Chapter 72 The Uneventful Week Leading Up to the Big Apple â??You still coming?â? â??Yeah, I am. Iâ??m getting ready right now.â? I tell Patricia. The girls pick me up after gushing over Michael again. â??How was the date?â? Pat asks. â??It wasâ?¦okay.â? â??Spill.â? I told them. â??And he raised his voice at me sorta. Twice. You can say he didnâ??t get a goodnight kiss.â? Thatâ??s when Patricia tells me Jerome showed up. â??I didnâ??t even see him.â? â??He didnâ??t get chance to say anything to you.â? â??Oh.â? â??Iâ??ll tell him not to say anything.â? â??Good. Do that.â? After we were silent for a little, I ask about Austin. â??Weâ??re still working on it. I mean Iâ??m going to sit by him, but weâ??re not doing it right nowâ?¦if yâ??all to care to know.â? â??Well thank heavens!â? Danielle says and we all give a whooping high-five. The guys were taking a water break and I kept dipping in the refrigerator. â??Greedy butt.â? I promised Michael I would bake cookies with him and when Nick offhanded offers to drive me home, it reminds me that I have to tell him not to show up that late at my house anymore. So I let him, and I tell him as well. â??I really was just driving and thought about it.â? â??Yeah itâ??s some of my fault too. I didnâ??t have to go to the door.â? â??Then I guess Iâ??ll just see you tomorrow, after school for thee magic practice.â? â??Thatâ??ll work.â? â??Hey, but I have an offer to ask you.â? I was opening the door when he said that. â??Hey Nick, thatâ??s nice and all, but I donâ??t really care right now about invites and stuff. My weekend is packed anyways.â? That moment solidified the fact that I didnâ??t feel like being bothered with. â??Nothing happened between us, so donâ??t ask.â? I tell the girls. Patricia whimpers, but I donâ??t care. Luckily he was smart enough not to call me because I wasnâ??t going to answer. But I let him continue. â??Aha! I see that tear in your eye.â? I laugh and wipe it away. â??And Iâ??m sorry baby.â? He steps up and we kiss. â??You know I must care. Luckily there was petition signing or coach would have my ass right now for being late.â? I hug him. â??Go on to practice. And here, hereâ??s an old granola bar so you can say I was here for you.â? â??Okay,â? he laughs and leans over to kiss me again. â??Bye.â? â??Have a great practice.â? Then I turn the opposite direction and look for Nick so we could practice. The week basically went by dreadfully slow. But I was psyched that Michael was going to pick me up right after school. â??I thought the day would never come!â? Janet says. â??I know! And Iâ??m so happy itâ??s finally here.â? I knew we were on some private airline or something because it was only us on the plane and it was very intimate. â??Were you nervous to go up to New York with my brother?â? â??I still am!â? I say. Michael is checking to make sure that everything is fine, so itâ??s just me and Jan. â??Man I wish you told me you were going to get braids on me.â? â??And donâ??t they look lovely?â? Jan says. â??They really do.â? Michael walks up to us. â??Ready?â? â??Iâ??m ready.â? â??Take good care of her, Michael.â? Katherine says and hugs all of us. Dad showed up with her and he came to pay his last wishes until we got back. â??Make sure everything goes according to plan, Janet.â? Dad tells her. â??Of course Mr. Swan.â? â??Clarence,â? he corrects her. But as Dad and Katherineâ??s figure gets smaller as we rise in the air, I wave to them like my dear life depended on it. â??Arenâ??t you going to sit with us?â? â??Sure.â? I follow Jan and sit next to her as they pop in a movie. After a little while, she says sheâ??s got to use it and go to the bathroom, leaving me and Michael alone for the first time. â??Excited?â? â??I actually am!â? We didnâ??t talk for a little. â??Soâ?¦your album. When is it coming out again?â? â??In about another week.â? â??How do you feel?â? â??Well me and my brothers are psyched about it. Do you think itâ??ll be a success?â? â??By what Iâ??ve heard Michael, I know itâ??s gonna be. Donâ??t worry.â? â??But some of our other albums havenâ??t been as successful.â? â??Maybe because yâ??all werenâ??t with Motown, but I think yâ??all have found yâ??alls niche now. Donâ??t worry. And if you want me to, Iâ??ll be the first to buy.â? He chuckles. â??I hope so.â? â??I know so. So after this albumâ??s release, I guess yâ??all will be on tour.â? â??Yeah, nationwide if not international. But things really need to go well for that to happen.â? â??Do you have any demos with you?â? â??Why would I?â? â??So I can hear one.â? â??Wellâ?¦I DID want you to hear another one.â? â??Then play it.â? He gets up, plays the tape recorder. I grab his hand. â??Dance with me.â? I wrap my arms around his shoulder and his arms tighten around my waist. â??Whatâ??s this song about?â? â??Listen to it.â? So we keep swaying to it. Then he turns me, then dips me before the climax of the song. â??Jack sound like you, Michael.â? â??You could say that if you want.â? â??Itâ??s called â??Thatâ??s What You Get For Being Politeâ??. Basically my life story since Iâ??ve met you on September 22nd, Miss Lyric.â? â??Well Iâ??m sorry.â? â??Donâ??t be.â? After talking for a little longer, Michael says, â??Hey, Janet has been in that bathroom for a long time now.â? â??Iâ??ll find her.â? â??No let me do it.â? Michael gets up. I turn around and watch, but it didnâ??t take long because I hear Janet screech when sheâ??s found out and Michael picks her up. â??Come on, Donk.â? He tells her. And for the rest of the trip up to the Big Apple, we make sure Jan doesnâ??t go anywhere. But on our way up there, we would point out which state we thought we were in. â??Weâ??re in New York!â? the pilot tells us. Uh oh!
