I'm Not Letting Go~~Chapter 4
I hope you guys are enjoying the story! Here's chapter 4 ! I I I hope you guys are enjoying the story! Here's chapter 4 ! ~~~Leslie As Michael went back to his SUV, I got into my car, but just sat there. I hated it when the chemo really hit me hard, and this was one of those times. It was about 10 minutes later as I still sat in my car with my head back against the headrest and my eyes closed, when I heard a soft tap on my window. I opened my eyes and found Michael standing there. I turned on the car so that I could open the window, then shut the car back off. He squatted down by my door, leaning his arms on the open window frame. " You okay?" he asked concerned. " Michael? Whatt're you doing still here?" I asked. " I wanted to make sure you got going okay and I guess it's a good thing I did." he said," You're not okay, are you?" " Oh I will be. I just need a few minutes I guess." I answered him. " Let me take you home," he said," I'd feel a lot better." " Oh I can't ask you to do that." I replied. " You didn't. I offered. Actually, I'm insisting." He said with a gentle smile and opened my car door. I turned the car back on, rolled up the window and got out, locking the door. I felt too lousy to put up much of a protest. Back again to the SUV we went and Michael closed my door once I was in, then went around to the other side and got in beside me." Just tell Max your address and the GPS will tell him the way." he said to me. I did as he instructed then took a couple slow breaths and looked at Michael," I really appreciate this." " Leslie, who's gonna take care of you when you get home?" " Me." "You don't have someone to come cook for you or help you out? A friend or someone?" " No, I just tend to zap things in the microwave these days. I never seem to feel much like cooking anymore." " Pack a bag and come back with me for couple of days," he said," Then you won't be alone..." " That's sweet Michael, but I'll be fine, really." " Indulge me." he said," I wanna help and I'm sure you get lonely all by yourself, just like I do. I swear you can trust me. It's all on the up and up." " Oh I know, I trust you." I told him," I dunno tho, Michael, chemo makes me pretty sick for a few days--it's not pretty." I smiled. " You won't change my mind, so you might as well start thinking about what to pack." he said with a smile. " You're pushy aren't ya?" I chuckled. " Only when I want something." He chuckled back. " And you wanna watch me throw up for two days." I grinned at him. " Sure, you're probably cute puking your guts out." he grinned back. " You're not a well man." I teased him. After a while, we pulled up in front of my little place and Michael offered to come in and help me pack, but I told him I wouldn't be long. I was going to stay with Michael Jackson--my chemo buddy. When I came out with my suitcase, he was quick to hop out of the car and take it from me," Here, let me." he said grabbing my back," Jeez woman, what's in here? A dead body?" he teased me. " Oh hush." I replied and we got into the SUV again and headed toward where Michael was staying. " You know," Michael began," This is the longest we've spent together." " Sick of me yet?" I asked. " Hardly," he said with a smile and laid his hand atop mine," So, what's your favorite movie?" " Seven Brides for Seven Brothers--an old musical." I replied. " Oh! I've seen that. The dancing in it is just brilliant! Great choreography!" he beamed," The barn raising dance just amazes me every time I watch it." " Me too. I always watch a different person through it and they all are just incredible. So what's your favorite movie?" " Peter Pan." he answered instantly. " I've never seen it." I confessed. " What?" he seemed shocked," NEVER??" " Nope. I didn't get to see many movies growing up. We were always working. My family had restaurants and we were working there when I was like 7-- " You were a working kid too?" " Nothing like you," I laughed," But yeah, we worked as kids." " We have so much in common it's weird." he said," If you're up to it later, we'll watch Peter Pan, okay? I'd love for you to see it." " That would be fun." " Great!" he smiled," Okay, answer quick. Your favorite food-- " " Chinese." " Your favorite flower--" " Hyacinth." " Your favorite song--" " That's All." " That's All? By Genesis?" " No, the old 40's song." " Ohhhh that one!" he said," Lemme try to remember it... 'I can only give you love that lasts forever And a promise to be near each time you call And the only heart I own For you and you alone That's all, that's all' Michael sang. I was smiling gently and felt tears in my eyes. He sang so sweetly and softly. It was just beautiful. Simply beautiful. " That the one?" he asked. I nodded," Yes. That was beautiful, Michael. Thank you." I said as a tear fell down my cheek. " Hey, don't cry," he said with a little smile, stopping my tear with his fingertip," I won't sing anymore if it makes you cry." " It's not--I just love the song and you made it so beautiful." " They're beautiful words," he said," The old standards are the best. Done by the true masters. Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett---" " Oh, I love all of them." " Not exactly 'Beat It', huh?" he said with a grin. " A little different," I agreed with a smile," But you've achieved things no one else ever has or will. Even the old masters." " Oh somebody'll break my records one day." he said. " Yeah, you will." I smiled at him. " Thank you," he said with a smile and a little laugh," That's a sweet thing to say." Michael kissed my cheek," No Barry slobber." " Oh stop it." I laughed. " Did he slip ya the tongue?" he teased, leaning over and whispering. " No." I laughed. " You were hopin' though, weren't ya?" he giggled. " Oh, will you shut up?" I laughed. Michael began to sing," Leslie and Barry, sittin' in a tree, K- I-S-S-I-N-G---" " Do you wanna get smacked?" I smiled at him. " Oh yeah, in the worst way!" he chuckled. " You keep it up, fella, and you're gonna get your wish!" I told him with a playful threatening tone. " Oooh feisty!" he giggled and turned away, looking out the window," Ohhhh Barry-" he said in a girlie voice and made kissy sounds. I gave him a slap on the shoulder and he burst out laughing," Hey, you slapped me!" " You're lucky it was only a slap, pal." I laughed. " Okay, okay, I'll behave. Shesh!" he smiled and we continued to talk, but about things we saw out the windows, until--" So, how come you're in love with Barry?" he teased and began to laugh," His teeth? His hair--" I playfully grabbed his shirt and jerked him toward me," Now look you---" " Ooooh, the feisty side's back!" he grinned. " If you mention Barry Gibb's name ONCE more, I AM gonna hurt you, buddy." I teased him. " OOooh, hurt me baby!" he teased back. " Nah, you're too eager!" I smiled back and let him go with a little shove. Michael laughed and scooted back closer to me, putting his arms around me and with his chin resting on my shoulder," Sure you don't wanna hurt me---just a little?" he grinned. " I MAY if you don't behave." I said and he giggled, kissing my cheek. " Yes dear." he teased and released me. The rest of the ride, we talked and he no longer teased me about Barry. He always looked happy though. Here sat Michael Jackson. THE Michael Jackson, alive and well and now my friend. I could understand now why people were so enthralled by him. He was sweet, innocent, charming and fun. That was the Michael I knew. Not the performer, not the "King of Pop". Just Michael. We arrived at the most expensive hotel in the city and Max got my bag as Michael and I got out of the car. We went inside and quickly to an elevator which stopped on the 23rd floor. We walked to the room at the end of the hall marked 2323 and Max opened the door then Michael and I went in. It was an incredible suite--just like an apartment, decorated very expensively. Max sat my bag down and Michael let him go for the night. Once the door was closed, Michael locked the locks and leaned his back against the locked door, smiling at me," Welcome." " It's a beautiful room. Just beautiful." " Thank you," he said," Please, make yourself at home." " Thank you," I answered and sat down on the couch," Michael, does Max know who you are?" " No, I'm Michael Kelley to him. Just an impersonator who pays well and has this fixation on Michael Jackson," he smiled as he sat down on the couch too," There's only a handful of people who know. My mother, Janet, Barry and a few other people who helped me disappear. Plus my best friend." " Who's that?" " You, silly." he nudged me with his shoulder, smiling," Don't you know anything?" " Chemo brain." I smiled. " Would you like something to drink or nibble?" he asked," I'm gonna call room service." " Sure, I'd love a coke zero or something diet." " Coming up. Anything to eat? You haven't eaten today, have you?" " No, but I-" " Sit tight," he said as he picked up the phone and pressed a few numbers, then began to speak in a deeper voice with a British accent," Yes, this is Mr. Kelley in 2323, would you be so kind as to send up a couple of cokes, coke zero's and a fruit and cheese tray? Yes, with would be great...thank you." he hung up and I chuckled. " English now, are we?" " Reminds ya of Barry, hmm?" he teased. " Michael Jackson--" I picked up a throw pillow and did just that. I smacked him with it as he laughed like crazy. "Ooooh, feisty's returned yet again! You gonna hurt me now?" he grinned. " You wait pal, you'll get yours." " Oh I will?" he smiled at me in an almost flirty way, then sat down closer to me," Promise?" " Oh, definitely." I answered and we each looked away at the same time. What had just happened there? Were we flirting? US? " Um, lemme show you where you can put your things," he said getting up and grabbing my bag, leading me to a beautiful bedroom done in all cream and peach," So, uh, this is your room and there's a bath through that door," he pointed. " Thank you, Michael. It's a gorgeous room." " No thanks needed," he told me," I uh, I'll just give you some time and I'm gonna go wait for room service..." he said as he slowly backed out of the room," So...I'll see you in a few, then..." " Right." I answered him. Michael closed the door as he left, then leaned against the closed door for a moment with his eyes closed.'C'mon Michael, get it together,' he thought to himself,'She's your friend and your life is a screwy mess. Quit thinking what you're thinking' After a little while, I went back out and found Michel on the couch with our room service in front of him. " Oh!" he jumped up," Have a seat." " I hope you don't mind, I put my slippers on." I told him. " Garfields!" He chuckled. " Hey, they were cute and I like cats." I defended my choice with a smile. " No, no, wait here!" he said excitedly and ran into another room then returned a minute later wearing "ODIE" slippers!" Ta Dahhhh!" he exclaimed happily. " Oh my gosh, no way! Odie!" I laughed. " Aren't they just me?" he grinned. " Oh, they are, they are!" I replied. We nibbled on the fruit and cheese and as it grew later, Michael put Peter Pan on for us to watch. I would sneak glances at him through it and I could see how much he loved the movie. I'd always heard that it was one of his favorites, but watching him watching it, you could truly see HOW much it meant to him. When it ended, he smiled at me," Well?" " Magical." I replied," Thank you for sharing it with me." " Oh, thank you for letting me," he said," I hoped you'd like it as much as I do." " I can see why you do." I said. " Should I order dinner for us?" " I'm ok with what we have, but you go ahead if you like." I said to him. " Nah, I'm good with what we have too," he said to me," So, do you feel up to anything else? Another movie? TV? Scrabble?" " Oh, I love Scrabble." " Great, I'll grab the game." he said, " I usually play alone, two handed." " Me too!" I answered. Michael left the room for a moment, then quickly returned with the game. We played twice with each of us winning once, then we played our third game. " C-R-A-Z-Y" he smiled, putting the letters on the board," I HATE getting the Z." " I'd rather have the Z than the Q." I answered then put my word on the board." L-O-V-E." " Good word," he smiled," You should win the game with that one." " Let's see," I said adding up the points," Yep, my game." " Congratulations." he smiled and I sat back on the couch, laying my head back. I was worn out. Chemo really drains your body, physically. " Hey, are you okay?" he asked, touching my arm. " Just beat." I answered. " Maybe you should rest. I can put the game up." " Maybe you're right. I'm sure I won't sleep, but that's typical." " You didn't call the hypnotherapist?" " I never remember until I can't sleep." I smiled. " Girl, what am I gonna do with you?" he smiled and stood up, holding his hand out to me to help me up. I got up and he held my hand as he walked me to my room and I turned to face him," Tonight was fun, Michael. Thank you for inviting me." " Oh, I should be thanking you. I've had the best time I've had in a long, long time." he smiled and squeezed my hand," Now, if you need anything-anything at all, just let me know, okay?" " Okay, thank you." " Well--" " Well--" I repeated. Michael gave me a gentle hug and I hugged him back. " Remember," he said," If you need me, just shout." " I'll remember." I answered and we released one another," Good night, Michael." " Good night, Leslie. God bless your dreams." " And yours."
