Tough Love Part 98
Chapter 98 Not Glitz and Glamour After waking up the next morning, I went to the kitchen where breakfast was still being prepared. â??Just thought youâ??d like breakfast this December morning.â? â??Gee, you still wonâ??t be able to say that for long.â? I say as I sit on the couch along with him. â??It IS December 30th isnâ??t it?â? I nod my head matter-of-factly and he copies me before smiling and showing his teeth. â??Got any new plans for 1979?â? Michaelâ??s question caught me off guard. â??Uh yeahâ?¦Iâ??m supposed to be taking the SATsâ?¦and excelling to the twelfth grade. Umâ?¦Iâ??m supposed to be growing,â? Michaelâ??s brows shrug, â??as a person.â? I point at him so heâ??d believe me. â??I mean what about you? I know you have some things to do. What about your album?â? â??Ohâ?¦I canâ??t wait to get it released. But I only started working on it this month.â? â??Got any songs done?â? I smile and bite my lip. â??You BET I do!â? Michael does the same. â??But I think that baconâ??s ready. I can smell it on the stove.â? â??Hey, before you go,â? I get Michaelâ??s wrist. â??Yeah?â? â??ARE you a vegetarian?â? â??Why? What do you mean?â? â??Well when I was talking with your brother he said that all that fried food probably triggered more of yâ??alls acne and I mean I just wanted to know.â? Michael walks closer to me, takes a breath and says, â??Lyric, I just said that. But I didnâ??t think youâ??d BELIEVE me.â? â??So you were just kidding? I mean Iâ??m not saying being a vegetarian is wrong. I just wanna, you know, well know.â? Michael just snickers under his breath. â??Lyric I was just funning with you.â? â??Michael that isnâ??t funny.â? I playfully shove him in the stomach. â??Plus next time you do something like you did last night, donâ??t worry about the mouthwash. I think I just rather taste your real food. That mouthwash nearly put me in a toxic coma.â? I pushed him for saying that. â??Iâ??ve heard youâ??ve gotten tired of eggs and grits, so I fixed you bacon, muffins, oatmeal, fruit. I can even fix you some sausageâ??and thatâ??s coming from someone whoâ??s supposed to be a â??vegetarianâ??.â? â??Well if youâ??ve lead me to believe you are one Michaelâ??â? â??Iâ??m just kidding Lyric. Stop taking what I say for face value.â? He says as he pulls my seat out for me and kisses my cheek. But I grab his chin and get him on the mouth. Michael walks away like that didnâ??t happen. â??Iâ??m assuming you want everything and some orange juice too.â? â??Michael I was going to get up and fix my plate.â? â??I got it. What do you want?â? â??Everything.â? â??Including sausage?â? â??No sausage.â? I did my best to be civilized. I really did. But Michael was looking irresistible. He wasnâ??t even saying much, but that just added to his mystique. â??No telling what Newman is going to think of your leg. You might just be jinxing its progress.â? While he was saying that, I picked up my plate and forced my way on his lap. At first I thought Michael wouldâ??ve been irritated or uncomfortable, but he let me stay there. In fact, he wrapped one of his arms securely around my waist. When he finished, I leaned down and kissed him. â??Uck, we just ate. Do you want to be tasting all that breakfast.â? â??Mmm, I just wanted you to taste my oatmeal.â? I laughed as I got up and grabbed our dishes to start washing them. While I was still washing them, Newman came. â??Sheâ??s washing dishes Doc, so sorry about that.â? â??Aha! I caught her up on her leg again.â? I turn around and smile with my mouth closed innocently. â??Hello Doctor Newmanâ?¦â? â??Donâ??tâ??chu â??Hello Doctor me.â?? Why donâ??t you come sit on the couch with me so I can check your leg again.â? Though sometimes it took me some effort, I was able to impress Dr. Newman. â??Howâ??s that?â? I had just sat down again. With his hands clasped, Dr. Newman takes a deep breath. â??Well Lyric, you didnâ??t know this, but I was in that little café place last nightâ??Sandlerâ??s Café or Shop or something like that. And I saw you perform and perform and perform. I know you didnâ??t know I was there because you wouldâ??ve ran off the stage had you known.â? I sheepishly smile. â??And I saw you WORK that cast. Youâ??ve impressed me and I know youâ??re despising it.â? â??â?¦Well.â? â??So I wanted to ask you if you wanted to wear a smaller sprain instead?â? â??â?¦You meanâ?¦I got that option NOW?!â? â??If you want to. Only if you want to.â? â??I havenâ??t even had my leg in this sprain for a week. I got here about a week ago.â? â??Well youâ??ve seemed ready. I didnâ??t want to tell you that youâ??re leg wasnâ??t as bad as I was making it; I just wanted you to take me seriously.â? â??..I guess Iâ??ll have it off.â? â??I mean itâ??s just a lot smaller than what youâ??ve been wearing for the past week.â? â??Well letâ??s get this thing off then. Iâ??m assuming itâ??ll take a while.â? â??Not that longâ?¦Iâ??ve done this before.â? Dr. Newman mustâ??ve been confident about me being ready to have my cast off because he brought what he needed for my back up support. â??Doctor, I canâ??t thank you enough!! I really donâ??t want to tell you good bye.â? â??Youâ??ll see me again: I promise.â? â??HOW?!â? I turn quickly to Michael, â??Michaelâ??s going to have us meet each other again?â? â??Weâ??ll just have to see what life does to us as we go on our journey Alaric.â? I hug him again. â??Thatâ??s not good enough for me, Doc.â? â??Trust me Lyric, I have that feeling in my gut.â? He kisses my cheek. And as he shakes Michael hand, he says, â??You should really listen to her Michael. She has a nice stage presence.â? I bit down on my teeth. I REEAALLY donâ??t want Michael to keep hearing this. Michaelâ??s expression doesnâ??t change so Iâ??m fine with that. â??Iâ??ll see you two later.â? He points at Michael. â??Call me if you have any questions. And you,â? he points directly at me, â??take it easy. Donâ??t have any more horses falling on your leg.â? THAT made us laugh. *â??Just knowing my luck, itâ??ll be man to do this; not animal.â? Dr. Newman just shakes his head. â??See you guys later.â? And he does one single wave, but we kept waving as he was leaving in his car. â??Did you pay him the bill?â? â??Yeah. I did while we were in the kitchen. You were checking out your leg.â? â??Ohâ?¦â? â??Trust me. I GOT this Lyric.â? â??Well yeah, I guess so.â? For a while, I practiced with my crutches and even used the wall for support. The color on my legâ??blue, purple, red, and blackâ??had faded a reasonable amount although itâ??s still there. Also, my cast was a little more discreet, so I could handle it. I bumped into Michael while I was looking down. â??Feeling better hunh?â? â??I guess a little.â? I take a breath of frustration. â??I just still have to take that medicine. My leg around that area still hurts.â? â??I know it does. Why donâ??t you take a break?â? He lets me get his hand and I sat down in the seat not too far from the door. He also elevated my leg. Michael moved one of the kitchen chairs beside my seat and he sits there. â??You know, if you need to talk to me about your break up Iâ??ll be your ear.â? â??Donâ??t even TALK to me about him. I broke up with that boy for a reason.â? â??Wait YOU broke up with him?â? â??No he broke up with me. Iâ??m just saying that because at the end of the day, weâ??re broken up. No more M.â??I mean â??Marvin and Lyricâ??. So you donâ??t have to worry about me becoming Alaric Levi.â? â??I never said you would.â? â??Well either wayâ?¦thereâ??s no more usâ?¦ â??But you know, Iâ??m not sure if I should be relieved or totally broken down. He is sexist, problematic, greedy, mannish. But then he can be gentle, sensual, sensitive. Even giving. You saw his Christmas presents he gave me Michael.â? â??So what? He gave you all of that and now yâ??all broken up. I have given you so much stuff, but I donâ??t treat you that way.â? I can sense that sharpness in Michaelâ??s tone. â??But heâ??s just a misguided-emotionally underprivileged kid. Michael, his dad isnâ??t there for him emotionally. All I know about his mom is thought she was left to raise him and now she lives up North somewhere. I donâ??t know much about her, but heâ??s close to his stepmom.â? â??Lyric that doesnâ??t give him the excuse to treat you the way he has.â? â??But he knows what he wants. Heâ??s responsible, and thoughtfulâ??pretty much open-minded. He gets shy, EASILY, sometimes. I guess heâ??s thinking I havenâ??t noticed, but his nose turns red. I mean when heâ??s in the room with me, itâ??s hard to remember anyone else is in the room with us. I feel like my feet arenâ??t touching the clouds or the ground.â? â??Then how did he get in your room? You told him? Or did he just do it himself?â? â??Michael it isnâ??t important. I probably over-reacted with things that werenâ??t even that serious. And as another note, I just didnâ??t regard our safety or sanity. I mean it was only a month Michael. Almost two months. So why are you so concerned? It doesnâ??t even matter.â? â??Because I could tell you really liked him.â? â??Then thatâ??s his own damn fault. He just ended things so our feelings canâ??t continue. I was affectionate OF him up to he just sliced things. Now it feels like this slate of steel is blocking my heart and any further feelings.â? â??Well it takes one day at a time.â? Not when itâ??s a daily reminder when I see him at school. And then his loud-ass presence. I roll my eyes. â??Itâ??s his loss Lyric.â? Michael shrugs. â??That donâ??t make me feel better. That dumb quote NEVER makes me feel better. itâ??s just selling you false advertisement.â? â??Then stop thinking about him because HEâ??S false advertisement.â? I shook my head. â??Soooâ?¦what did my brother tell you about my family?â? I smile. â??A lot of stuff Michael.â? â??Likeâ?¦?â? I slowly get up. â??Well?â? I just shrug. I really got the chance to test out my leg some when I find two hidden water guns and I spray him. so we ended up having a mini-water gun fight. I began thinking that I needed to get Ray Ray a gift. I was going to show up at his party whether Marvin liked it or not. But man, how can I top him with the gift HE gave me? Well you match art with art right? So that when I tell Michael I wanted to go back to that place art place we had went to the other day. â??Whatâ??s making you want to go there?â? â??I just got to make a present for someone. I have a birthday party to go to soonâ?¦WITH my friends.â? â??Hey, I didnâ??t say anything.â? â??But I knew you were THINKING,â? and yes the â??thinkingâ?? part was in air quotes. â??Well letâ??s go. Letâ??s see if she still has â??Richardâ?? on display.â? â??Well letâ??s go see.â? And in honor of Ray Ray, I wore my purple goggles on my head like Iâ??ve seen him wear his. I also had a dark gray shirt and the heart on the front is indigo with some shorts. â??Donâ??t ask.â? I had the goggles pushed under my short hair. â??But I should be asking whereâ??s Fernando?!â? â??Heâ??ll be here in five minutes.â? â??WHAT?!â? â??Heâ??s not sick anymore.â? So when Fernando got here, I got in the limo, but hugged his neck through the window. â??I thought you were a goner,â? I dramatically say. He just laughs. â??Where to my darlings?â? â??Aolani Ionaâ??s arts and crafts place, please,â? Michael says. â??So what are you plan on creating this time?â? â??Umm, Iâ??m not sure. I wanted to create something very creative. Umm, the unexpected. You see itâ??s for a friendâ??s gift.â? â??They already having a birthday?â? â??Yeah, right after Christmas. And you see they did this portrait of me so I need to do something for them.â? â??What do they like?â? â??Goggles.â? And I point at the ones Iâ??m wearing. â??And purple?â? â??Right!â? I point. Even if she was being funny, she was right. â??But I donâ??t want to paint a portrait of purple goggles though.â? I have neither the time NOR the desire to do all that. â??Unless you want to give him what you already created.â? Sadly, I had THOUGHT of that, but I didnâ??t really want to do that. Plus how can I present a huge â??Richardâ?? in-front of a group of teenagers? Right, I know that sounds wrong. â??Well letâ??s go see how he turned out.â? I didnâ??t wanna, but Aolani grabbed my wrist. â??I donâ??t remember seeing it this way when it dried up.â? â??Since you thought it was sooo inappropriate, I went back and did some constructing it to make it look like house furniture.â? â??Wellâ?¦â? I tilt my head. It was still that beige color. â??It DOES look different and will outsize HIS gift. Iâ??ll take it.â? â??Thatâ??ll be twenty bucks.â? â??What?â? â??Iâ??m just kidding Lyric.â? â??Well when were you going to tell us you had changed the art?â? â??Hmmâ?¦I donâ??t know. I wasnâ??t even expecting to see yâ??all so soon again.â? She smiles. â??Who is the friend? Patricia or Sherry? Danielle?â? â??No. A friend named Ray Ray.â? â??Another boy?â? Michael mumbles. â??Hey, I met him through you-know-who. And plus my friends know them. Actually one of mine is dating his.â? â??Oh.â? I was content with the gift I was going to give Ray Ray because I knew it was different, although a bit weird. But I know heâ??d understand that I was giving him this since he gave me something so artistic. Who says you always have to pay for gifts? â??I know you havenâ??t gotten the Hawaii experience like I planned.â? â??Yeah?â? â??So weâ??re going out tonight.â? Michael showed me what weâ??d be wearing. The clothes were lying on his bed. â??Thatâ??s IF you want to wear it.â? â??No Michael. Itâ??s a simple dress. For once something simpleâ??not all glitz and glamour. Thatâ??s probably why Iâ??m going to wear it.â? Then I smile at him. It doesnâ??t take me long to get ready. I was just surprised when I saw Jermaine walk into the building and sit with us. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% *By the way: I learned that Michael became a vegetarian but it was later on so in 1978, he was still eating on a lesser strict diet, and his skin wasnâ??t as clear like it was in the early â??80s. Also, I learned that Ray Ray might really be 17 right now. Itâ??s just that on a lot of Internet sources, it says he was born in 1997, so I wasnâ??t sure :) -But more to come and thank you for the votesâ??Aariyan
