Baby, I love you (Part Two)
Hi, and happy Fourth of July. If you haven't read the first part of this, I would consider to read it lol ---------------------------------------------------------------- ***Narrator's Point of View*** "Berry, give these girls a chance," Michael begged as he and Berry sat at Berry's office, discussing over coffee. "Michael, you know that I do not promote children's acts." "But, Berry, these girls are not children...they're young women. They have amazing talent, a talent like no other. Just please look at them when they audition." "But, Michael, it's all said. I am not interested," Berry said giving him a serious look. "Just..please. I'm not giving up on this." Berry sighed, "Michael..." "I would rather get a slow 'yes' instead of a fast 'no.'" Berry paused and took another intense stare at Michael. Michael did not want to give up just yet. He believed in the Harlemettes. They had the perfect and necessary talent to make it far and Michael wanted to be their manager if that dream was to become true. "I will see what kind of talent they have, since you keep pleading. I guess I wouldn't hurt," Berry said as he shrugged his shoulders. With a sigh of relief, Michael said, "Thank you, Berry." The next evening, July 17, 1961, Berry and Michael sat right before the stage, awaiting Darcy, Marilyn, and Sophia. "Michael, these girls are late," Berry told him as he raised an eyebrow. Michael replied nervously, "Oh, they'll be here in a minute. They might've ran into timing troubles." Without Berry noticing, Michael turned to his side and whispered to himself, "Girls, where are you?" His worries for the girls continued, until he heard the distinctive sounds of high heels clacking and a soft sound of mumbling. He and Berry turned their heads. "I'm sorry. we were a little late," Marilyn explained. "That is ok, girls. We were worried that you girls couldn't be able to make it," Michael said. "Hi, Sophia." His eyes immediately turned to shy young Sophia, whose eyes were as beautiful and clear as a sunset. Her sweet brown skin stood out and her beautifully shaped lips was what Michael longed after. He was just tempted to kiss and feel her lips with his fingers. Her shy persona attracted him greater than her sweet, seductive appearance did. "Um..hi," she said softly, hiding her smile with her hand. "How are you?" Michael continued with an infatuated smile. "I-I'm ok," she replied. "That's good...really good," he said not noticing that there were others in his presence. "Um...let's get on with the audition, shall we?" Michael and Berry gathered their paperwork as the Harlem- ettes got into their normal performing position. "Michael, what is it with you when you're around that one girl?" "W-What do you mean?" Michael asked, looking at him doubtfully. "I saw the way you were looking at that young woman. Now, Michael, you have to take this deal seriously and focus on the group and their talent, not how you like that girl." Michael scoffed, "Berry, I'm focused." "Ok. I just wanted to make sure that you were fully focused into this group that you wanted me to promote." The Harlemettes warmed up their voices by carrying a couple simple tunes, holding out chord notes, and singing a few simple musical scales. Then they refreshed a part of their performing song, "At Last," by Etta James. The girls' performing song was originally a solo but they created it into a trio ver- sion where they split into many chords and each had a solo part. While they sung, Michael helplessly stared at Sophia and embraced her charm and her beauty as she stood and performed like a star. Why was Michael so infatuated with this girl he barely even knew? Was he overreacting or was he falling in love with this girl? She was a shining star in his eyes and he coul- dn't take his eyes off of her astonishing beauty. She was shy when not on the peforming stage, but when she held out her voice, a different girl emerged. TBC....
