Tough Love Part 96; Part 5 (1)
Chapter 96; Part 5 (1) December 29th I was having this eerie dream, but it was probably Karma saying â??I know huh, Iâ??m a bitch and so are you. This is why weâ??re on the same boat now.â? What was going wrong was that me and M.J. was having a great time together. We were laughing, having fun together, but suddenly out of nowhere, he gets mad at me and starts saying, â??Liar! Cheater!â? and he starts accusing me for all the wrong Iâ??ve done (and the wrong Iâ??m talking about is the fact that while Iâ??ve been with him since November 12th, at the same time, Iâ??ve been sowing my wild oats. I havenâ??t been doing right and nowâ?¦maybe now Iâ??m PAYING for it). The first person that came to mind was Nick. Someway somehow, I jumped from my bed. It had to be 4 A.M. in the morning, but I didnâ??t care. I could at least try. I grabbed a blanket, got the cordless phone, and started dialing as I moved to the back of the porch. â??Hello?â? â??Hi, is this Nicholas?!â? â??No this isnâ??t but whoâ??s calling?â? â??Oh hi. Iâ??m a friend of his from school.â? â??Iâ??m sorry but my son is still sleeping.â? I donâ??t know howâ?¦L.A. is about three hours ahead. It should be daylight right now! â??Not to be disrespectfulâ?¦but this is important.â? â??Iâ??ll call you back when he wakes up.â? CLICK. REALLY?! JUST what I NEED! The phone rings in my hand. I answer it immediately. â??Hello?â? â??Is this Lyric?â? â??Nicholas?â? â??Whoa, this must be something serious if youâ??re calling me by my whole name. Whatâ??s up?â? â??Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden? Whatâ??s making you do this?â? â??What do you mean? Lyric I told you before that since youâ??ve gotten back, you really caught my eye. But do you know how rotten I felt? While I was with Naima, you were flirting with Donovan and I couldnâ??t interfere. But nowâ?¦I canâ??t care anymore. I have to be loved too.â? â??Nickâ?¦â? I rub my hand through my hair and down my neck, â??I have a boyfriend. I canâ??t just break things off with M.J. every time I have a little feelings for you. I just canâ??t! We have a good thing going and I want to STAY with him.â? â??But you just admitted it. You like me.â? â??Yeah boy. I liked you when I got back but you brushed me off and like you said, you were in a relationship. And speaking of liking you, there were a lot of other people that didnâ??t look bad either. I stopped then, â??BABY?!â? â??If you donâ??t mind me calling you that. Listen Lyric, I understand where youâ??re coming from. You think youâ??re tied down in this solid relationship, but the truth is that youâ??re interested in someone else, just like I was when it was me. But I like you and I know you like me. You showed that to me in that closet, when I fed you a little bit of chocolate, when I took you out for pizza. Lyric Iâ??m not keeping these tabs to blackmail you Iâ??m just showing you that you couldâ??ve been say no but you didnâ??t. Youâ??ve let this go on for a while because you felt something too.â? Iâ??ve been wanting to know.â? â??Okayâ?¦January 4th is when itâ??s going to be held.â? â??What day is that?â? â??Thursday.â? â??Thursdayâ?¦Thursday is an interesting day.â? â??Itâ??s better than your typical Friday or Saturday.â? Good thing it isnâ??t going to be on THAT Saturday. â??Youâ??re not busy on that Thursday are you?â? â??Not that I know ofâ?¦.â? â??Sweeeet. I can always call you back orâ??â? â??Noâ?¦if I need anything then Iâ??LL call you back. Oh and sorry about waking your mom so early.â? â??Itâ??s okay. We were just about to have breakfast. And I was sleep until I heard the commotion down in the kitchen.â? â??Iâ??m sorry about that. I just felt like I needed to get up and call you. It was urgent.â? I sigh, â??Iâ??ve been a bitch since I havenâ??t been able to pick who I wanted to be withâ?¦.Iâ??m serious Nick. I just donâ??t know where my head has been in the pastâ?¦two months.â? â??I already told you Lyric. It doesnâ??t take a rocket scientist to figure out that youâ??ve already had feelings for other people. You never got them straightened out and now you started a relationship with someone else. Thatâ??s never goodâ?¦.Are you hearing me out, Alaric?â? â??Yeah Nickâ?¦I hear you.â? â??I just wanted you to know thereâ??s other people out there for you that you might care for more.â? â??I know.â? â??Oh and before I forget we should leave at seven to get to the beach.â? â??So whatâ?¦youâ??re driving?â? â??If you donâ??t mind, sure.â? â??Yeah okay, fine.â? I couldnâ??t even go to bed anymore. Today felt different. For one, it was my grandmotherâ??s birthday. Itâ??s December 29th so she turned 58 today. Second, I just woke up in the middle of the wee hours of the day to call a friend to deny my growing feelings for him. Third, I started thinking about Donovan. I often think about him whenever I get close to Nickâ?¦I know WEIRD. To be honest, I donâ??t even remember the last time I talked to him. Getting the cordless phone again, I prop my foot on the ottoman and I had the T.V. at a low volume with cartoons showing. I called up his place. â??Hello?â? â?¦.. â??Is that you Lyric?â? â??Hey.â? He takes a breath, â??Whatâ??s going on? Howâ??s the leg?â? â??The leg is fine. I think Iâ??m impressing my at-home doctor. Iâ??m having a wonderful time here in Hawaii. Iâ??m not even going to lie about that. But I miss you too. I think Iâ??mâ??â? â??Okay Lyric donâ??t play with me.â? â??Noâ?¦no itâ??s not even like that Donovanâ?¦Donnie. I know I shouldnâ??t be talking to you about this over the phone.â??â? â??Yeah.â? â??But I couldnâ??t wait another day. And as you see another moment. I dint want you to think Iâ??ve forgotten you or I donâ??t care.â? â??Yeahâ?¦.â? â??Am I making any sense?â? He laughs, â??Honestly noâ?¦but then yes. I understand what you â??chu trynna say.â? â??I thought things were complicated a few months agoâ?¦but nowâ?¦.â? â??I know you donâ??t miss me being around the bushâ?¦because I donâ??t miss you being around the bushâ?¦.You get tired of that after a while Lyric. Know what we shouldâ??ve done.â? I popped my lips, â??What?â? â??Worked things out between us. All we were going through were the teen angst that we as teens go through. That shouldâ??ve have caused us to grow this apart.â? Donovan doesnâ??t believe in regrets. I mean itâ??s something he barely admits to. â??I know I donâ??t really say this much, but I wished things went better. And I donâ??t like to blame you for anything, but I just REALLY wished youâ??d crack your tough exterior in August, when the school year was beginningâ?¦.I just really wanted to be your boyfriend my last year of high school. Is that too much to ask?â? â?¦.. â??Is it Lyric?â? â??No.â? â??And with me probably going into the Air Force while doing music on the side, I really wanted one last thing to make my senior year the best. Iâ??m already a year younger than a lot of my future companions. All I wanted was a rocking band, glorious friends, stable family and health, and a beautiful girlfriend. Lyric, youâ??re that girl.â? I wiped a tear. â??So itâ??s true?â? â??I meanâ?¦my dad worked in a uniform of some type. He was always wearing a suit, though he doesnâ??t even like to wear them all the time. Thatâ??s not in his nature. Then my brother is a cop. So I guess itâ??s MY turn to put on a uniform. I mean Iâ??ve been learning how to work on planes, but at the same time, Iâ??ve been thinking about going into the Combat Controls with the Air Force. You do know that that is?â? â??Yes Donovan. Basically youâ??re so talented that you want to be an engineer for military planes or you actually want to do the Air Force thing by actually jumping out of planes and doing your own thing.â? Hopefully Iâ??m right. Iâ??m about spot-on. â??Yeahâ?¦youâ??re right about all of that, but youâ??re missing my point right now. I love you, and if I do goâ?¦Iâ??ma hate to leave you, so I need to know how you feel about me before I leave.â? â??Youâ??re not giving me an ultimatum.â? â??I am. Lyric, Iâ??m not getting any younger and neither are you. Iâ??m going to be seventeen in a matter of less than two months and Iâ??m going to be graduating in May. Thatâ??s not really far off. Iâ??m going to be in my last semester of high school. I REALLY need things to be better Lyric. I love you but I donâ??t have a lot of time left to show you.â? â??â?¦Why do you need an ultimatum so bad?â? â??Because if I know how you really feel, then it can change thingsâ?¦forever.â? â??Hoooww?â? I didnâ??t even say anything after that. I didnâ??t even know what to say. So I just played with my ear or my hair as the silence became louder than my own breathing. â??You know my grandmaâ??s birthday today.â? â??Oh yeahâ?¦well tell youâ??re rocking grandmother I said happy birthday today.â? â??Iâ??ll be sure to do that.â? I give a little smile, then I hear footsteps but I already knew it was Michael. I look up as he walks over to me. â??Hey Donovan, Iâ??ll have to call you back later.â? â??Okay Lyric, bye.â? He barely got to say that before I hanged up. â??Need the phone?â? He shakes his head. â??Dr. Newman will be here soon so if you want breakfast, you need to get up and tell me.â? â??Okay.â? I got up to head to the kitchen while Michael was already there. â??Michael.â? â??Yeah.â? â??Are we okay?â? â??Yeah. Weâ??re fine.â? Then while I was still looking at him, Michael started grabbing things from the cabinet. While we were eating breakfast, things didnâ??t change much either. But I couldnâ??t take him scraping up another piece of his food. Silence can be deadly. â??I had to talk to himâ?¦Donovan is a lot like you Michael. He isnâ??t willing to share himself with everyone,â? he didnâ??t say anything and I had actually forgotten what I was going to say; I lost my train of thought. He had even gotten up to start on the dishes. â??He says stuff to me that he isnâ??t willing to tell anyone. Michael?â? He still stands there stubbornly as he washed the dishes. I just shake my head and turn away. â??He isnâ??t DAMN near like ME!â? I turn around. â??Got it Lyric? Donovan isnâ??t like me and Iâ??m not like him.â? I folded my arms. â??Really, then how different is he from you? Just tell me that Michael, huh? I know youâ??re jealous. Do you see him as a threat?â? â??You know, shouldnâ??t you be thinking that about your BOYFRIEND? I mean your CURRENT boyfriend.â? M.J.â??s image comes in my mind briefly before I come back to reality. â??Michael Iâ??m not talking about him right now. Iâ??M talking about Donovan Orlando Cooper.â? The bell rings. So much for getting my answer now! I go back to the single sofa. â??Well, well, well looks like someone is up and looking alert. How are you this morning Lyric?â? I glance at Michael. â??Splendid Newman,â? I look at Doc again. â??I feel wanted.â? â??Wellâ?¦thatâ??s good.â? I did the same tests so he could see if I was improving. â??Think Iâ??ll be off these things by the time I go back to school?â? â??When do you get back in school?â? â??I donâ??t know, I think the 15th. Martin Luther King, Jr.â??s birthday.â? â??Awwâ?¦why are all of you going back so late?â? â??Well we got out late so late so I guess thatâ??s why. I guess itâ??s payback.â? â??Thatâ??s in three weeks. If you keep it up, youâ??ll be able to mobilize WITHOUT the crutchesâ?¦but thatâ??ll only be when youâ??re at home. Since youâ??re going to be at school for eight plus hours, youâ??re likely to put more pressure on your leg and decrease your progress. You do have an elevator key right?â? â??Yeah, one of those keys for if youâ??re disables, yeah my school got one of those.â? â??Well youâ??ll need it.â? â??â?¦For how long Doc?â? â??How many months?â? I swallow, â??Yeah.â? â??Umâ?¦how about to May.â? â??DOCTOR!â? â??Oh Iâ??m just kidding,â? he smiles, â??The latest will be to the beginning of March. But Lyric youâ??re doing well and I need you to keep it that way.â? â??What about this cast though?â? â??I give you until the end of February, beginning of March.â? â??Ohâ?¦okay.â? Michael told me he was going to be going to the office to see about withdrawing our attendance in the beach house. By now I knew we would be leaving Hawaii for good on New Yearâ??s Eve. Great whoop, I donâ??t have any plans for New Yearâ??s Eve so now it looks like Iâ??m going to have to get some. â??Are you SURE Michael?â? â??Iâ??m leaving, but Iâ??ll be backâ?¦.Iâ??ll call you.â? Once I saw him back away and his car was out of sight, I called Jermaine. I needed to know where the location would be today so he could wrap up this story about the Jacksons. Plus now Iâ??m not so fond of Michael. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey guys, I didnâ??t make this part to bore you. This is some of the things Iâ??ve been meaning to say, and whether it was going to be said in this part or not, it wouldâ??ve came out eventually. At the same time, I felt like these little things I keep throwing in usually come back in a later part in the story. I believe that makes the story better. More to come! --A.
