More Than Just Good Friends :: 1
Hello. My name is Nicole Brooks. And, since a long time ago, I've had this idea in my mind, so here it goes! -Nicole Brooks XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX Chapter 1: Dance With Me Allison was dancing with an especially attractive man; thoroughly enjoying the star-studded party. She pulled away from him only to duck under his arm in an impressive twirl and end up back in his arms, continuing their dance. "Excuse me, May I cut in?" Allison giggled as she looked over to see her best friend making an overly-extravagant gesture; holding one hand out, one behind his back, knees slightly bent, and his head bowed. "You may." She said with a smile. The man that she had been dancing with gave her a nod and stepped away, allowing the other man to take his place. She smiled at him while one of his hands took hers, the other resting on the skin of her back that was exposed by the expensive dress. "That was a bit much, don't ya think?" He smiled back charmingly; "Nothing is too much for you." She slapped his chest playfully and rolled her eyes. "Shut up Michael." The music suddenly slowed, changing to a much slower beat. She laid her head on his shoulder as they easily glided across the dance floor, both of them knowing just how the other moved. "Enjoying the party?" He asked softly. She smiled against his shoulder. "Yes, you?" He leaned his head against the top of hers, continuing to lead her in a slow paced dance. "I am now." Upon seeing these two, anyone would have guessed that they were an item... especially the tabloids. But no one understood the friendship that Michael and Allison had... Of course they loved each other, they were best friends, and had been for many years. Their friendship had begun after Michael had seen Allison in her first movie at the young age of twelve. Michael being only fourteen at the time had been almost captivated by her talent... and beauty. He had requested to meet her, and Allison, being a fan of his music, had accepted, more than excited to have captured his interest. They had made an instant connection, both being so young and both having to deal with the heavy weight of the media's constant critiquing, they both enjoyed having someone who understood, someone who made them feel not alone. And they still made each other feel that way today. Allison hugged herself closer to Michael as they danced, feeling safe in his arms. "Who was that guy you were dancing with?" She chuckled; "Why?" He smiled; "No reason." "Oh yeah?" He looked at her with a look of fake seriousness; "Yeah." She shrugged; "Whatever you say..." He laughed; "Shut up Ally." Michael looked across the floor and noticed his manager, Frank, looking at him expectantly. He sighed noisily, knowing exactly what Frank wanted to talk about. "I'll be right back." He said softly to Allison. She unwrapped her arms from around him slowly, not wanting to let go just yet. He kissed her cheek softly before making his way through the crowded dance floor; lightly pushing people aside and saying excuse me several times before finally reaching Frank. Michael looked at him, waiting for what he knew was about to come. "Michael, you know what people think about you and her." Michael sighed, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. "Frank, you know it's not like that." Frank nodded impatiently; "Yes, of course I know that Michael, but others might think..." "Who cares what they think? I can't have a friend?" Frank looked as if he were thinking it through before looking back to Michael. "Just be careful." Michael gave a very forced smile; "Always am." He quickly made his way back to Allison, now a bit aggravated. He had heard that whole story before... â??You don't need anything else for the tabloids to feed on.', â??Well, either date her or don't Michael.' Etc. Michael was quickly becoming tired of people constantly telling him what was best for his life... if he wasn't allowed to have a friend then what was he allowed to have? He approached Allison, who was again speaking with the same man that she had been dancing with earlier, seemingly enjoying his company. Michael was about to tap on her shoulder when someone did the same to him. He turned around and was met with the charming smile of Quincy Jones. "Hey Q." he said in an easygoing tone. "You here with Allison?" Quincy asked following Michael's stare. Michael turned back to him; "Yeah... as friends." He had never felt the need to remind people that they were just friends until recently, because honestly he had never even thought of people thinking more of it than what it was. "Of course." Quincy replied with a nod before swallowing the last of his drink in one gulp. He patted Michael's shoulder; "Can I get you anything?" Michael shook his head. "Nah, I'm good, thanks." "Alright, if you change your mind... bar's over there." He said pointing to the left. Michael nodded; his mind still on Allison. After Quincy disappeared into the large gathering of people Michael made his way back over to Allison, hopefully getting the chance to talk to her. He walked to where she had been only to see that she was no longer there. "Michael, over here!" He looked behind him to see Allison sitting at one of the smaller bars, wine glass in hand. Allison smiled as Michael approached, patting the seat next to her. "Where have you been?" Allison asked him with an eyebrow raised. He rolled his eyes dramatically; "Talking to Frank and Q." She giggled and took a small sip from her glass. "I take it the conversation wasn't pleasant?" Michael gave her a look that she translated as â??duh'. "Just the usual â??be careful or someone might think you're dating Allison' thing." He said using a deeper tone, mimicking Frank's voice. Allison laughed; "When are they going to get over that? I mean, how long have we been friends..." She began counting on her fingers; "eleven years? And they're still bitching about us?" Michael shook his head, taking a deep breath and trying to clear his head. "Can I buy you a drink?" Allison asked him with a wink. He chuckled softly; "You know what? I just might let you do that." "What can I get you?" She asked taking another drink from her own glass. "A dirty martini sounds about right." A mischievous smile spread across Allison's lips as she waved down that bartender. "One dirty martini please." Michael watched as the man made the clear drink, pouring it into the crystal glass, sliding several olives onto a small sword, and setting it gently into the liquid before placing the whole thing on the bar in front of him. "One dirty martini... and anything else for the lady?" Allison smiled; "I'll have the same as him please." Michael laughed knowing what she was doing, she never let him drink more than she did, â??you're not allowed to have more of a buzz than me.' as she had put it. Allison adjusted her long dress, looking down to make sure that nothing was showing out of the swooping neckline. "Dirty martini for the lady." Allison nodded to the bartender and gave him a smile. "How much do I owe you?" The bartender smiled back. "On the house" he said with a wink. Michael shook his head in disbelief. "How on Earth do you do that?" She looked at him and gave an innocent smile. "Don't know what you're talking about." He laughed; "Whatever you say..." he said, mimicking her tone from earlier. Michael picked his drink up and took a large gulp of it before setting it back on the bar. Allison laughed as his face scrunched up. "Yeah, that hurts." He said chuckling. She followed right behind him, taking a drink from her own glass. They sat there for a moment, taking occasional drinks from their martinis as they both thought about separate things. Allison downed the last of her drink at the same time that Michael did, both of them setting their glasses on the bar in unison. Allison stood up and looked at Michael expectantly. "So, are you going to dance with me or what?" He looked over at her and smiled, already feeling a slight buzz from the drink. "You know it." Michael stood, pulling a fifty out of his pocket and setting it on the bar before grabbing Allison's hand and dragging her towards the dance floor. "That was a good tip." She said once they were face to face. Michael laughed; "That was a good drink." Allison rolled her eyes; "I thought I was buying." "You can make it up to me with a dance." She smiled; she had planned on dancing with him anyways... but of course he knew that. Allison let Michael twirl her a few times before pulling her back in, both of them dancing quite impressively. You didn't spend eleven years around Michael Jackson and not learn a few things here and there. A few people watched as they continued to dance, whether they were impressed or just curious as to whom Michael Jackson was dancing with, they weren't sure; probably both. As they danced, they were both surprised when Allison suddenly yawned. "Are you tired?" Michael asked with a smile. She chuckled. "Yeah, I didn't sleep all that great last night." "We can go if you want." Michael said softly. "Yeah, I'm kinda tired of this party anyways." She said jokingly. Michael chuckled; "Come on, I'll take you home."
