shy,â? I whisper in his ear. â??Iâ??m about to leave yâ??all.â? â??Yeah, Iâ??m about to take Lyric home.â? â??Seems like Donovan would do that for her. Hmm, seems like someone has the hots for my friend!â? I wrap my arm around Nickâ??s waist, then he puts his arm around my shoulder and he playfully pecks my hair. â??You have no idea!â? Then as we wave them bye, Nick reminds me to call my dad. â??Oh yeah, thanks.â? â??Want me to get your bags?â? â??Yeah. What a sweetheart!â? â??Iâ??ll be waiting up for yâ??all. The porch light will be on.â? Before I get back into the jeep, I gurgle again with an unopened bottle of Listerine I got from Austin. I did that about five times. Then I put on some ChapStick. Boy, the struggle! When I got in the jeep, Nick had the music playing low. â??I forgot the damn roses again. You forgot these when you left the other day.â? I smiled as Nick handed me the roses from two days ago. â??I had my mom help me take good care of them.â? â??Whatâ??s your momâ??s name?â? â??Anne.â? â??Well tell Mama Anne I said thank you.â? â??Okay,â? he laughs, â??and since this is the first date, and I ALWAYS kiss on the first date,â? he leans me into him, and kisses me. â??Your mouth tastes like Listerine!â? he laughs after we catch our breath. â??And if we donâ??t leave now then you WONâ??T taste the rest of my Listerine lips.â? â??Yes maâ??am!â? Before he backs out, he asks me if Iâ??ve done my â??potty breakâ?. â??Yes, and you?â? â??Just making sure,â? he smiles. A light rain starts, but I was feeling SOâ?¦so conflicted about the visit from M.J., and the kisses from Donovan, even thoughâ?¦even though I was sort of feeling Nick right now. So thatâ??s when the song I was creating in Hawaii came back to mind againâ?¦*â?Set Fire to the Rainâ?. Because of that, I created the second verse. It just REMDINS me of rain and dark, dark colors. When I felt a tear dribble down my cheek, I wiped it away. But they KEPT coming, so then I had started sniffling. â??Youâ??re awfully quiet over there,â? Nick lays his hand on my knee again. Since I know I donâ??t have to hide HALF of the truth from him, I let him see my tears. â??Itâ??s just hard so smile around Donovan when I know the truthâ?¦it just hurts. Heâ??s forgiven me WAAAY too much. And now Iâ??m with you.â? Well thatâ??s what I WANTED to tell Nick, but I just shake my head, giggle a little, then kiss his cheek. â??Why are YOU being so quiet? Youâ??re shy around me?â? He kisses me. â??Hmm, something like that. When we finally get back to Encino, Nick says, â??Record time! We have about thirty minutes.â? â??Yeah.â? â??Guess Iâ??ll get you HOME now.â? â??â?¦Or we could spend some of that time together.â? â??Yeah?â? â??You know you wanna.â? He shrugs. â??We can pull over in a parking lot.â? â??Like before?â? â??Like before.â? â??Nick, I was being sarcastic.â? â??I know, but I donâ??t have any better ideas.â? He parks into a K-Mart. And Lord and behold, â??At Lastâ? comes on the radio again. â??Guess thatâ??s a sign!â? he whispers before leaning in and kissing me full on. It was sort of like that disturbing notion that a person was back a lot of lust from you. Because once my head was laying on the passengerâ??s seat, that was a wrap. With my legs on either side of him, and my fingers were lost in his hair, I couldnâ??t help moaning a few times. Then he put his hand on my waist. It made it seemed like Nick was working hard to make BOTH of us happy. â??Here, now itâ??s your turn.â? He flips us over. Now I was looking down at him. â??Go ahead. I wonâ??t judge you.â? I roll my eyes, then I lean down and kiss him behind the ear. â??Oh youâ??ve REALLY done it now,â? he leans up and begins to kiss my chest. â??Umm, Nick,â? I bite my lip, â??This feels REAL good, but probably too good. Slow down for me, will ya?â? He goes up and greedily kisses me again. â??Your peppermint perfume tastes delicious.â? He whispers. â??Itâ??s 11:15.â? â??Mmm, are you sure?â? he says through our kisses. â??Well Iâ??m surely not lying. You can check the time yourself.â? So he does. â??Why so soon? Why is it always so soon?â? â??11:16.â? â??Okay bae.â? He buttons up his shirt and ties my netted shirt for me before kissing me again. â??11:18.â? â??Okay, okay!â? â??There you see, we got here at 11:26.â? He leans in again for us to peck. â??You know my dad might want to see you again so you might as well follow me in.â? â??Not like Iâ??ll be able to kiss you.â? I smile cutely, â??I know.â? As I use my key, Nickâ??s breathing through his nose tickles my neck. â??Iâ??m baaack!â? â??And itâ??s,â? Dad checks his watch, â??11:28. Nice timing it sir.â? He shakes Nickâ??s hand. â??Yes sir, it was fun.â? After asking about how it went, Dad says, â??Well I wonâ??t hold you any longer young man. I guess Iâ??ll see you in the future.â? â??If Lyric needs me to take her to school or something.â? He shakes Dadâ??s hand again, and we give the best friendly hug we could muster. He couldnâ??t take in my scent or something like he wouldâ??ve, or rested his chin on my shoulder. But he did whisper, â??Call me.â? â??By the way, have anyone told you you look like Mick Jagger?â? Dad says before closing the door. â??Dad that was a little rude.â? â??Well he does!â? then Dad just smiles at me. â??What?â? â??I think Mr. Jagger is a little sweet on you.â? â??Oh good NIGHT Dad!â? â??By the way Lyric, I noticed he has a tattoo of an outline of a star on the inner-bicep of his left arm. I bet he didnâ??t know I noticed.â? But after all the times Iâ??ve kissed Nick, and even today when he was swimming some, I never noticed the tattoo then! â??Are you sure?â? â??Well Iâ??m not making it up. I was just wondering if youâ??ve noticed.â? â??Hmm, well no until you said something. Why?â? â??No reason.â? But he was still â??lookingâ? at me. â??Youâ??re still looking at me.â? â??Well Iâ??m sorry. Good night.â? He hugs me with one arm, then kisses the top of my head. â??Good night.â? &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Thanks for the support yâ??all! And thereâ??s a reason behind Michaelâ??s absences.
