Tough Love Part 91; Part 2
Chapter 91; Part 2 Helping Others â??Why are you still looking so low?â? I thought I had changed my face by the time I walked towards the gingerbread houses. â??Iâ??m just thinking.â? â??Well,â? he looks at me so I already knew what was going to come out of his mouth, â??stop thinking. This isnâ??t a time for you to be thinking and just DOING Alaric.â? â??Okay, well after we do this, weâ??re going to talk about you.â? When he looks confused, I say, â??Un-huh, you know.â? With Christmas songs playing, I ask him why he didnâ??t have the tree set up yet; he said he hadnâ??t gotten to it. â??I thought youâ??d think maybe because Iâ??m a Jehovah, I wouldnâ??t even TOUCH a tree, but no, thatâ??s not the case. I even thought about you setting it up with me. But itâ??s going to get done.â? â??No rush. Thereâ??s no rush,â? though the tree DID need to be set up pretty soon. My gingerbread house came out a little better than it has in the past, but of course Michaelâ??s looked a lot better than mine. That caused me to shake my head. â??Even when I DO try, youâ??re always better than me. Are you consumed with perfection?â? â??No, not at all. Iâ??m just an artist, literally.â? â??Well it DOES look tasty. Can I get a jelly bean?â? â??Letâ??s take a picture of it first.â? So I take one of him as heâ??s leaning on the counter, smiling by his. Then he takes one with me as my elbows are leaning on the counter. I was facing away from my gingerbread as my head was thrown back a little. â??Girl, youâ??re a trip.â? â??Hey, itâ??s around seven, do you want some dinner?â? â??Yeah.â? â??What do you want?â? â??Candy.â? â??CANDY?! Michael youâ??re going to get cavities on those perfect teeth. You shouldâ??ve gotten a sweet tooth from even dealing with the gingerbreads. Youâ??re going to turn your stomach from that frosting you ate.â? â??Water is the key to everything.â? And he goes in the fridge and drinks from an already opened bottle. â??Here, catch.â? And throws one at me. I catch it and drink some since he basically wants me to. But itâ??s a good habit to keep up with. I cook a simple stove top meal, which he seems so grateful for. â??You know I enjoy your cooking.â? â??Michael, this was only a simple meal already prepared.â? â??I know what Iâ??m talking about. Iâ??m talking about all those other times when Iâ??ve had it. Itâ??s really good.â? I giggle and shrug. â??Well I do come from a long line of cooks.â? Then as a side note that I couldâ??ve kept to myself, I say, â??Being from the South, you BETTA know how to cook, or youâ??re a bit screwed unless you wanna eat popcorn all the time.â? He burst out laughing. â??TRUE southern hospitality.â? â??No, true southern jokes about the truth,â? I say. Then I start listing off the different foods, â??Cooked hog maw, chicken, turkey necks.â? I canâ??t stop laughing. â??I know all of this is kind of disgusting and I sound like a brash carnivore, but itâ??s true.â? â??I know. I understand that southern cooking.â? As I keep looking at him, Michaelâ??s eyes are just glowing as he laughs at me. â??Iâ??ll go and get my shower out the way,â? Michael tells me. After he walks out the room, I sit in the recliner, where the rocking chair was earlier today. I try concentrating on the TV until the phone rings about five minutes later. I jump out the recliner and run to the phone. I take a sharp breath, then I answer. â??Hello?!â? But it was the wrong number. So as I walk away from the phone, it rings again. I take another sharp breath and answers. â??Hello?â? â??Lyric?!â? â??Hey Jan! Whatâ??s going on?â? â??Why are you asking me this? The real question is how are things going with you and Michael?â? â??Oh the same-o same. The only difference is weâ??re in Hawaii.â? â??Has he been on his best behavior?â? â??Almost stiff like a statue. Heâ??s being a stupendous student in actuality.â? â??Well thatâ??s surprising. Say, feel me in any good dets, okay?â? â??Sure Jan. But can you tell me anything good?â? â??About what?â? â??About some of the stuff he likes to do.â? â??Well me and Michael would buy a bunch of food from this restaurant and would drive around and give the food to the needy.â? â??Seriously?â? â??Yeah.â? A smile spread across my face. â??I think I got me an idea Jan, but I just stole it from you.â? â??Youâ??re about to do it?â? â??Yep! Iâ??m going to get Michaelâ??s attention.â? â??Okay, well call me so I can know how it goes.â? â??I can get on the phone with Katherine.â? â??Oh Iâ??ll tell her.â? â??Okay. Well bye.â? â??Bye.â? And we hang up. I dash to Michaelâ??s door but he was walking out the door as well. â??Hey, I was thinking we should buy a bunch of food and give it to the homeless.â? He suddenly smiles. â??You took the words right out of my mouth.â? â??Wow! And I WONDER how you knew.â? I throw my hands on my hips. â??I overheard you and Jan.â? he laughs. â??Well we should put our shoes on and Iâ??ll call Fernando.â? Iâ??m happy that this time, we donâ??t have to wait too long for Fernando to get us. I decided we should order from McDonalds. Everyone would receive a Big Mac, a large fry, and apple pie. â??How many should we order?â? â??Around twenty. We donâ??t know if a lot of people will be out tonight.â? We only spent a little over a hundred dollars, but I still feel we spent a rather amount, and especially for its cause. Whenever we saw someone, weâ??d tentatively tell the person we bought multiple dinners that night, and wanted to feed them. But it really broke my heart when I saw a family out there. I couldnâ??t take the mother being the protector and provider out there alone, so we gave the family two meals. I started crying once we got in the limo again. â??How can this HAPPEN to people?!â? I kept saying. Michael held me close as my shoulders start to rock from my massive revelation. â??You get used to helping people after a while. You just have to grow stronger.â? I try to stop my crying. â??Well I canâ??t. This isnâ??t normal, Michael.â? I go in my pocket and find my twenty. I stare down at it, then I kiss it. â??God bless her if she isnâ??t on drugs and will do right with this.â? I knock on the window and make Fernando turn back around. I take a deep breath, then I look to see if the family is still there. They are. I know this isnâ??t a time for me to be all nervous and shy, so I speak through my throat, which is starting to cluster with saliva. â??I wanted to give you this. And Iâ??m REALLY trusting you to make a rational decision with it.â? I hand her the bill. â??Here, take it. Itâ??s okay.â? She slowly grabs for it. â??God bless you,â? she whispers. â??He already has. Now Iâ??m blessing you.â? I smile at her. Then I smile at the kids right before I turn away because I canâ??t stand to see them this way. â??Come on, letâ??s call you aunt and see if she can come get us.â? I hear the woman say. She sounds happy, so Iâ??m trusting God that she and her children was safe that night, and will be beyond then. As I close the limo door behind me and look at Michaelâ??s expression, his eyes are big and his mouth is shaped in an â??oâ?. â??You REALLY put your neck on the line doing that.â? â??I just canâ??t stand to see that Michael.â? I shake my head. â??Nun-uh.â? Then I sit there for a moment. I hope God forgives me for not trusting Him one hundred percent. â??Michael, I want to make sure that woman and her kids are safe. I canâ??t take this. Fernando, turn the limo around.â? He turns the limo around and when I saw the trio in a restaurant. I see the woman, her daughter, and her older son smiling. Then I saw this other woman. She was talking rapidly to the woman. When I was about to jump out the limo, the mother shakes her head and smiles at me. It seems that smile was from God, and it felt trustworthy. And when she gives me the thumbs up, I return it to her. â??That was a family out there?â? â??Duh Michael.â? I almost canâ??t believe he didnâ??t know that was a family. After this incident, we simply want to go to the beach house. â??Are we going to set up the Christmas tree?â? â??Let me see if I can get it,â? he smiles while he walks away. I let out a quick breath while I start to smile. I take off my shoes and start playing Christmas records. Then I walk over to the phone and manage to call the Jacksons house. Iâ??m SURE Joseph had answered at first but Janet got to the phone. I told her all that had happened, and kept the woman and her childrenâ??s story for last. â??Thatâ??s really nice of you. Mother WONâ??T believe this when I tell her.â? â??Aww, it was just the right thing to do Jan. I couldnâ??t believe this woman and her kids were left out on the streets like that. I donâ??t see why thereâ??s world hunger and poverty. I just canâ??t believe it.â? There was a short pause. â??I know what you mean, Lyr.â? I hear something drop. I slowly turn around, and thereâ??s Michael standing by this tall box with the Christmas tree in it. â??Jan, Iâ??ll call you back later.â? â??Okay. Bye.â? I barely hear HER say bye, and I barely even get to say it, but I hanged up the phone anyways. I just stare at him as he grins. Then his smile falls. â??I donâ??t know if I should do thisâ?¦growing up, weâ??d NEVER do this. I just donâ??t know if I can do this.â? I cross my arms. â??No one is forcing you to Michael.â? He looks down as he unconsciously taps on the lengthy box. â??I always wanted to, though. To make a tree, to play in snowâ??other than when my brothers did roughly.â? He looks at me. â??I wanted to do those things growing up.â? â??Well Michael, I know it goes against your religion but you can just make the tree, and it doesnâ??t have to mean anything to you. If this little kid is screaming inside of you, just let him out and give yourself some closure. It doesnâ??t have to MEAN anything to you.â? He looks down again, and I try to look around the room before he makes his decision. â??Fine,â? he taps the box once as I look him in the face again. A smile spread across his face and I smile too, though I donâ??t want to admit Iâ??m happy that he chose a â??lightâ? decision; and I hate to say selfishly in my favor. â??Letâ??s do it!â? I say in a silly accent, and he tips the box over so we could dig take the branches out. â??Weâ??re going to have A LOT to vacuum once we finish with this.â? I exclaim. And as we set the tree, we sing with the Chipmunks with their signature song, â??The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Donâ??t Be Late)â?. â??I LOVE these guys! Man I miss â??The Alvin Showâ??.â? Michael laughs at me. â??Youâ??re such a kid.â? â??And I think I use to like Simon. I used to laugh at little pudgy Theodore.â? â??Hey, turn on the TV. I know thereâ??s some specials on right now.â? â??Okay,â? and I do. â??Frosty the Snowmanâ? was on. â??Aww, I miss these days.â? â??Yeah?â? Michael asks. â??Once me, Mom, and Dad moved to California, we watched the TV specials, and me and Dad would watch the â??Frosty the Snowmanâ?? special over and over. We would record a bunch of stuff.â? â??You moved here in 1969?â? â??Yeah, in the summer. Why?â? â??No, Iâ??m just asking.â? â??Right before second grade,â? I smile again. Michael and I put on the different ornaments, and I couldnâ??t help BUT quietly muse over his big eyes concentrating on where he would put this emblem or that piece of decoration on the tree. â??What do you want to put on the tip of the tree?â? He grips his chin with his hand while he thinks. â??I donâ??t know. Do you have anything to put up there?â? â??No, not that I could think of,â? I shake my head. â??Well thatâ??s fine. Letâ??s just vacuum this up.â? â??Okay.â? I move the stuff out the way, we take a picture, and he starts to vacuum. â??I think itâ??s time for us to get our baths out the way. Iâ??ll get mine out the way.â? â??Okay,â? Michael agrees. When I walk to my room, I remember it was after ten, but I still didnâ??t get a phone call from M.J. I checked the voice-mail, and nothing was there. I take my shower and get ready for the night as fast as possible. Once I finish, I desperately search for Michael. â??Has the phone rang at all while I was in the shower?â? â??No. Why?â? â??Just asking.â? He shakes his head like heâ??s suspicious and is on my tail. â??Iâ??ll get mine out the way.â? â??Okayâ?¦.â? I sit down on the couch. Then before he gets to leave the room all the way, he sees me head for mine. The light was off in my room. I was sitting comfortably under my covers as I watched TV without much of an expression. I know I was actually looking a little dead in the eyes, and I was getting a little tired. A light knock, then my door opens. I blink from the bright light of the hall, and Michael turns it off real quick, so I donâ??t have the best vision of him. â??Want to watch some TV in my roomâ?¦and just sit and talk?â? I look down at my thighs as they were covered with the comforter. â??I mean if you donâ??t want toâ?¦â? â??I do.â? â??Only if you have the energy.â? â??Iâ??m going to Michael.â? I look at him pointedly. I reach my arms out to him, and Iâ??m glad he grabs my hands because that was my intentionâ??for him to help pull me up by my hands and not pick me up like I was his bride. Was I nervous to be going to his room? Yeah. This was his first time inviting me, but it was a relief to know he didnâ??t mean any malice with it. Stepping into his room, it had sorta the same vibe like mineâ??with the TV on and the lights off. But it was a little cooler. He sits on the left side as I sit on the right, which was closest to the exit of his door. His legs were spread straight out while I folded my legs. â??Soâ?¦whatâ??chu wanna talk about?â? I curiously ask. He starts to laugh. â??Whatever you want to talk about. Acting, singing, maybe life, politics. Well donâ??t bore me with the details of the last one, but whatever. I donâ??t care.â? â??Wellâ?¦what about your early days.â? He sighs. â??You said ANYTHING Michael.â? I was about to babble on how a deal was a deal. â??Okay, I get it.â? He had to say to shut me up. But Michael still doesnâ??t say anything. â??Umâ?¦â? I play with my toenails a little. â??About your new album releasedâ?¦â? â??Yeah?â? â??Am I going to get my own copy?â? I start to smile. â??Sure. Iâ??ll even autograph it myself. You want my brothers to sign it too?â? â??Yeah! Sure, I do.â? â??Okay,â? he nods. â??But when are YOU going to release your own album?â? â??You mean my solo? As a solo artist?â? â??Yeah Michael.â? â??Itâ??s crazy for you to say that, because Iâ??ve begun working on that.â? â??Whatâ??s the concept behind it?â? â??Iâ??m not so sure yet. But I donâ??t want it to sound like a record with my brothers included. When someone hears the song, I want it to say â??Michael Jacksonâ?? and no one else.â? â??Okay â??Michael Jackson and No One Elseâ??.â? He laughs at me. After his laughing stops, I ask him another question. â??How do you think this will change you? Youâ??ll be about, what, twenty-one when you release this new project? Thatâ??s pretty young.â? â??The younger, the better.â? He looks forward. â??If I was to become freakishly famous by myself, do you think you could handle it, Lyric?â? â??What do you mean? Like in the near-future?â? â??Yeah. Like if this new, solo album was to blow up and I became a mega star, do you think you could handle everything? Like me being away a lot or the massive fans.â? â??I guessâ?¦Iâ??ll still be your friend.â? I looked at him and smiled again. He pauses as he looks at me expression, which looks trustworthy, then he hugs me. â??But can I ask you a question?â? â??Sure, what is it?â? â??Why are you so into that guy, M.J.?â? Listening to Michaelâ??s voice and picturing M.J. in my head, Michaelâ??s question was like a redundant idiom. â??Thatâ??s not a simple answer Michael.â? â??I donâ??t see how.â? â??â?¦Heâ??s so sure about himself. Besides the usual confidence, I guess he has this kind of arrogance that works for him, but at his core, I know heâ??ll cry at a sad movie.â? â??Do you know that for sure?â? â??Iâ??m just sure itâ??s true. With people like that, they may not always show their true emotions, but theyâ??re the most sensitive people at times. I think thatâ??s why Iâ??m beginning to like him so much because thereâ??s things about him Iâ??m learning about now, and I want to sit around and just see whatâ??s next.â? â??But heâ??s brash when it comes to your usual guys.â? I look at Michael. â??Thatâ??s probably why I like him now.â? Michael looks down. â??I think we click. Thatâ??s allâ?¦.But to secretly put it in perspective to you, Dad is actually happy heâ??s blackâ??well for the most part. My family knows how Iâ??m interracial-friendly, so to see me swoon over M.J. is a little calmer for Dad, but the fact that heâ??s not like youâ?¦â? I look at Michael, â??Kinda makes my dad nervous. But then Dad knows he doesnâ??t really know how YOU are, so heâ??s just nervous all over the place!â? I knew that would make Michael crack a smile, but it was true. Then I decide to ask one of MY quote-on-quote â??heavyâ? questions. I had the tendency to tell Michael the way his relationship with Tatum was being speculated is the same way heâ??s treating me now, but I save THAT for another time if I need to. â??How did you deal with dating Tatum? She was five years younger than you.â? â??I donâ??t think age was always a big difference for us. I wasnâ??t trying to be sinister with her, so our relationship felt so natural and it was like a stage-to-stage process for us.â? I donâ??t say anything while I let that soak in. â??As you can see, I havenâ??t had many of those experiences; I need to catch up with your pace.â? I raise my eyebrow and look at him. â??Oh you know what I mean,â? he drapes his arm around my shoulder. I look into his eyes, and I see a lot of honesty and innocence in them. Plus his demeanor is eager to be around me. I think itâ??s so ironic for MICHAEL out of all people to be intrigued by me. I unconsciously rub his hand. â??Iâ??m so glad Iâ??m here with you in Hawaii right now.â? He looks at me again like a shy kid. â??I really mean it Michael.â? I pick up his other hand as we mingle our fingers. He urgently kisses my forehead, but I donâ??t think he wanted to kiss me there. We talk a little more and watch some TV until he notices I can barely keep my eyes open. â??Go use the bathroom and go on to bed,â? he tells me like my grandma would. I weakly laugh, but I do exactly that. Right now, Iâ??m to bone-tired to worry about getting a phone call from M.J. ≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥≥ A surprising twist is going to come next ;-P -Aariyan :)
