Tough Love Part 54
Thank you for Reading & Voting on the last few parts! *&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*& Chapter 54 Only Hope I couldnâ??t help the fact M.J. was probably upset with me, but why blame me? I had too many obligations anyways. Anyways, Dad didnâ??t ask who it was, he just told me what I did was unacceptable, and I canâ??t keep doing that; and when we both came to the conclusion that it was the Halloween party, but I still couldnâ??t do that. When I joked that the guy wasnâ??t interested, Dad said good and we left it at that. This Saturday, I said I would accompany Michael and his four brothersâ??excluding Jermaine, which is still correct since there are SIX males in the family. Today is also November 4th, a loved oneâ??s birthday. Michaelâ??s wearing a stripe red and navy blue long-sleeve. That IS navy blue unless Iâ??m colored-blind. I fix his white collar. â??Thanks,â? he smile over at me real quick and starts to move with the traffic once the light turns green. I must say, things have kinda been like this for us this past week: Michael does little favors for me, and I do the same. Weâ??d smile. Ironically, it seems like since the Halloween party and the next day, I felt a type of obligation to Michael, and I felt bad for ignoring him. Then Iâ??d think of Donovan and Iâ??d remember his beautiful smile and his sometimes exotic skin color. Then Iâ??d think that I need to pay attention to Michael. But right now, it doesnâ??t matter because I was with him. Michael. We drove to HIS house and carpooled with Tito and Randy. I think the manâ??s name was Dexter. Thatâ??s what Michael told me, I think. But I was amazed as we got to his house. It was pretty decent. As we got out and Dexter opened the door for us, I let out a heavenly sigh. But I was also probably the most siked to meet Dexterâ??s son, whose name I didnâ??t know. â??Come in,â? Dexter was referring to his den because thatâ??s where he led us. I was surprised to see a group of kids from various ages. â??And this is my little boy right here,â? Dexter says as he bends down and scoop up this light skin boy. Looking from the toddler to his father, I see the resemblance. From Dexterâ??s innocent face and eyes, the little boy has down to a T, so I definitely see it. While weâ??re all in the room and getting increasingly warm, Dexter decides to turn on his camera and record us. I was thinking, oh boy! It starts off with Michael looking shy and smiling as he usually does. He had just sat in the seat Dexter was seating inâ??probably Dexterâ??s personal favorite seat in this room, Iâ??m sureâ??and the little boy was placed on his lap. Now for me, Iâ??ve had a few changes over the past few days. I was in the shower one day and got my hair a little wet from the humid, so I dabbed it a little with my hand. I was starting to ruin the hairstyle, but I was capable of getting my old style back. I was happy for that, and I didnâ??t want to be defined by the new style I had explicitly for the ball. Also, I was in the corner, kind of shielded by the other kids. They were bothering Marlon, but heâ??s like a big teddy bear. Itâ??s still hard for me to comprehend heâ??s a father now! I mean, danggit, I remember having my school girl crush on him, and him being fourteen and fifteenâ??all in 1972, that isâ??and me being only nine! Well nine turning ten, butâ??chu get the point! Either way, as I see Michael holding the two-year-old, I feel a sense of warmth. Bonding with kids is a major point for me. As he laughed and smiled, I my head leaned over to the left, and I could totally see him as a father. I looked down because I felt a sense of sadness. WHEN Michael does get married, Iâ??ll react even worse than when I unexpectedly found out Marlon did. And my soul will be wiped away worse than when Jermaineâ??s publicized wedding. The camera moves on to the other brothers, so Michael and Dexterâ??s son is forgotten about. Iâ??ve moved over to the corner across the room, so now Iâ??m getting views of the kidsâ?? and the brothersâ?? backsides. But I was still sitting crouched over, leaning on my knees. Dexterâ??s son walks over to me, and is sitting on my lap, playing in my hair and such. Michael eases his way over and seats under/beside me, so itâ??s cooped up. The camera moves over to us and leave us, but Michael motions for it to capture us again, and he throw his left arm around my shoulder since heâ??s sitting to my right. â??And this is my wife, Lyric.â? He smiles broadly. I look over at him with an alert look on my face. Itâ??s scrunched up. But heâ??s looking at me with that same smile and laugh he was using when he was holding little Dexter Number Two. Now, Iâ??ve concluded this is his charming smile. â??Just joking,â? he says and the camera is directed somewhere else. I wonder what made him say it. I guess it was me being quiet with the little boy, cuddling him like I would with any other kid. The three of us were sheltered in the corner, so I wonder if it made him feel like family. When weâ??re about to leave, Iâ??m looking at some trophies and plaques Dexter happens to have in his house. Dexterâ??s son soon joins me, but with Michael holding him. Michael puts him down and the little boy holds my hand. Michael holds his. â??Like â??em?â? he asks me. â??A lot.â? I smile over at him. I havenâ??t said much today, and the fact that Michael and I was sorta silent as we looked as Dexterâ??s trophies and such didnâ??t make things better; even when he DID explain some of them to me, or just talked about them like he was my tour guide at a museum. The boys and I got some KFC and called it a day, but before my day was over, I was sitting by Michael in the booth. He was to my right. Randy was to my left. â??How was your day?â? Dad asks. â??Fine,â? I say. How DETAILED! Iâ??m just tired about my entire explanation! Let me seeâ?¦what I did Sunday other than church. Oh yeah, well after church, I remember itâ??s Tatumâ??s birthday. NOW sheâ??s fifteen. Like what the heck! But Michael also tells me itâ??s his parentsâ?? anniversary. He simply calls them and tell wish them a happy anniversary. â??How long?â? Dad and I ask. â??Twenty-nine years.â? â??Whou.â? Dad says. â??Well thatâ??s about right. How old is Rebbie?â? â??Twenty-eight.â? â??Thatâ??s about right,â? Dad smiles. His smile disappoints me. He and Mom couldnâ??t even make it my ENTIRE LIFE. And Iâ??m only sixteen! I thought they loved each other. Disturbingly, I walk away. I talk with Patricia, and we complain about our parents together. I had nothing to do Monday and Dad decides heâ??ll pick me up. It was when I got in the car when he greets me with the point that he needs to stop by the station. â??I hope Cooper is still there.â? Canâ??t you see thereâ??s an unhealthy attraction this man has on me? It was Wednesday when Michael picks me up from school later. I had a Beta Club meeting. â??Boy, I-AM-STAR-VING!â? I squealed. I barely ate anything today in lunch, so I was feeling it now it was four, nearly five. â??Wanna stop?â? â??No. Dad said heâ??s have some steak. Iâ??m holding him to his promise. Iâ??m just so hungry now; I wonâ??t even mind a human! Just get me something NOW!â? I joked. I donâ??t wait for Michael. I just use my key, happy to see Dadâ??s car. â??Hey Dad!â? I say as I arch the door open. Who I see, I wasnâ??t expectingâ?¦.Dylan. Heâ??s wearing another semi-suit. The same kind of outfit. Black fedora and a white ribbon thingy around it. He turns around, understandably caught off guard. â??Oh,â? I say, obviously embarrassed. His face is ominous; actually quiet-looking. â??Hey,â? now I sound like Iâ??m out of breath and cautious. His hands are already stuck in his pockets. â??Hey, Lyr.â? Dad walks out the kitchen. I see a beer in hand. â??Hey, Chief, see you tomorrow.â? Dylan readjusted his hat, shifting in it forward a little. Heâ??s walking towards the door where I was still standing. â??Hey, you canâ??t leave just yet. Remember, I DROVE YOU over here.â? Dad says, stopping him. â??Oh, yeah.â? he turns back around. Iâ??m by the door, feeling awkward in my own house. When I saw Dylan and Dylan got used to seeing me, his expression was calm with a small, closed smile. I decide to drop my bag on the recliner and walk in the kitchen. Well, I donâ??t see the steak Dad promised. Instead I see barbeque. â??Everybody got the same stuff.â? Dad calls. I fill my plate with some stuff and sit. When I had sat my bag down, I saw this huge map on our wooden table in the living room. Now Iâ??m wondering what itâ??s for. I wonder WHO theyâ??re looking for. I eat a small portion despite my early hungers and I do it quickly. I go back to the recliner to get my stuff. â??Weâ??re just trying to track this guy thatâ??s a special interest to a crime.â? Dad says as theyâ??re looking over it. I nod and go outside with my stuff. For a second, I think Michael has left but heâ??s sitting on our glider. I join him and sit the stuff I donâ??t need down. The rest, I start working on, but I lean on Michaelâ??s shoulder. â??You should go in there. Donâ??t let that guy run you off. Dad already think youâ??re a little goody two shoes. DONâ??T prove him right.â? â??Lyric, I donâ??t give a damn. I just want to make sure that crook doesnâ??t corrupt you. Heâ??s a low down guy. DONâ??T TRUST HIM. Ya hear me?â? I look at him. Heâ??s looking at me, too. And that good boy image I saw on camera November 4th is now gone. Michael isnâ??t smiling now. Actually, heâ??s expecting answer, so I gotta make one. â??I doâ?¦but itâ??s not like I can ALWAYS make him stopâ?¦.â? I trail off. â??Bull crap!â? he gets up and hold on to our rail. I stare at the back of his skinny frame. Thereâ??s no hope I think to myself, and drag all my stuff with me upstairs. I donâ??t know why Michael canâ??t stop acting insecure. Donâ??t he know heâ??s my only hope sometimes? *&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*& Hope yâ??all liked! And the brothers really did an unofficial sort of interview in 1978 I believe. It was at this man, Dexterâ??s house, who worked for Epic. Iâ??m sure some of yâ??all have probably seen it. You can find it on You Tube or the web. He really wore a red stripe shirt, so hopefully that was clue enuff. Sincerely, Aariyan!!
