Blackout 1
I settled on the comfortable couch, the last piece of furniture in the room besides the television and a table. I grabbed the remote control from the side table and flipped through the channels. I found the show Drake & Josh and just tossed the remote aside. Grabbing the hot chocolate cup, I interwined my fingers on the hot surface, taking a sip. It was really cold outside. It was the middle of October, yet here in Chicago the coldness took over in late September. I shuddered. “Darling, me and your dad are going out for a while. We have a lot of things we need to do before we finish shipping the furniture to our new home,” I heard Mom say from the kitchen. Sighing, I put the mug aside and got up from the couch heading over to the kitchen. The house seemed so empty… like a cave. The walls were plain white… no photo frames or clocks.. the rooms were empty… just casts of sunlight coming in through the no-longer-covered windows.. Me and my family were moving to a different neighborhood here in Chicago… a sad event that would soon fill my life with despair and unhappiness, not to mention.. I'd have to leave my friends and neighbors. As soon as I entered the kitchen, I found my mom rapidly run around the kitchen, grabbing silverware and plates and putting them into a bag. I leaned across the doorframe of the soon-to-be empty kitchen. “Mom, take a break. You've been like this for hours.” “Samantha, I can't stop. We have a lot of things to get done. We promised the people that are buying the house that we'd have the house empty for tomorrow night.” Tucking a strand of light brown hair behind her ear, Mom strandled across the kitchen. My Mom is a University Of Southern California graduate. She's a real estate agent. Most of the time, she looks really fancy in her business suit. But now, in her gray shirt, violet sweatpants and violet jacket, she looked a mess. I guess this move isn't affecting me only..
