Tough Love Part 22; Part 2
Hereâ??s Part 22 Part 2â?¦â?¦. ~~~~~ Chapter 22; Part 2 Dining With Donovan As usual, chorus practice is a little hectic. There are many of us, and itâ??s a coed choral choir, so there are times when the guys wanna act stupid and the girls want to act hot, so Mrs. Vinson has to calm us down some. But all of us have that type of understanding that we respect and adore her, so most of the time, weâ??re only kidding around. The bad thing about choral practice today is that I wasnâ??t in the mood. I was really nervous, and I kept having nervous cold sweats. I would try to get peeks at him, but it would seem like heâ??d never look over at me. And I was wondering if our brief conversation was going through his mind at times. â??Lyric, pick up that face of yours!â? I looked up, and Mrs. Vinson was calling me out. She does that to us when we donâ??t get our act together. She even warns us, but we know what the deal is. I looked up, smiled, and said â??Okay.â? But I knew I was still distracted. Then things werenâ??t better when we had to go in our groups and practice our part in the song. Jay is in chorus with us, but sheâ??s a soprano. Donovan could be a tenor or baritone if he wanted, so he just flop around with the two. Right now, he was with me. Iâ??m an alto, though I knew I could be a soprano sometimes. Eventually, he ended up standing by me, but his friends were there also. So that didnâ??t make things any better. The â??coolâ? thing to do at the end of practice is to make hand signals to find out whoâ??s gonna be your ride home. I said Michael could swing by and get me once he left the studio. â??Iâ??m taking Lyric home.â? I looked up, and who woulda known that it would Donovan who gave the offer! I was astounded, yet nervous about his speculation. Then he walked over to me and waited as I gathered my things. As we walked out of the chorus room and through the halls to the parking lot, everything was silent. I finally looked up at him and told him I would need to make a phone call because I already had a ride. â??Ohh, Iâ??m sorry. I feel like Iâ??m an Indian giver.â? â??Thatâ??s not true when youâ??re stealing me away from my ride.â? I giggled. â??Okay. So tell me, whoâ??s the lucky guy?â? â??There is no lucky guy, Donovan,â? I stopped him, â??I just feel a little guilty.â? â??Because heâ??s the lucky guy?â? â??I guess.â? Then I kept it like that. As soon as I got to the next pay phone, I gave Michael a call but he didnâ??t pick up, so I gave the woman my name and she said sheâ??d tell him as soon as sheâ??s see him again. I know, youâ??re thinking how in the world do I have the number to such a big corporation like Epic Records, but for one, theyâ??re in the phone book! Thatâ??s the one I had to use because I hadnâ??t memorized the number he gave us. That leads me to tell you that he gave us an even more personal number he gave us so we could talk straight to the people, and not some lousy recording. Uncomfortably, I stuck my hands in my pockets. â??So whoâ??s the lucky guy?â? Donovan asked me again as I got back in the car. Once again, he wanted to hang out. He suggested a movie, but I said Iâ??d only get tired from watching something for so long. I love going to the movies, but it would only make me lazy if I was to watch it on a week day; especially on a Monday! So he decided on actually going to a nice restaurant. I told him that we didnâ??t have reservations and coworkers hate serving to teenagers. â??I was able to make reservations last night.â? â??So you had this mapped out?â? â??Jay had me take her there, and I was going to eat there today, whether you were with me or not. I just wanted to have some time to think.â? â??But you made me fetch a ride with you. And now I feel like leftovers since you taking me to a spot sheâ??s already been to.â? I jokeed. â??I knew youâ??d say that, but I saw an opportunity, and I was like â??What the heck? Why not?â?? So I did it.â? I bit my lip, a little excited as I saw the sign of the restaurant. I was about to get out when Donovan stopped me. â??And youâ??re not taking your books in there to do your homework.â? he said. â??Oh, I know. I wasnâ??t even planning on it, so there.â? Then I stuck my tongue out at him. I guess as you grow up, guys donâ??t care anymore about who sees, and they donâ??t care whether you like it or not. Theyâ??re gonna have your focus because THEY want it. So I went along with it as he held my hand, leading me to our table. â??Take that hat off.â? He whispered to me. â??No!â? I had on my tan cap, though IKNEW I should have it off. I must say my get up was just that. A get-up. I wore a gray pullover sweatshirt over a hot pink halter-top. He snatched the hat off my head, and as I reached to get it, he whispered to me to think smart, and not look dumb, so I refrained from choking him. â??Give me my hat back now.â? â??No.â? he shook his head, wagged his finger, and handed me my menu. â??Thank you.â? He said as the waiter handed us our food. I picked up my fork and started eating as I noticed he wasnâ??t using his fork to scrap up his food. I looked up and saw that he slipped his glasses on and watched me. â??Whaaat?â? I was irritated because Iâ??m sick of guys watch me eat! It makes me nervous! â??And whatâ??s with your glasses, white boy?â? He loves it when I tease him like that. Thatâ??s when I felt a kick under the table. â??Really. Eat.â? I directed him to do. â??Feed me.â? I squinted my eyes for a second, then I shook my head no. â??Yeaaah.â? Then he took my fork from me, scooped up some of his food, and fed it to me. â??How do ya like it?â? â??Iâ??m sorry, but I donâ??t let guys feed me.â? He smiled, then started laughing. â??I like a girl who feeds herself.â? â??Iâ??m sure you do, Donnie.â? He had a little twinkle in his eyes after I said that. I know that his brother still calls him that, so I know he adores it if I call him that. He showed his appreciation as he plopped my hat on my head, leaned over, and he tried to kiss me again. Now, despite this being a â??formal restaurantâ?, he tried showed public affection. As I thought of that, I hastily pushed him away, and wiped my lips off as if he had kissed me anyway. â??No.â? I shook my head firmly. â??Sorry.â? He said. His Waxing Crescent shaped eyes made me want to kiss him regardless as he took his glasses off. He rubbed his forehead, and put his glasses back on. â??I only agreed to meet up with you because I got a question.â? â??Yeah? What is it?â? â??Well, uh, som-sometime this month, thereâ??s this thing that my dad is going to. Itâ??s like the â??Mayorâ??s Ballâ??, when they honor honorable men and women on their roles in the community. Usually thereâ??s a tightly chosen guest list, but we can buy tickets. And a lot of the time, celebrities arenâ??t chosen because they win everything else, so this is kind of special.â? â??So?â? â??Would you go with me? My dad is jocking down my throat about it! I just need someone, Donovan.â? â??Iâ??ll see if I can.â? I looked up at him with a true look of disbelief. â??Ya see, Iâ??m not sure if my brother is going to get honored for anything, so until we know, weâ??re serving the people. But I should be able to dance with you on a few numbers. But I had no idea you were going to be there.â? â??Me either, until my father asked me, then backed up because a friend asked him. Now he wants me to ask someone.â? â??Iâ??ll try.â? Then he puckered his lips in his own little way that always made me giggle. I did the same, just being silly, then he took my offer as if I really meant it. He bit his lip and tried kissing me again. I darted my head out the way, but he took both of his hands on both sides and got a big smack of a kiss from me. I laughed as he tried kissing me with little pecks. â??Stop! I swear. Every time we go out, you think we have to kiss.â? I told him. â??Well, you did just say â??go outâ??.â? â??As in â??hang outâ??. Who says I wanted a kiss from you? What if I wanted one from my â??luck guyâ???â? â??Youâ??re lucky guy ainâ??t as lucky no more. Itâ??s all about me now.â? I shook my head. This boy make our differences funnier. â??Your brotherâ??s car?â? I asked as we were in my driveway. â??Yeah. You can tell, huh?â? â??Well, you ainâ??t got a ride of your own yet.â? â??True, but donâ??t rub it in.â? â??Hey, I ainâ??t got one, either.â? â??Thatâ??s because you never want to drive.â? He pulled on my ear then. â??Yeah.â? I said quietly, as I gently moved his hand from my ear. I looked down, bit my lip, and looked up at him. Then I kissed his cheek. He took advantage of that, and kissed me again. â??Mmm, stop.â? I softly mumbled. â??No, you want me. I donâ??t give a damn about what you said that Tuesday. We want each other.â? He whispered. â??But would you be my date to the thing?â? â??Yeah, Iâ??m work on that.â? He pecked my neck. â??See ya around.â? â??No, thereâ??s no see ya around. And stop going the opposite direction when you see me.â? â??Sorry.â? â??I hope.â? I closed the door, then I opened it, and told him with a smile, â??And donâ??t think you got lucky because we kissed either. Shut your mouth about it.â? â??You donâ??t think I talk about what goes on between us?â? â??I donâ??t know.â? â??Well, I donâ??t.â? Then he stroked my arm with his thumb. â??Hey, donâ??t forget your bags.â? I stood there for a second. â??Hey, you arenâ??t going to get them for me?â? â??You know Iâ??m scared of your father.â? Then Donovan added, â??It ainâ??t nothing like a black man being mad at his daughterâ??s white boyfriend.â? WAIT! Stop the record. BOYFRIEND?! â??I um, I didnâ??t know we were supposed to be an â??itemâ??. Just, have a nice life.â? I hurriedly got my things, and walked towards my house. â??Hey, why you gotta say it like that?â? Donovan shouted out. I bit my lip, nervous to say anything, then I knocked hard on my front door. Michael answered it. He looked over my head with no expression, then he looked down at me. He clenched his jaw a little and let out a breath. Then he moved out the way to let me in. I looked back at Donovan, and I could tell that his face was serious like Michaelâ??s. Michael put his hand on my back, and led me in the house. He closed the door and locked it after him. I watched his face as he turned around to me. Both of our faces were a little hard, strained, and expressionless. Then we swallowed at the same time. Iâ??m really afraid that heâ??ll hate me. Then I noticed my dad wasnâ??t here. â??Michael, you got the call?â? â??Yeahâ?¦.â? then he walked off. â??I guess you canâ??t get mad at me when I have my white girlfriends.â? â??Michael, really?â? â??Yeah. Really. I guess heâ??s your date to the ball?â? â??Yeah, maybe. But donâ??t assume weâ??re dating.â? â??Must be the guy you blew off. Iâ??m sure you reaaally made things up to him. â??Hey, wait a minuteâ??.â? I didnâ??t get to say anything else because Clarence walked in then. â??Did my little girl have a good day today?â? â??Yeah, and she found herself a date, too.â? I turned towards Michael with my hand on my hip, and clenched my own job. This time I squinted my eyes in vain. â??Shut up.â? I mouthed to him. â??Yeah, who?â? Dad asked. â??This guy.â? I said turning, towards him again. â??Well I would hope so.â? Then he smiled. â??So whatâ??s his name?â? â??Uh, Donovan.â? â??Hmm, Donovan. I donâ??t know if I heard that before.â? Shoot, I hope you havenâ??t, but if you knew about Ian, then you should know about Donovan. â??Last name?â? â??Canâ??t remember.â? â??But hey, why do it look like you just got here?â? â??She didnâ??t. She just kept her school stuff down here.â? â??Yeah I had a bad case of diarrhea.â? Way to go diarrhea! You saved me this time. â??Well, I hope you got enough energy to stay up with me.â? I looked at the clock, three minutes after eight. Great! â??Sure.â? â??What about you, Michael?â? â??Sure. Iâ??ll just shower first.â? Iâ??m estimating five minutes after he went up stairs, I followed. â??Hey, Iâ??m sorry you had to lie about this.â? â??Me too.â? He lightly touched my arm, shook his head in disappointment, then suddenly walked away. Once again in one day, a guy has walked away from me. What is he gonna do next? Kiss me?! ~~~~~ I hope yâ??all weâ??re SURPRISED! Vote up! Until next time guysâ?¦.. .Aariyan~ P.S. Waxing Crescent is a shape of the moon. It means when you smile, your eyes resemble them, meaning your eyes are squinty. Itâ??s like when Cam Gigandet smiles, but heâ??s not Donovan in this story.
