Darling Nikki (Part 25)
Here's 25 ! -Nikki I didnâ??t know where I was going or why. All I knew was that I wanted liquor, and fast. I went to the liquor store and grabbed the first bottle I saw. I threw the money on the counter and walked out. Surprisingly no one stopped me. I quickly opened the bottle and knocked it back. It burned so badly but I didnâ??t stop. I drank until I began to choke. When I caught my breath I drank so more, until the bottle was almost half way. I could barely walk straight which was exactly what I wanted. I stumbled down the street until I could walk anymore. I fell to the ground and stared up at the sky. The stars were out and the moon shined brightly. I was content, and at peace. But I began to panic seeing that I didnâ??t know where I was. I heard someone coming and quickly snapped my head up towards the sidewalk. The figure came closer until they were standing right above me. It was Tyler and she looked worried. "How did you get here?" I asked in a slurred voice. "You're laying in my yard." She informed me, pointing straight to her house. I lifted my head up and looked over. â??What the hell is going on with you?â? She asked looking over at the bottle. I sighed and stared back up at the sky. â??Everythingâ??s fucked up. I canâ??t do anything right.â? I felt around for the bottle and tried to open it. Tyler quickly grabbed it and threw it across the street. â??How do you know that you canâ??t do anything right if you never tried?â? Tyler asked softly kicking me. â??I donâ??t know!â? I replied bursting into tears. She tried her best not to laugh and I tried to reach up and hit her. â??Youâ??re drunk off of your ass!â? She yelled finally bursting into a fit of laughter. I grabbed onto her legs and tried to hit her. But I felt so heavy. It was almost impossible to reach out and slap her leg. I slowly leaned in and bit her leg. She quickly stepped back yelling. â??Ah you slut!â? She exclaimed making me laugh. She helped me up and even still I couldnâ??t keep my balance. She walked me home and to my door. I turned around and hugged her. â??Dude what are you doing?â? She asked hesitantly patting my back. â??Youâ??re like the coolest moe foe Iâ??ve ever met.â? I replied now letting go. â??Yea anyways good bye.â? She replied quickly while stepping off of the porch. I walked into the house and up the stairs. That night when I went to sleep I decided to take Tylerâ??s advice. Iâ??d actually try my best, for real this time. â??That is how you find the domain of the function.â? Mr. Coleman explained while circling the answer. I was actually taking notes. Me, taking notes. After class I headed for my locker. I knew that people were talking about me. I heard my name at least ten times before reaching my locker. When I opened it I just stared inside. Not looking at anything in particular. Tiffany and her little group of friends walked down the hallway. I didnâ??t pay attention to them. I just simply got my books and closed the locker. â??Talk about the shortest relationship in High School history. But then again, we all knew it wouldnâ??t last in the first place.â? Tiffany spoke directly to me but I continued to ignore her. I slowly walked down the hall and my bad luck decided to kick in. All of the football players that hung out were walking my way. I knew that Michael would be in the mix. â??He Nicole!â? One of the players yelled. I weakly smiled and saluted. â??Where you about to go?â? He asked stopping dead in his tracks. I spotted Michael out of the corner of my eye but I decided not to look over at him. â??Class.â? I replied while shrugging my shoulders. They all pretended to faint and I couldnâ??t help but laugh. â??Fuck all of yall!â? I yelled in response. Before I could walk away I felt someone grab my arm. To my surprise it was Michael. He pulled me to the side and tried his best to keep quite so that no one could hear. â??Look Iâ??m sorry about the other day. I was just frustrated and I shouldnâ??t have taken it that far. I didnâ??t mean what I said.â? He spoke sincerely but even still I wasnâ??t but so gung ho to run into his arms. â??You have nothing to apologize for.â? I simply replied while shrugging my shoulders. I started to walk away again and he grabbed my arm a second time. â?? Why are you being that way?â? He asked now moving closer. â??Iâ??m not being anyway.â? I responded. He stared at me as if he knew that there was more. â??You just really hurt me. Not so much because your words ere harsh but because they were true. I have to get my shit together before really being with you.â? I explained giving no eye contact. â??If that was the case then youâ??d never be with me because youâ??ll never fully have yourself together. No one does. So how about WE work on issues TOGETHER, instead of you having to go through all of this alone.â? I nodded my head agreeing. â??Do you want me to walk you to class?â? He asked looking down the hallway in the direction I was supposed to be going. â??I really donâ??t want to go.â? I replied in a winey voice. â??But you have to.â? He replied calmly. He grabbed my hand and began to walk down the hallway. Once we reached my class I really didnâ??t want to go. â??Alrighty Iâ??ll see you after class.â? He spoke up letting go of my hand. I shook my head no looking into the class room and at him. â??Yes.â? He replied to my head gestures. I groaned and began to walk away. He grabbed my hand and pulled me back towards him. When I turned around to look at him he quickly leaned in and kissed me. When he pulled away a smile threatened his lips. â??Iâ??m proud of you; I just want you to know that.â? When he walked away I stood there staring at nothing in particular. Even though he probably didnâ??t think much of what he said it shocked me a bit. I havenâ??t been told that someone was proud of me for years now. Which was the reason a smile was threatening my lips. I walked into the classroom and took a seat at the front. Yes I sat in the front of the classroom. It seemed like everything was going perfectly fine. That was until a security guard walked into the classroom. They whispered something to the teacher and she called me up to the front. â??Youâ??re needed in the front office.â? The security guard informed me. I slowly walked out of the door completely confused as to why I was being called to the office. Unless they caught me painting the banner which I highly doubt. When I got to the office everyone had worried faces. I knew that something was truly wrong. Tyler was standing there staring at the ground. She wore a worried expression as well. The Principle was talking to a police officer. When he spotted me he walked over with concerned eyes. â??Whatâ??s going on?â? I asked, completely confused as to why everyone was so worried. â??Itâ??s Brenda, sheâ??s missing. Something happened at home and we think that she might commit suicide.â? He told me in a soft tone. It took me a while to react. My brain had to repeat his words over and over before I truly got what he was trying to say. But my actions surprised everyone. I dashed out of the room. I ran down the halls at full speed. I wasnâ??t thinking about class, fuck class. I pushed open the entrance door and ran full speed through the courtyard. I didnâ??t know where I was going or why. But what I did know was that I was going to find Brenda no matter what the circumstances were. I ran for a while, looking in every direction. I had to find her; there was no way I wasnâ??t going to find her. Hours went by, and even still I was just as alert as I was when I ran out of the building. It was cold but I didnâ??t care. I continued to look up and down the streets, in parks, random buildings, any where I could look I did. Until the only street nearby that I didnâ??t look up and down was my own. I walked down my street looking from house to house. I even looked in peopleâ??s backyards. I continued to walk until I got to the end of our street where the forest began. I kept walking. Deep into the trees until the street was no longer visible. At this point I could hardly breathe. I got to Michaelâ??s favorite spot and plopped down on the ground. My frantic breathing made it hard for me to think. But I would soon have to come up with a plan. Once my breathing leveled out I stood up. I looked around my surroundings wondering where she would run to. Or why sheâ??d run for that matter. My thoughts were soon interrupted by the sounds of weeping. I ran in the direction the sound was coming from. But every time Iâ??d run in a different direction it was become faint. That was until I stood right on the ledge. I looked down into the creek and I saw a dirty pink sweater laid across a rock. What scared me the most was that it was stained with blood.
