Itâ??s now 2000 and itâ??s New Yearâ??s Eve. Alanna is now 5 going on 6 in a couple months, Stormi is 13, Michael and I are now both 42 (if you havenâ??t caught on both our birthdayâ??s are in the same month). When I look at myself in the mirror now, I still look like I did 20 years ago. We were all in mine and Mikeâ??s bedroom watching a movie on our TV, the girls were arguing on which one to watch. Stormi: I say we donâ??t watch that and we watch Predator Alanna: No! I want to watch Rush hour! Stormi: No, stop being a baby!- Michael: Hey! Stormi: what? Michael: Sheâ??s only 5 years old, Iâ??m not gonna let her watch Predator thatâ??ll give her nightmares until sheâ??s 14 Stormi: Come on dad! Michael: I said no Stormi: Dad- Michael: Stormi, stop it Stormi: ughâ?¦whatever letâ??s watch Rush hour Alanna already had the movie in the player, so all we had to do was push play. Alanna cuddled up between Michael and I with her stuffed rabbit and Stormi was down by our feet. Stormi: I hope Alanna can stay up past 10 this time Alanna: I will Stormi: yeah if you do, Iâ??ll drink hot sauce Alanna: (Smiles) youâ??re gonna drink hot sauce then! Stormi: (laughs) yeah I know I ainâ??t Alanna: is too Me: (shakes my head) I mean Iâ??d really like Alanna to stay up past 10 this time. For the past 3 years sheâ??s been asleep at 10 always missing the ball drop. She told me early today that she was gonna do it, stay up all night with us. We were sitting there watching the movie when Alanna had a sudden out burst again. Alanna: Momma Me: Yes? Alanna: youâ??re petty Me: (Smiles) thanks baby girl but I ainâ??t as pretty as you Alanna: (giggles and puts her head on my lap) Stormi: (looking at the wall) Michael: Storm Stormi: (not paying attention) Michael: Storm! (Kicks her shoulder lightly) hey Stormi: Huh? What? (Looks at Michael) Michael: You getting tired yet? Stormi: Me, pshâ?¦.no We watched two movies, because thatâ??s all we had time for. The girls always had to go downstairs to get something to eat, drink or go to the bathroom. Which I had to do myself, minus the eating every 4 minutes. We got Rush hour and E.T. in until it was 10 minutes to midnight. Everybody was in the bedroom but Stormi. Me: Alanna, whereâ??s your sister? Alanna: she went downstairs Me: about an hour ago, Iâ??m gonna go check on her (I got up off the bed and went downstairs) Alanna: daddy can you turn the TV on now! Michael: yes (smiles and turns the TV back on and flipâ??s it to channel 16 Dick Clarkâ??s New Yearâ??s special) I went downstairs and I heard heavy breathing I walked into the living room and found Stormi sound asleep on the couch. I laughed to myself about that, because she was rubbing it in Alannaâ??s face that she always falls asleep at 10, looks like Stormiâ??s out this year. I smiled and headed back upstairs. Alanna: Daddy Michael: yeah? Alanna: when that man said, â??itâ??s tra-tra Michael: tradition? Alanna: yeah that word, but when he said that and it was to kiss your lover whatâ??s dat mean? Michael: (Smiles) that means I have to kiss the one I love and have spent my whole life with when the ball drops (winks at her) Alanna: that means youâ??re gonna kiss mommy?!!! (she looked at him kind of excited) Michael: (Smiles) yeah Alanna: Ooo! (She giggled) I walked back into the bedroom and sat back down next to Michael and Alanna was sitting in front of us. Me: whatâ??d I miss? Michael: (Smiles) nothin yet Me: (looks at the clock) we got 5 minutes, you excited Alanna? Alanna: Yeah! Michael: (smiles and looks at the TV) I remember him back in 86 Me: so do I. We sat there talking about Dick Clark until it came down to one minute, then 30 seconds, then it came down to 15. And thatâ??s when everyone started to count down. Did I mention Michael has never kissed me when the ball dropped? to be continued... not until i get 10 votes ;)
