Tough Love Part 35
I guess you could say I gotta a little inspiration, & I couldnâ??t wait any longer, so Iâ??m swinginâ?? it again. --Aariyan _~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~ Chapter 35 A Jackson 5 Dinner Party The dinner started off with a lot of forks clicking and some even lightly scrapping briefly. I had not much of a choice but be on my best behavior since I was sitting right next to Joseph, so that was no fun. But he started the overall table conversation. â??Letâ??s get to know each other. Iâ??ma say my name, youâ??ll say your nameâ? he says as he points to Dee Dee, â??And so on. â??We can also tell something about ourselves,â? I could LaToya had a smile in her voice when she said that. â??If you want,â? Joseph said. â??Well, Iâ??m Joseph, and Iâ??m the patriarch of this band wagon.â? Everyone went in a circle. When Michael said his name, he was done talking, but then I heard someone say in an evidently deep voice, â??And dated Tatum Oâ??Neal.â? It wasnâ??t Janet, but it was the girl beside her. â??Toy, shut up,â? Joseph said. Michael acted like he didnâ??t hear the comment because he didnâ??t miss a beat as he ate. â??Iâ??m Janet; and I donâ??t date, but I play May West.â? She said with a smile. I shouldnâ??t have waited to the last minute. â??Iâ??m Alaric Swan,â? Michael eyes got big when I said my whole name, â??andâ?¦â? should I say Michael Jackson lives with me? Wait, why not? â??Iâ??m Alaric Swan, and Michael Jackson lives with me. Iâ??m not sure if it was what I did to him or not.â? The others started laugh, and I laughed in an embarrassing, burning way. I only MEANT to say I was Alaric Swan, and Michael Jackson lives with me, but I said a little too much. They were still laughing as I looked around the table. Katherine laughed a little, but I think she stopped herself short. â??So WHAT was it you DID to him?â? I heard Jermaine call across the table. He was sitting exactly by Katherine on the opposite side of the table from me. I looked down the table to Michael, laughing, then I looked at Jermaine. â??I taught him how to live,â? was my simplest answer. I had to think about it for a few seconds, though. People started talking, then the conversation targeted to me. â??So how is your school life with Michael around, now?â? Dee Dee asked. â??Itâ??s still the same. I just know that thereâ??s more excitement once I get home.â? Dee Dee was sitting right across from me. â??I betcha it is,â? Randy mumbled to Marlon as he laughed. Marlon nudged him. After glancing over at them again, I said, â??But I guess weâ??re still trying to loosen up with each other. Iâ??m kinda shy also, so I know how it is.â? â??You NEVER get intimidated by his fame?â? she asked next. â??Intimidated in what way?â? â??Like do you ever feel that since you know him now as â??Michaelâ?? and â??Michael Jacksonâ??, is it easy to get the two mingled in together? Then do you feel that panicky feeling since you know the famous part of him, also?â? â??Yeah, I do sometimes.â? I tried looking over at Michael in a subliminal way. He was paying attention to our convo. â??But then he shows me thereâ??s more to him than that persona. He doesnâ??t want me to be a false friend, so I havenâ??t really gotten to scream for The Jackson 5.â? â??Not even when you met him?â? â??I was distracted,â? I said as I squirmed a little. She just doesnâ??t know that I was distracted because I was so angry. She also doesnâ??t know that I was distracted, and acted a tad bit angry because that was my way of crying out for attention for Michael. â??Okay,â? she said as she glanced over at Joseph. â??Come on, this canâ??t be a Jackson 5 dinner without no Jackson 5 dancing!â? Hazel jokingly cheered on the guys. â??But this dinner was a gathering for the family,â? Michael corrected Hazel. So the little kids did their best to quiet down as their fathersâ??excluding Michael and Randyâ??got up to perform. â??Joseph?â? Michael asked. He was probably asking for his approval or about getting some music. â??Janet, go get the record.â? â??Okay.â? â??Get â??Dancing Machineâ??.â? Dee Dee hollerd. â??Yeah!â? we all clapped. We heard as the music started. â??Ah baby Do it baby Dancing, dancing, dancing She's a dancing machine Ah baby Move it baby Automatic, Systematic Full of color, self-contained Tuned and gentle to your vibeâ? He looked over at me while smiling through his performance. As I got to see him do the Robot up close and personal, I got up and walked closer, so I sat in his seat. As he repeated â??Come on babeâ? and â??Shake it babyâ?, I couldnâ??t help but shake my shoulders. Katherine smiled at me. I also sat in his seat up to the time he finished. â??Thatâ??s all folks.â? Michael said. â??I shouldâ??ve had at least SOMETHING in my hands as I just sung,â? Michael said after he gave his mom a kiss on the cheek. â??And what are YOU doing in my seat?â? he asked me. I looked up and gave him an innocent smile. He smiled back. â??Aww, just let her stay,â? Katie told him. So we shared the seat butt-to-butt since he â??insistedâ? to stay where he was. So I was sitting by Jackie. Dessert was served, and Joseph made it known I was sitting on the other end of the table by making a joke. People looked at me, and laughed in I guess a polite way. â??My homemade peach cobbler,â? Katherine said as I and Janet helped serve the plates. I felt the stare Jermaine gave me as I served him his plate. Iâ??m glad I wasnâ??t wearing anything really revealing; or I would have REALLY felt squirmy. â??I REALLY love peach cobbler,â? I told Katie before I dug in. Just eating it gave me a smile. Eventually we finished, and the men decided to migrate from the table like they usually do, so Katie told everyone to just leave their plates and she would get it. Well, I know I wouldnâ??t leave her like that, so I wanted to help. â??Lyric, I donâ??t know if youâ??re trying to be my next daughter-in-law or not, but whatever it is, I wanna know,â? she says with a smile once everyone left the room. â??No, I just feel comfortable cleaning up, though I donâ??t always feel like it at home.â? I said with a laugh. â??Plus Iâ??m cleaning up with the â??Worldâ??s Famous Momâ??, so Iâ??m only honored!â? She beams. â??You donâ??t know at what cost.â? Then she comes over to me and covers my ear with her right hand. â??I even told my staff to not to worry about helping me clean up, because I had a feeling you would help out.â? Though I knew I could have been a part of this family gathering, I didnâ??t feel up to it. I decided to hide behind my cleaning instead. Someone approaches the sink right next to me. â??Hey,â? I look up and see Michael. â??Hi,â? I said. â??Cleaning up?â? â??Yeah,â? I said nodding. â??Can I help?â? â??Do whatever you want â??cause you know you gonna anyways.â? â??True,â? he says as he nods. So I cleaned and he rinsed off. After that, I rinse my hands off and dry them with a paper towel. I throw it away and lean on the counter. â??Whatâ??s wrong?â? he asks after he does the same. â??I donâ??t know. I justâ?¦I justâ?¦stick out I guess.â? I looked at him. â??I donâ??t feel good like I should.â? â??Why not?â? I thought about it honestly, and I SUDDENLY knew WHY. Instead I told him a safer answer: â??I donâ??t know.â? â??You do.â? he said nodding to me. â??You just wonâ??t tell me.â? â??Says WHO?!â? â??You donâ??t have to tell me. I see it, in your eyes. Youâ??re thinking, but youâ??re not letting me know. That bothers me, you know.â? â??I know,â? I said repeating him. â??Can you just give me a hint? Youâ??re hiding behind your chores. You donâ??t want family timeâ??â? â??I didnâ??t say that, so thatâ??s NOT true. I just said I wasnâ??t feeling up to it.â? â??So what does that mean in your world?â? â??That means that Iâ??m having different feelings at once.â? â??Well could you hint around about ONE particular person? Like ME?â? â??Sure.â? I said. So I thought about what I would tell him. â??Well, Iâ??m feeling new feelings, but itâ??s not like itâ??s the first time Iâ??ve been feeling them, so theyâ??re nothing new, but Iâ??m highly confused now.â? â??Describe those feelings, my patient, Lyric.â? I turned away and walked two steps away, then I half turned again; since I felt I couldnâ??t face him straight up. â??Heavy.â? I looked down. â??HEAVY feelings, Michael.â? Then I turned back around to the room where the family was. I saw that everyone was gathered together, of course, with the T.V. playing. People were doing their own things. Katherine invited me in a game of â??Scrabbleâ? with Michael, and they had to teach me how to play again, because I forgot the rules. â??Got it!â? Katherine said as she spelled â??itâ?. I donâ??t know how she DOES it, but sheâ??s able to manage a win whenever she plays. I saw that twice as Michael and I played her. Michaelâ??s problem was that he would sometimes misspell the word, and me or his mother would point it out to him. My brain just sorta paused a little, so some obvious words wouldnâ??t jump out at me; but Katherine had it all! After getting our butts kicked twiceâ??me placing second place both timesâ??all of us got up from the floor (Michael and I helped Katie up), Joseph wanted me to sit by him, so I did and Michael smoothly plopped his butt beside mine. I wasnâ??t EVEN mad in the lease. â??Why is it that I ALWAYS see you under Michael?â? he asked me. â??Weâ??re not always UNDER each other, Joseph.â? Michael said. â??So youâ??re over her?â? he whispered, then laughed. I looked at him with big eyes. â??Iâ??m just kiddinâ??, girl. Donâ??t let your cop father know,â? Joseph said. After a moment of not watching to see what I was going to say, I mumbled â??I wonâ??t.â? After sometime, he moves away, and Jermaine sits by me, but his little girl is in his hands. â??Wanna hold her?â? â??Sure. Whatâ??s her name?â? â??Her name is Autumn.â? â??Thank you,â? I said as I smiled at her. â??So how old are you?â? I looked at him. â??Sixteen.â? â??Michael is STAYING with you? Since when?â? â??Since itâ??s been decided.â? Michael said. He was seating beside me to my left, still. â??Yâ??all ainâ??t together, are yâ??all?â? Thatâ??s just about everyoneâ??s next natural question. â??No, but he can tell you more about the arrangement than I can.â? I said with a smile. I started playing with Autumn then. â??Sheâ??s three months now.â? Jermaine says quietly. â??Oh. I guess 1978 is the year for babies.â? I said with a smile. Jermaine was slouched over the whole time, so after he rubbed his hands behind his neck, he got up and left me where I was. I was fine with that though. â??Michael, have you asked anyone to your premiere, yet?â? Marlon asked across the room. â??No, not yet.â? â??What premiere?â? I asked him. â??For â??The Wizâ??.â? He said as he looks up again. â??No one AT ALL?â? Marlon looks over at me real quick. â??I just HADNâ??T gotten to it yet, Marlon. At least not the REAL person I needta ask.â? â??But weâ??re going to the â??Mayorâ??s Ballâ?? together.â? â??Who?â? LaToya asks. Sheâ??s seating not too far from Marlon. â??Her,â? Michael says as he tilts his head over to me. LaToya squints a little, and I couldnâ??t help but smile at her immaturity a little. Other family members might have heard, but we didnâ??t make it obvious that the four of us was a part of that conversation. Sub-families started leaving, and Michael and I was the second to last to leave. Jermaine and his family would be last. Tito and his family was the first to go. â??Come back ANY time.â? Katherine said. â??Donâ??t tell her that for real.â? Michael says. â??And you, you have just gotten so BIG! WHAT have they been feeding you over there?â? â??Everything you have forbidden me to eat.â? He says. When she stops smiling a little, he says heâ??s only joking and laughs. Then he bends down again, kisses his mother cheek, and hugs her once more. He was actually sorta right about the joke he told his mother. But never-the-less, I beamed inside because of his love for his mother. â??Bye, Joseph,â? Michael told his father. â??Jan,â? he says as he ruffles her hair. â??Randy,â? he says after he gives him a brotherly hug. â??LaToya,â? he bumps her hip. â??Bye Hazel, Autumn, Jay. Jermaine.â? Their names, he only called out. Jermaineâ??s son is called â??Jayâ?, but heâ??s really a junior to his father. His other family members were at the door as they waved us goodbye. Katherine said she would call security to make sure we got out fine, so Joseph was able to close the door after we were out of sight to them. Of course Michael and I didnâ??t say anything as we headed to his car, but after we left the estate, he started talking again. â??So what do you think your father is going to say about this â??date thingâ???â? â??This â??date thing?â??â? I repeated. â??You know for the ball?â?â? â??I donâ??t know Michael, and I forgot about it until you reminded me.â? I said. â??But for whatever reason, Iâ??m going to tell him a reasonable answer, so it wonâ??t be a lie. It might just be some of the truthâ?¦some of the truth sugar-coated a little, but thatâ??s, THATâ??S all. â??And weâ??ll be able to distract my dad about how our day went. What time is it, anyways?â? I asked as I looked at the clock. 10:06 P.M. â??Not bad for a nanny, huh?â? he asked once he saw the time, also. â??Yeah, and WHY are you my â??nannyâ?? again?â? â??Want some fries?â? Michael said while eyeing a McDonaldâ??s we were coming up to. â??No, Michael. Tell me! Stop trying to bribe me.â? â??Iâ??m not BRIBING!â? â??Well, stop doing what you do, and GIVE me the truth!â? He didnâ??t saying anything else. GREAT! I opened the door, and when I did, it was REALLY dark in the house. The only light that was on was the T.V. in our living room. â??DAD?â? I asked. I knew he SHOULD be home by now. Or he wouldnâ??t have had the T.V. on. â??DADDY?â? I asked as I turned on the light. â??Lyric, donâ??t.â? I heard a hoarse voice. I looked over at my father. He was sitting on the couch in a white tee, some gray sweats, and barefoot. But the giant thing that got to me was that he was holding a piece of Kleenex in his hands, with tears still in his eyes. And his nose was still congested. â??My friend Navara might be dying,â? he said in a cracked, hushed tone. Then he starts to sob again. Itâ??s really rare when I see my dad like this. _~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~ I hoped you LIKED!
