Tough Love Part 36; Part 2
This is for everyone who reads the story. Hopefully you like it. Here goes! & get ready for my homemade surprises! ∞. ∞. ∞. ∞. ∞. Chapter 36; Part 2 White Walls After making he was going to the right room, he led us to the I.C.U. â??Not too many people supposed to be in here, but April is coming later. I told her to get her rest, and his mother is making sure she calms down.â? â??Okay.â? I said. He didnâ??t need me holding his hand, but I needed Michaelâ??s, so he held it for me. â??Samuel Navara,â? my dad said while pointing to him. More than likely he was telling Michael that. My dad scooted a chair up and held his hand. Sonny laid their lifeless, Iâ??m afraid to say. I knew he was shot, but I didnâ??t know where. â??He was shot near his artery in the left side of his neck. I think he was punctured there. I think he was already drinking then, so his situation was no better.â? â??How long he might be out?â? â??Of a job or his coma?â? â??I meant his coma; but heâ??s getting FIRED?â? â??For his coma, I donâ??t know,â? he shook his head. â??But no, I wonâ??t let him go. I just think he needs to rearrange his priorities. Iâ??m going to make sure heâ??s off for six months or soâ?¦.â? â??Why that long?â? â??Time with his baby, if he still wants April. And Iâ??ll set him up with a therapist. â??Yâ??know what, I might just give him three months. But weâ??re having a new internee, so the spaces will be filled in.â? â??Who?â? I said as I walked up to him. â??Oh, some twenty-two year old cat, I believe; but I donâ??t know. He seems straight.â? â??Whatâ??s his name?â? â??Canâ??t remember.â? He said he looked up to me. â??Oh,â? I said nodding. My dad took up the only seat there was, but I was fine with that. I started wishing I ate something this morning, and as I whispered that to Michaelâ??who was sitting on the floor next to meâ??he suggested that we go down to the food court and get something for the three of us. He was wearing another long flannel top, but this time his sleeves werenâ??t rolled up like it was yesterday. He had on a red bow tie and a black fedora with black shades. When I looked at that again, I took the hat off his head and stuck it down on my head. Michael purposefully tilted it down over my eyes. Then I heard him say through a smile, â??Give me that.â? Then he stands. â??Clarence, do you want anything from the food court?â? Dad shakes his head. â??Okay,â? Michael says. â??Can I go?â? I asked him as I stood. For the first time, I ASKED for his permission. â??Yeah,â? Dad said. â??We shouldnâ??t be gone too long.â? I said. â??Hurry back,â? he said with a small smirk. I knew that just meant that even though he didnâ??t have much to worry about, he wanted to make sure there was NOTHING in particular to squirm about, so I only nodded with a small smile. â??These halls freak me out.â? Michael told me as we walk down the white hallway of the Intensive Care Unit. â??Why? Hospitals calm me down sometimes.â? â??I just know alotta sick people are in here, though. I just donâ??t like the thought of them.â? â??Oh,â? I said. After a minute pause of talking, I say, â??Well, I donâ??t always like hospital food if you care to know.â? I said, beaming. â??Then do you wanna go back to the room?â? he asked turning towards it. â??No,â? I said shaking my head. â??I donâ??t like seeing people like that,â? I looked him in the eyes after I said that. â??Yes, I would like your regular salad. A small please. And I would like a diet. Coke. Diet Coke.â? â??What size?â? The woman clerk asks. â??Small.â? â??Okay, will that be all?â? â??No,â? Michael says. â??What will you like?â? he asks me. I was to the right of him. â??Can I get onion rings. A smallâ??â? â??Medium.â? I look over at Michael, then I take his suggestion. â??Can I get a medium onion ring, and aâ?¦um, a Sprite.â? â??Anything else?â? The clerk asks me. She had short brown hair that reached her ears, and had a hint of Mexican in her. She seemed to be maybe in her early forties. Maybe forty-four. â??Anything else?â? Michael repeats her. â??And aâ?¦sugar cookie!â? â??How many?â? â??Two.â? Michael answers her. â??Okay, your salad, diet Coke, Sprite, medium onion ringsâ??â? â??She wants a medium Sprite and I want a small diet Coke.â? He corrects her. â??Rightâ?¦so all of that, plus what you said,â? she lazily points at him, â??and TWO sugar cookies. Am I right?â? â??Yes,â? we tell her. â??Thatâ??ll be $15.59.â? Michael hesitates while he seems to be thinking, then he says okay. He hands her a twenty in no time. â??Keep the change, maâ??am.â? Her eyes grow bright. â??Thank you!â? she says. Then she puts the change in her apron front pocket. â??Just stand over to the side to wait for your order.â? So we do. â??Sometimes you just have to be gracious to people. You never know what people are going through, so you have to be accepting of that.â? Michael says after we find a seat off to the side. We were a small white round table with the spinning chairs. The table and chairs seemed to be made of marble or something in the category. â??Yeah, and did you SEE how she better service AFTER that?â? â??Yeah,â? he said smiling a little. â??And you know Iâ??m a little surprised you even ordered something for yourself. Why so light?â? â??You gotta stay thin some way!â? â??But Michaelâ??whether you wanna hear this or notâ??you ARE! Boy, you thin.â? â??And I GOTTA stay like this. Gotta keep this dancerâ??s body.â? â??How do you?â? â??By eating right and dancing!â? â??Do you think you could teach me some moves?â? â??Why?â? â??Because thereâ??s only a few things only YOU can teach me.â? He smiles and giggles a little in his own way, then he looks down. â??So what do you say?â? â??I have one,â? he puts his finger up, â??request, though. Then itâ??s a sealed deal.â? â??Uh, what?â? I said as I rolled my eyes. â??Hey, you gonna love it.â? He says. â??But I donâ??t know if itâ??s appropriate to be asking right now.â? â??What it is?â? â??Not right now.â? â??Can I have your babies?â? He looked up at me. â??No, is THAT the question, â??Can I have your babies?â?? Meaning, are you tryna get with me.â? â??No, not in that way.â? â??Just tell me.â? â??Well,â? he bites his thumbnail, â??Lyric, are you. No.â? he shakes his head as he stumbles over his thoughts. â??Take your time.â? I said as I hold his hand. He slithers it away from me. The way Iâ??m sitting, Iâ??m facing the wall and he was facing the crowd of other people. â??Have you ever been to New York?â? â??No!â? â??Do you wanna go?â? â??I wanna see Studio 54,â? I singed. â??Look, â??The Wizâ?? is right around the corner, and Iâ??m NOT gonna be a loner.â? â??Why?â? â??Because Iâ??ve got you.â? He looks up at me. My head is tilted to the right, and heâ??s crouched over, but there was still chemistry in our smiles and eyes towards each other. â??What are you tryna say?â? I said as I started swinging in the chair, which had no back to it, as I grew a little uncomfortable and giddy. â??Lyric, do you want to see â??The Wizâ??? Like the premiere?â? â??SURE! My God, YES Michael! When?â? â??When it premieres.â? â??Which IS?â? â??October 24th I thinkâ?¦.â? â??SO soon?â? I asked. â??What day is that?â? â??I donâ??t knowâ?¦.â? â??I know thatâ??s a week before Halloween, so that should be on aâ?¦um..Tuesday! Yeah, thatâ??s a Tuesday. WAIT, a TUESDAY Michael! I have school that day, though!â? I whined. â??Shh, calm down.â? He said as he grabbed my hands. â??We donâ??t even need a mob when this occasion isnâ??t for me. Just hold your horses, Lyr.â? â??But why on a Tuesday?â? â??For one, they ainâ??t expecting me to show up with a sixteen year old,â? he smiles then. â??And it just is. Donâ??t know anyway how else how to explain it.â? â??Well, THANK YOU! Thank you, thank you, thank you Michael!â? I jumped up and jumped down into his lap. I was gripping and hugging him. Also I was kissing him ALL over his face, except his lips. I just had his right eye and eyelash when he had to stop me. â??Lyric, I enjoy your enthusiasm girl, but we donâ??t need any attention. Take it down a little.â? â??I also wanna go to Studio 54.â? â??Iâ??ll have to think of a time to take you. We wonâ??t have time all in that day.â? â??I know,â? I said as I looked down. He played with my arm a little. â??Well, hurry with your onions. Iâ??m sure you canâ??t have stuff with you in that unit.â? â??I wouldnâ??t try.â? Michael suggested that we go get a gift for Sonny Navara so I said sure. â??What do you think heâ??ll like?â? â??I wish we wouldâ??ve went somewhere else. They OVERCHARGE in these gift shops.â? I mumbled. â??It doesnâ??t matter to me, just as long as itâ??s reasonable.â? He said as he handed me a baby blue stuffed elephant â??I wonder what Party he goes for.â? â??You mean Republican or something?â? â??Yeah.â? â??That doesnâ??t matter right now; get something else. We wanna make him feel better.â? â??What does he like?â? â??I know giraffes.â? â??Letâ??s see what we can find.â? Well, I can tell you we found a stuffed giraffeâ??as in a stuffed teddy bearâ??but I thought it was too childish. â??Michael, I donâ??t know. We donâ??t want to get a card and a balloon. Everybody does that!â? â??So letâ??s say if I got you tons of balloons.â? He thinks. â??No reason AT all. Would you still not feel special?â? â??Huh?â? â??Do YOU like balloons?â? â??Yeah.â? I nodded my head. He just said oh and walked away. â??But WHY?â? I followed him. â??No reason.â? He smirks a little. â??No, TELL me.â? â??Well, girls like balloons, so if I was to give you some, I know youâ??ll feel special.â? â??Why do you want me to feel special, Michael?â? I asked. â??WHY wouldnâ??t you wanna feel special by me? Just an average guy who is single? Just an average guy who feels he is attractedâ??â? I felt a push behind me. It was this blond little girl who was doing hop-scotch on the tiles. She mustâ??ve pushed me in the behind. Michael laughs. â??What were you saying?â? I asked him. â??Nothing, come on, letâ??s see if we can find something.â? I found a cool Cuban snow globe.â? â??Think heâ??ll like it? He has family from there.â? â??Letâ??s take it. Itâ??s only five dollars,â? Michael said mocking me. Once again, he paid for it, which sorta bothered me. â??Why the long face?â? he whispered to me as we walked back down the I.C.U. â??Mike,â? I stopped him. â??Iâ??m no gold digger, so it ALWAYS bothers me when youâ??re paying for everything I get. I just want you to stop.â? I didnâ??t really want to hear his response because I knew he would protest, so I walked away, and I went into the room with my dad and his bed-ridden friend. I sat there on the floor again and stared at the white wall in front of me. I didnâ??t want to keep seeing Sonny like this, so I looked away the best I could. After a while, I fell asleep there. ∞. ∞. ∞. ∞. ∞. The next part shall have a great surprise! ~~A.
