Amber's Heart Part 12
Sorry guys. I was on some kind of Writerâ??s Block, so I was brain-dead for some time, but here goesâ?¦.Aariyan. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like the coaches promised, we got the brochures and permission slips. There were fancy-looking kinds of pictures with autumn colors. Emerald green, copper sun, deep red velvet, and intense orange leaves decorated the corners. I just wish the rest of my day was that lavish, â??cause it wasnâ??t. I had an intense expression over my whole body. That may sound incoherent to you, but itâ??s the truth. By the end of reading, my neck was terribly stiff, and my mind was racingâ??I didnâ??t like the feel Lloyd gave me while we were wrestling. I really didnâ??t like it at all. But as he was passing my locker, and as I hid my face in its frame, I saw such a calm, caring person. But then, Muscle? You gotta be kiddinâ??! I mean, that made me utterly mad and disgusted. ?: So, how was it, Amber? I turned around, and before I could determine who it was, I got a firm kiss. Whoever it was hands seemed to go right through the dress, since the hands were cold. Michael stepped back from me and grinned. I knew it was a dumb thing to say the moment I said it, but I couldnâ??t help it. Me: Michael? Michael: Who you thought, Lloyd? Me: Of course not! I wasnâ??t expecting such a kiss. You caught me off guard. Michael: Then let me catch you on guard. He barely tapped my lips this time. Me: (sarcastically) Thank you. That was very sentimental, donâ??t you think? Michael: You know, Halloween is coming up, and I wanted to be a famous couple. Ma doesnâ??t want me to go to the party, but I am anyway. Me: Oh yeah, who? Michael: I want you to guess first. We used to watch them on TV. Best friends were red headed and jet black. I knew who it was, alright. But I wanted to see him get frustrated. Me: Who, Michael? I was shuffling through my locker, acting like there was more things I needed to take home than what was really needed. Michael: Guess. Iâ??m not giving up any more clues. Me: What, Hansel and Gretel? Michael: Cute. Me: Who? We had no cable with me growing up. I lied. Michael: For goodness sakes! I want you to be my Wilma! Me: Oh, Fred! I went to kiss him on the cheek. But I didnâ??t get the chance. Michael: Priscilla already called dibs on Pebbles, and Warren is supposed to be Bam Bam. Me: Oh Michael, that sounds really REALLY neat. He read my eyes. Michael: Okay, thereâ??s going to be a but. Butâ?¦. Me: My cousin is having this mystery thing at her college with my mom. And I have to go trick-or-treating with Beanie. Michael: Thereâ??s going to be a sleep over the night of, if we go to sleep. Me: WE? Itâ??s coed. Michael: You know if its coed, it has to be at Priscillaâ??s. Her dad is a retired prison security guard. Me: Well, what does he do now? Michael: Heâ??s some kind of trainer. Me: Wouldnâ??t it maybe be the other way around? Michael: He was in the Vietnam War before being a prison security guard. Me: Wow, impressive. Michael: Her mom is a zoologist. But sheâ??s going to be looking at endangered species in the jungles of South America. Me: Awesome! Michael: She also has two older bros. Me: God Michael, you know much about Priscilla Mayhem. Michael: Letâ??s just say: sixth grade, Priscilla Mayhem had her eyes set on more than just my A- math project. I started laughing. Michael: And she could talk my ear off. Me: She looks to be older than you. Than any of us. Michael: May 13th. I gave him a look like â??Good golly, Michael.â? Michael: What? Michael: You have to go, Amber. The theme was to dress up like old cartoon characters we used to watch. Me: I know Michael, but Mom really wants to know how Sandyâ??s doing in school. And Beanie really wants to go trick-or-treating. Michael: What about Pamelaâ??s brother? Me: Canâ??t. Theyâ??re going to a Halloween festival in Arizona. Michael: Bummer. Well, sure wish you could come. Me: Me too. He gave my hand a squeeze, and went back to class before we could get into too much trouble. See how easy that was? What are boyfriends for? I could tell that night how unselfish Michael was. I mean, what I said did seem kind of like a spare-of-the-moment thing. I didnâ??t have much homework that night, but I did make things more sluggish than necessary. I kept pausing so I can bite on my fingernails. Dinner was no better. It was just me and Sandyâ??Beanie was knocked out cold. Seems like she was having a horrid headache. Sandy: Whatâ??s eating you? Me: (sigh) Itâ??s a very long story, Sand. I donâ??t even want to tell you to be perfectly honest. Sandy: Is it guy trouble? Me: It feels like itâ??s everything! Yâ??know, Iâ??m still getting used to having a guy. Everything is so confusing. At a time like this, I wonder why guys exist. Then I think, why arenâ??t they the precious ones? Sandy: Uh, because theyâ??re guys, Ambs. Really, what is it? Me: (I took a deep breath) Another guys likes me. I donâ??t know how to feel. Itâ??s like all this love and good fortunate is rushing towards me all at once. I canâ??t seem to catch my own breath. Sandy: Maybe you should take a break. Me: No! Not that. As stupid as it sounds, I really wanna see the softer side of Michael. Oh gosh, Iâ??m really comfused! Sandy: Itâ??s only natural. You guys are so quick to kiss than talk. Crazy hormones! Me: Then Iâ??m supposed to take Beanie trick-or-treating on the same night of this Halloween party. Sandy: You still can. I donâ??t know any parents who would have a Halloween party on a Thursday night. Me: Thursday? Sandy: Yeah. Halloween is Thursday this year. Me: No kidding! I said. She was right though, on our calendar, it said â??Octoberâ? and under that in a little square â??Halloweenâ? â??Thâ?. Boy was I siked! I was in my bed when the phone rang. Luckily, Sandy answered. Sandy: Itâ??s for you, Amber. After dragging my butt up, I answered. Me: Hello? Michael: Amber? Michael said in a quiet voice. Me: Yeah? Michael: I meant to tell you Priscillaâ??s party is on the 1st of November, though thatâ??s passing the real Halloween day. Me: Yeah, Sandy sort of hinted towards that earlier. Michael: So, will you be my Wilma, please. Me: Sure. Michael: And, I canâ??t wait to see you again. But Iâ??ll need to get off this phone. My sister is already asleep, and I canâ??t use the excuse that she was on the phone with you. Me: I canâ??t wait to see you either; but first, I need to rest up before I see you again. Michael: Goodnight my Wilma. Me: Iâ??ll see you, Fred. After I hang up, I took the phone off the receiver and kissed the mouth piece. Iâ??m glad Michael said something very gentle and sweet. Yeah, heâ??s my Fred Flintstone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yâ??know, I could never finish this part, but Iâ??m glad I did. Hoped you liked it. No, scratched that out. Hopefully you loved it! Aariyan.
